froch will make kessler pay. froch via brutal uppercut.
Re: Herning confirmed for Froch v Kessler
If you did write that, you may want to re-read the intro. ie The venue will be, not the venue will be held in.
And Billund is an hour's drive from, with no train link. It could have been at the Forum in Copenhagen, which holds 8,500. There's nothing on that night.
Strange he should have gone from saying he wouldn't fight there to being Herning's biggest fan. Must be his pocket talking.
This is a disaster for Froch's profile.

Re: Herning confirmed for Froch v Kessler
The Cobra will smash him, brutalize him, destroy him, annihilate him in under 6 rounds, smoke his boots, bombard him with his Frochy awesomeness, etc, etc.

Re: Herning confirmed for Froch v Kessler
I guess this isn't the place for Mortal Kombat references
Anyways, I think Kessler will win a close decision, but I wouldn't be surprised if Froch's roughhousing takes a bit out of him. Froch can come on late to win a decision, but he is going to have to keep the pressure on.
I used to be alot more confident that Kessler would batter him, but Kessler looked truely awful against Ward. Perhaps it was just the conflicting styles.

Re: Herning confirmed for Froch v Kessler
It'd be a bit mad if Kessler were to lose his first two fights of the tourney.

Re: Herning confirmed for Froch v Kessler
i think theres a risk or kessler being underestimated , which to me sounds odd , people are maybe getting carried away by his loss to ward , i want my fellow nottingham boy froch to smash him , but this is going to be tough , and also consider this , froch has hardly looked great other than one single round , in his last 2 outings .
It will be explosive , i unfortunately cannot go anymore due to work , or lack of it , which annoys me as my brother is going .
It will be close , could go either way .

He is been underestimated on here?If Khan/Hatton/Calzaghe were going into a fight against an opponent coming in off a one-sided beating(yes,i watched it),there would be threads starting all over the place. He has lost the two most important fights of his life and Froch should really hammer him if hes half as good as he thinks he is.damianhucker1 wrote:i think theres a risk or kessler being underestimated , which to me sounds odd , people are maybe getting carried away by his loss to ward , i want my fellow nottingham boy froch to smash him , but this is going to be tough , and also consider this , froch has hardly looked great other than one single round , in his last 2 outings .

He didn't mean in that way, I understood what he meant immediately but you only would if you played the aforementioned game.
Re: Herning confirmed for Froch v Kessler
Back in 1983, writer Steve Vender wrote, “The word on the street was that Roberto Duran was through, finished as a fighter, the greatness gone forever from the man who said ‘no mas’.” This introduced his report on Duran’s four-round pounding of Pipino Cuevas in front of 17,000 fans in Los Angeles (surely the last ‘real’ LA fight crowd to turn out in such numbers; forget the coke boys who roll up in their fancy cars to watch cheats such as Shane Mosley against Antonio Margarito).
The word on the street today is that Mikkel Kessler is also through, the man who once hilariously claimed he was more ‘British’ than Joe Calzaghe because of his English mother. Hmmm, I’m not so sure. I know he has an English mother - but a finished fighter? Yes, Calzaghe outscored him in 2007 and America’s Andre Ward dished out a nasty 11-round beating to him a few months ago in the States, picking apart and inevitably busting up the tough Dane, who stayed on his feet throughout. The first thing to go is certainly not Kessler’s chin. However, Ward is unbeaten, hungry, big and quick. With all those assets, he just may have dished out a similar beating to Carl Froch - who knows?
I do know one thing, the “Super Six” super-middleweight tournament in which Kessler, Froch, Ward, Allan Green, Arthur Abraham and Andre Dirrell all fight each other, seemingly a million times over a million years, is a joke which I continually fail to get, no matter how many times I hear the thing. It was a great unification series in the making, a ‘knockout’ series. Froch, the WBC champ, would take on Kessler, the WBA champ (now Ward’s belt), the winner then facing Canada’s classy Lucian Bute, the IBF kingpin, but southpaw Bute was not included because he is one non-American too many for American-TV paymasters, Showtime - a Canadian of Romanian ancestry - and to compound the situation, Robert Stieglitz, the WBO super-middleweight kingpin, is also European. Thus we have an inevitable influx of Americans in the event, some good, some not so good, and who knows what the whole point of this “Super Six” is? Perhaps someone can enlighten me. Boredom, personally, set in some time ago.
There are still good fights looming, such as this one, on April 17 in Herning in Denmark (where?), Dirrell against "King" Arthur in March in the States, the talented Ward against Green a month later, also in the States, but it all reminds me of the eight-man series to decide Muhammad Ali’s heavyweight successor in 1967 which wound up being won by – Ali’s sparring partner - and failed to include the best successor. One fighter, by the way, has already dropped out of the “Super Six” for his own safety. He took so many beatings, he had no option but to quit.
Kessler-Froch also looks potentially brutal. The straight-ahead Kessler is not particularly quick but neither is Froch and we can expect a thrilling set-to between men who love a scrap and lack nothing in durability, pride and power. Froch, the big, strong Nottingham revelation, is a year older than Kessler at 31 but fresher and arguably more adaptable. He has shown he can travel in this tournament, and find a way to win, whereas Kessler lost, of course. He has shown he can box a bit, too. Carl “The Cobra” has those long arms of his with which he whips in the jabs and counters.
Nevertheless, home advantage looks a ‘biggie’ for Kessler, “The Viking Warrior”, who will be desperate to make amends for the Ward pasting in November, to say the least. Despite the rumours of his wear-and-tear, Kessler, a pro since 1998, is too good to go down without a real fight, here, and Froch will undoubtedly make him fight, fight to the bitter end.
It will undoubtedly boil down to the judges. A split or a majority decision for Froch looks the likeliest of outcomes but a draw is not of the question in such a location. Now, that would really mess up the “Super Six” concept – LOVELY.

interesting Bennie. However I think Kessler will prove too good for Froch. Depends what the defeat has done to him mentally of course. But with potentially more cash left to make than he has so far made in his career, I can't see Kessler being anything less that fully up for it.
Which I think will be more than the slow starting Froch can cope with. Kessler inside 9.

The nearest airport you can fly to is Billund, from where it's a bus journey to Herning of an hour, or a 20 minute bus to another town called Vejle and a train from there.

Carl Froch could yet fight Mikkel Kessler in Copenhagen
Promoters Sauerland Events insist they have yet to decide where to stage Carl Froch's WBC super-middleweight defence against Mikkel Kessler on 17 April.
Froch claimed the bout had been set for the Danish city of Herning, but Sauerland later issued a statement saying a venue had not been decided on.
Froch's camp want the fight to take place in Kessler's home city of Copenhagen, the Danish capital.
The bout forms part of the second round of the Super Six Classic tournament.
"Team Sauerland and [Froch's promoters] Hennessy Sports are close to reaching a decision which will be formally announced in the nearest future," read a Sauerland statement.
Staging the fight in Copenhagen would make travelling easier for Froch's fans - Herning, with a population of 45,000, lies 150 miles to the west and does not have an international airport.
Froch will be making the third defence of the world title he claimed by beating Canadian Jean Pascal in December 2008.
However, it will not be the first time Froch has defended his title outside the United Kingdom.
Last April, Froch staged an extraordinary comeback to beat Jermain Taylor in Connecticut, before outpointing Andre Dirrell in Nottingham last October.
The Dirrell encounter was Froch's first fight in the Super Six super-middleweight tournament, masterminded by American television network Showtime.
Last November, Kessler was beaten by Andre Ward and in the process lost his WBA belt.
Just booked flights and hotel based on yesterdays info....... hoping it is Herning now!

Do the bus drivers speak good English that far from Copenhagen? I can see some people getting lost. It's about £400 for a taxi from Billund airport, isn't it?
