dberry, clearly you cant read properly the Kirby fight was offered but as Chauncy has stated and im stating AGAIN the dates dont work Chauncy is sparring in Germany and earning well doing so!

In regards to the titles, yea i agree the sanctioning bodies are ripping us off really, but you win one of these titles especially one of the big four eg WBO Asia-Pacific and you earn Top 15 world rankings, these rankings then put you in a position to earn bigger and better paying fights, so while i do think they are not EVERYTHING they do serve a purpose!

In regards to the money, no ones asking for millions just a fair pay rate. Let me ask you would you go to work for less than you are already earning elsewhere? Why should Chauncy bust his ass to break camp in Germany where hes earning well to come down here and fight Kirby for less than he makes in a week in camp? I believe the fight will happen like I mentioned in a previous post, boxing is all about timing, Tua Vs Cameron took 4 years to come together but they got it on eventually.

If Kirby pulls some nice wins together and carrys that momentum on we could potentially have a much bigger bout than we would have if they fought right now............the fires are burning though and thats a good thing!

See thats what bothers me and probably others, neither are Tua or Cameron, neither probably will be, and i guess it's best that you understand that now, then coming off quite silly 4 years down the track.

Kirby is a tested heavyweight with a small following who gives his fans what they paid for, blood and guts, He needs to avenge the Solo and Leapai loss's before anything really big happens here. Chauncey is a international who entertains the crowd with showmanship, while not exciting, still gives his all, but has a tiny following in NZ, Chauncy needs a fight against a couple of credible opponents before he should even consider demands to fight in his own home town or terms.

Chauncy just got 5 wins in 40 days man! That a 45 win per year pace mate!

Against two debutants, A boxer with 6 wins out of 12 starts, another with 1 win out of 14 starts and a cruiser weight with 12 wins out of 24 four starts.

Chauncy Welliver is a heavy weight with a 40-5-5 record, whilest I'm no boxing geek, I try to keep up with whats going on. I have a healthy interest, you might say, yet I had never heard of Mr. Welliver untill I read his thread on this forum!

He is telling Micheal Kirby to get a few more wins under his belt before challenging him yet in his last five fights he has fought two debutants and a guy who has only had one win in 14 fights! Disrespectful to say the least.

Then he has the utter disrespect to call out a man who has had to cancell fights because he is SERIOUSLY INJURED.

Surely, enough is enough.

That is still incredible activity and he revenged a draw. The Wellivers duck nobody! Chauncy's brother Dumont has been in there with plenty of world class guys.

Chauncy himself has fought Solis! He's been after Meehan for a couple years. He makes his money being a sparring partner for some of the best camps in the world. He's been in the ring with most of the best HW's in the world at 1 time or another.

Chauncy is a smart fighter. He's been around the sport his whole life. His record being so good is a testament to his understanding of the risks and rewards in the sport. He'll fight anybody for the right price but he's not going to fight dangerous guys for chump change. He gets paid more to spar the top guys than he does to fight lower profile matches. Good HW's who have some skills but also have crap records should be in awe of Chauncy Welliver.....he's done it his way just like Frank Sinatra.

Chauncy is also still a young man for the HW division. But he will soon have 50 wins! He's hanging around the World Title shot picture now. He's already showed enough to the world that his chin is considered about on par with Oliver McCall's. He's never been on the canvas yet!

Welliver vs Kirby would be great but at what cost? Chauncy has a legitimate big money future in HW boxing. As long as he keeps winning, big time HW's will be trying to land him as an opponent. I could see Boytsov or some of the other HW's they are trying to move in Germany calling up and offering serious cash for a fight. Perhaps Tua or Cameron or Meehan will give him the huge shot he's been looking for down that way?

Chauncys got a lot to lose and Kirby has a lot to gain if they fight. There should be some decent money in it for Welliver. Fighting a guy without a good record who is not rated for his title in a match that pays less that what he gets for sparring is just not good boxing business. Chauncy's future is too bright to take a gamble on fighting a guy for peanuts.

Im done with debating it, if Kirby REALLY wants this fight then he can get in touch with me I'll make him an offer to come fight Welliver in May for a Title (If he'll be accepted by the sanctioning body) or at least a 10 rounder. It'll be in NZ, but enough kiwis go to oz as cannon fodder so I'll take it as Kirby NOt wanting the fight is he refuses to travel here! Balls now in Kirbys court I know he reads these forums so you have 2 weeks to get in touch. Look forward to hearing from you Kirby and we can settle this in the ring! I'll seriously look into a internet PPV so you Ozzies can catch it also!

The crowd at the ABA last Sunday was the best i have seen.From my understanding the promoters are pretty keen to have fights over here in Auckland once a mth as to hard to get into the OZ market..

Not hard as such to get into the oz market just VERY hard competing for TV dates a s a new promoter so perhaps if they do some shows in NZ show the networks they can promote and successfully they can start landing TV dates, Maori TV have picked them up here i believe?

Problem in NZ is the same as around the world, in a country our size with the sport of boxing only being small time we need ONE professional commission not the 3/4 that are running around so that we can have ONE clear NZ Champion, we need boxing back on TV but to many times in the past the networks have been burnt with poor matching and poor promotions so they handle boxing with a 6ft pole ubnless its Tua or Cameron as rogue pointed out.

Betham VS Bartlett was a prime example of why TV ran a mile!!

Nz Boing needs a couple of guys to really stand out and take the role of the next Tua or Cameron!!
