granberry doesn't know the difference between a ranking and a head to head fight.

Is Quarry also better than Ray Robinson since he would probably beat him?

You never mentioned who would beat Quarry. You said Spinks never faced anyone as good as Quarry. You also never said solely lightheavy's. I'd have to say Qawi was better,Johnson was better and Muhammad was better.

I would pick Gerry Cooney to beat Quarry as well as any old unmotivated version of Larry Holmes.

Discussion ended. The above comments are plain ignorant. Marvin Johnson better than Jerry Quarry? WTF? Muhammad couldn't even beat Renaldo Snipes let alone a peak Quarry,
Discussion ended Marvin Johnson is easily a top 20 lightheavy.

Is Quarry a top 20 heavyweight? NO!

Show me where I said Muhammad could beat Quarry.

But the whole point of it is head to head. The argument that I made was that a prime Quarry would have been Spinks' toughest opponent aside from Tyson. It does not matter that Muhammad had a better career, he was a weight class below Quarry and I hope you are not suggesting that the 175lbs Muhammad would beat the 200lbs Quarry?

By your logic Ricardo Lopez would kick Spinks' ass as Lopez clearly had the better career.

Well what you said and what you meant are two different things.

You said Spinks never fought anyone as good as Quarry.

Spinks' performances at HW were excellent FOR A LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT who added a bit of extra bulk.

Spinks was a great fighter at 175. But at HW he was not a major force.

Quarry is farr too proven a HW for me to even consider picking Spinks.

I said Spinks never fought anyone as good as Quarry aside from Tyson. Only you took it to mean that Quarry had the better career than anyone Spinks ever fought. Given the context I tought it was obvious that we were talking about head to head matchups but I'll spoonfeed it to you one last time:

Aside from Tyson I would favor no opponent Spinks ever fought (when they fought) to beat a prime Quarry.
This means that I do NOT think the 1981 versions of Muhammad and Johnson or the 1983 version of Qawi or the 85/86 version of Holmes or the 1987 version of Cooney would beat the 1967-69 version of Quarry. Is that clear enough for you?

So the fact that Cooney was coming off a long lay off and rehab for cocaine doesn't factor in at all in his performance against Spinks?

Does the fact Cooney was coming off a "rehab for cocaine"

say anything about what level Cooney was as a "boxer"?

The peaking Quarry that owned Lyle and Shavers in '73 would take Mike's heart out.

The Michael Spinks who fought Larry Holmes was too fast and skillful for Quarry... He was also bigger and taller than Quarry.. It's the jab and the movement -- and the defense and the combination punching that would overwhelm Quarry.. Quarry stood off you so it gave Jimmy Ellis a chance to box him silly.. Ellis fought most of his career fights as a Middleweight -- Just like Spinks fought most of his career fights as a LIght Heavyweight.

Comparing Quarry to Tyson is like comparing Floyd Patterson to Sonny Liston.. It doesn't work..

Quarry was a 195-pound counter-puncher.. Iron Mike was a 218-pound attacker.

It's a fantasy fight dumb dumb... Which is the reason you're so confident... Quarry lost to Norton, Chuvalo, Ellis, and Machen none of whom were on Spinks' level as a Heavyweight Boxer in the 5 fights he had there, particularly the man who fought Holmes.. Holmes beat Ray Mercer when he was 42.
