This place is in the middle of nowhere, Frankie (even Ray would not find it, a pillaging Viking). Trains take four hours from Copenhagen airport. The nearest airport you can fly to is Billund, from where it's a bus journey to Herning of an hour, or a 20-minute bus ride to another town called Vejle and a train from there.
Portland, Maine, all over again.

Yeah,I'll have my tequila at my side. My sisters will have the sausage and peppers waiting. Their flat screen reaches to the end of the block.At the half,me and Pete the Cop will go out to the patio and smoke a good cigar.

Last month, I found some DVDs of "Rumpole of the Bailey" at Costco. Bennie probably remembers it; it was a BBC show about an old Barrister that was broadscast back in the 1970s and 80s. They used to show it on PBS here in the States, and, being that series is about the antics of a lawyer, I used to enjoy watching it.

Anyway, throughout the show, Rumpole calls his wife "She Who Must Be Obeyed." Last week, Linda was watching one of the shows with me and heard Rumpole make reference to his wife. She turned to me, smiled, and said, "Ohhh . . . I like that!"

The next day, I got an interoffice e-mail from her signed "She Who Must Be Obeyed (SWMBO)." Now all her interoffice e-mails are signed "SWMBO."

Hammer, Cuevas did have a big punch and he did destroy some fighters but the guys that did beat him: Andy Price, Tommy Hearns, Roberto Duran, etc, could all box. Hearns ruined his career alright but not so much by destroying him but by exposing him. Cuevas was a one dimensional fighter. I think if he and Carlos Palomino would have fought, Palomino would have beat him, maybe stopped him. This is not a knock on Cuevas the man. He went as far as his punch could take him. A punch by itself can only do so much. Just my opinion.

You are right about a punch only taking you so far so often with fighters with a big punch they sacrifice defense and many times have stamina problems probably because they think the punch will bail them out and don't always train hard

Great portrait Rog.
One of my bests friends father played 13 years for Lombardi back in the Packer glory years.
Bob Skoronski is his name. He was the starting offensive tackle. He is in the Packer Hall Of Fame.
Funny story, he and his son, my friend, are avid outdoorsmen. Hunting ,fishing, the whole bit.
One time they took me duck hunting on the Illinois river.It was colder than hell outside.We sat in the duck blind and Im freezing my ass off.I started thinking that since no ducks were flying over because of the temp,maybe we would knock off a little early.
Go have a drink,shoot a game of pool, something.
Then, I realized I was sitting next to the starting tackle in the FREAKIN ICE BOWL. The game in Green Bay at Lambeau field in 67
in which it was about 100 below zero.
6 hours later we called it a day. I never fired a shot.

Ditto! Cuevas had heavy hands but as Frank said, just a wild swinger. Duran not only ruined his comeback at junior middleweight, but broke his spirit long before he hit the canvas. I recall when the ref stopped the fight, Cuevas shook his head "No", as if in protest. You can bet that Pipino was never happier to have a match end. I'm not sure his chin was all that solid, either. I was hoping that he and Carlos Palomino would be matched, however, they never were. Like Randy, I believe Carlos would have beaten him. Both were losers to Andy Price early in their careers.

Thanks Brian on the complement on Vince. Skoronski was one of the last of Lombardi's players to see him in the hospital. He was down to 120 pounds. Vince didn't want people to see him that way.

I remember when Pipino Cuevas emerged in the spotlight.He was just what the "aficianados" were looking for. A guy to step in to take Jose Napoles's place. A big puncher. A poker face ,quiet guy. Cuevas once got into an automobile accident(so they say) and his head hit the windshield going 50 miles per hour. He supposedly walked away from it unhurt. The Mexican fans thought he was indestructible. They wrote a song about him called"Pipino Es Mi Campeon." I had friend who lived across the border who asked me if he thought Cuevas could beat Ali.

The Hearns fight broke him. When someone who is perceived as being indestructible gets destroyed like that,it has an effect. Cuevas could have redeemed himself against Duran,but was destroyed again. I saw him fight his last fight in Tijuana against Lupe Aquino. By that time Pipino was doing his training in the cantinas. Lupe destroyed him in the 2nd round.
