GBP asking Judah to fight Maidana

Post by whiskey »

Looks like Judah's being contacted by GBP about fighting Maidana.

Does anyone get the feeling they want to match Maidana as absolutely tough as they can to get him out of the picture?

Surely they want to 'build the fight' - why not get some guy to step up 2 or 3 divisions and fight him? (goose/gander)

Moments ago former two division champion Zab Judah confirmed to Boxingtalk that Golden Boy Promotions recently reached out to his camp attempting to negotiate a Marcos Maidana fight. "Yeah, they reached out to my pops, but the numbers they were talking, it's like they were speaking Chinese to us," said Judah. "It's like I told you yesterday, if they ain't coming with Oscar, they need to keep my name out of their mouth."

________________

Former two-division champion Zab "Super" Judah was incensed at Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer for mentioning him as a potential opponent for Amir Khan. Zab's response: "Oscar's mouthpiece, who really runs Golden Boy Promotions, needs to learn how to come on the record."

"First of all if I were [Juan Manuel] Marquez I would be flipping because how are you going to say [what will happen] once [Khan] wins? They just signed Khan, Marquez been with them. Reading what he says, it makes it seem like Golden Boy is feeding Marquez to Khan."

"Second, who is he to mention my name? I'm not a Golden Boy fighter and I don't want to be. They can't promote black fighters, and that's just going by what I see and the stuff that comes out of Bernard Hopkins, Shane Mosley and Winky Wright's mouths.

"Don't mention my name for your cheeseburger, give me your Big Mac, bring Oscar De La Hoya out of retirement to fight me and after I beat him, maybe then I'll be involved, with my promotions," concluded Judah.

Im maybe alone in thinking judah is still a very dangerous fight for anyone at 140lb.

He is still fast and can whack.

I've always thought it'd be easier for him to show his composure against a top fighter when they aren't outweighing him by over a stone (Clottey, Cotto, Spinks et cetera). His whole welterweight career was a teeny bit misjudged, if you ask me: "We've got a temperamental, incredibly talented short boy with a dodgy chin. I know, let's throw him in with a succession of big nasty bastards, & see if he melts down..."

If Zabdiel's head is right, I think he stands Maidana on his head & probably stops him. As long as he doesn't get caught, of course.

Interesting.... Schaefer was quoted a week ago saying he would like Judah next for Khan (after Khan's May fight) then a possible showdown with Mayweather. It all sounded very far fetched to me, but now upon reading GBP are trying to match Judah with Maidana (Judah being the likely winner IMO) it appears Schaefer was serious with his comments.

What could be Golden Boy's agenda, are they anticipating Khan can do a better job on Marquez and Judah than Mayweather did, therefor helping to set up a showdown with Mayweather for 2011?

Personally, i think even an on the slide Judah would stand a good chance of blowing Khan away. Zab is greased lighting and he may only need to get through once to topple king Khan!

Totally agree 100%. Judah will be superb if he can make 140lbs. He did a damned site better against mayweather than Ricky did, and held his own with cotto until about the 6th when miguels size and punching power began to really tell. Dont underestimate zab at 140.

just read this..
Madaina-Cayo March 27th

WBA interim super light weight champion Marcos Madaina (27-1, 26 KOs) will defend his title against challenger Victor Cayo (24-0, 16 KOs). Looks like the bout will take place in San Francisco on March 27th.
looks like Judah and Khan are def off the radar.

Second one was quite exciting actually. Judah nearly took Spinks' head off with a left cross & KTFO'd him. I'd pay good money to see someone else do that to Spinks, but neither Karmazin nor Pettway nor Jermaine Taylor have come anywhere near close, so Judah's always going to have a little place in my heart.

Judah needs to stop pricing himself out of the market and beat someone of note to put himself in a better bargaining position. He hasn't beaten anyone of note for almost five years. Sad thing is he could beat a lot of the top lightwelterweights but his ego will prevent him from taking fights with them.
