'Patsy' Pasquale Pesca vs Walker Smith jr.

Post by jmc617 »

Here are press clippings from the golden gloves result summary from the Thursday February 17th, 1938 edition of the New York Daily News reporting that 'Patsy' Pasquale Pesca had defeated Walker Smith jr. (w3) during the 3rd prelim round of a bout in the 118-lb *special* sub-novice division. The special sub novice divisions were for fighters aged 16-18. Walker won a 3 round decision in the previous prelim round over Bobby Ruffin. It looks like the paper misprinted Walker's first name and listed it as Walter from Salem-Crescent. In the edition on February 4th they had the spelling correct as Walker.

Don't confuse the subject of the article Wee Willie Smith with Walker though although they fought out of the same gym Willie fought that year as a 1926 open classer.
