Could it be a cracker ???

Post by Foggy »

Edwin Valero this weekend takes on Antonio DeMarco in Mexico, this DeMarco kid has some good wins on his record by the looks of it, i think this one could be a potentially cracking fight (heres hoping so......not that any of us will catch it anyway :OhYes:).

DeMarco is actually slick as feck (when he wants to be) & is a solid puncher.

I'd say he's the most naturally talented fighter Valero's fought so far (which ain't hard as he's fought Vicente Mosquera & 24 utter stiffs) & I would have absolutely no problems backing the Mexican to win a one-sided late stoppage in this battle of southpaws were it not for Antonio's vulnerability. Every time someone gets him out of his smooth-boxing stride he has an alarmingly ruffled, falling-apart look -- like some kind of Hispanic Hilmer Kenty/Kendall Holt. He beat up former belt-holder Jose Alfaro so bad after ten rounds using a solid jab & slick counter-punching, dropping the Nicaraguan three times, but twice Alfaro got through with his heavier artillery & DeMarco was all at sea -- not hurt but just out of sorts, his technique fell apart & he got hit very flush by some big punches. He does not want that happening against the wild-swinging strongman (which is all he is really) Valero.

Despite this, I've checked around & DeMarco's never ever been on the deck as a pro, so maybe I'm just projecting based on the Valero hype machine you find on the innernetz ("he's unbeaten & teh gr8test evah!!!! No-one KTFO like Valero!!!! Pacman is a scaredy of the powah!!!", just go look at the Current Scene).

My head says Valero, my heart says DeMarco.

Ah, feck it -- if Valero was English he'd get no end of stick for avoiding decent fighters & fighting washed-up forty-something featherweights (actually he might not, he's not of Pakistani descent), so...

I can't wait for this fight either, should be a cracker. But I really think Valero's power is something else and it will take a special fighter to beat him. Valero is also deceptively fleet of foot. Demarco is a solid all round fighter, good boxing skills, good jab, good power and very tall for the weight. But I think Valero, having lost some of the early round will get to him at some point. Demarco has an awful lot of body to aim at. His best win was probably the stoppage of Kid Diamond aka Almazbek Raiymkulov but I think at that point Diamond's heart wasn't in the game any more.

I like Valero a lot but i've also been impressed by DeMarco after seeing his last 3 or 4 fights on Showtime. This to me is the first MUST SEE Boxing Fight of 2010 and could even end up as one of the FOTY as its sure to be exciting with lots of leather thrown and back and forth action.

I find it hard to pick a winner in this but i think Valero could just be too much to handle for DeMarco so will go with an 8th Rd TKO for him.

I dont rate Valero that highly he has poor finishing instincts, poor boxing ability but his power bails him out a lot. I reckon DeMarco can do it unless he gest blowing out early

DeMarco offers something different to Valeros last few opponents - he is a southpaw, he isn't 'old', he is in good form beating some decent fighters, he is a powerful puncher, he will have a height and reach advantage and as Datsue implied he is a nice, slick boxer. I think if he is able to use the ring and stay on the outside, use his jab and not get sucked into the Valero whirlpool he has a chance but it is a big if. Valero will get found out sooner or later and Demarco just might be the one to do it. One thing is for certain, I think one of them will hit the canvass at some stage of the fight.

I picked Demarco to win via close decision in the PTBF on the Current scene and stuck a few euros on him @ 3/1 to win.

DeMarco is a classy fighter and plenty of power. but despite valero not maybe having the silky skills he's a huge puncher and his power could have demarco in real trouble.

Both are good boxers, both like to fight. I think this is going to be very good. It's hard to pick a winner, but I'm rooting for Valero. He's like a wrecking ball.

makes no difference if you are an excellent exponent at the KO you can beat somebody more skillful. As he has shown!

Valero is skilled. It's ridiculous to say otherwise.

It's a hard fight to pick. I'm surprised the bookies have it so widely in Valero's favour. The fight's in DeMarco's home country, as well!

DG,

Valero just beat DeMarco very easily. Totally outboxed him. He showed a lot of skill.

De Marco was out of his depth last night, in terms of both skill and power. He took a brutal dismantling.

27 straight stoppages is mighty impressive and the fights of the last 3 years have not been against total mugs either. Valero could well be the real deal.

Eric Morales raved about Valero quite some years ago ... Barrera long claimed Valero was the best in the division ... two very good opinions the way I see it ;;-)

Shame, Valero seems to burn bridges whenever he goes to the USA :witzend:
