Kevin Mitchell Moving to light-welter?
Kevin Mitchell Moving to light-welter?
In the newspaper today it says that after his next fight he will move up so he can eat more. The quote his as saying "i don't want to finish off his career" when asked about a fight with ricky hatton.
yesterday he insists he's stepped out of khans shadow
i agree with teh shadow part people know who he is now after beating prescott but i think a move to light welter is wrong for him

Well I hope it was misquoted and meant his move from Super Feather to Lightweight.

He should stay at Lightweight he looked good in his fight and would keep his power and stregth. Valero v Mitchell would be good or maybe he could get a fight with Katsidis with Guerrero pulling out
Re: Kevin Mitchell Moving to light-welter?
both would be very good fights alexalexpaterson wrote:He should stay at Lightweight he looked good in his fight and would keep his power and stregth. Valero v Mitchell would be good or maybe he could get a fight with Katsidis with Guerrero pulling out
Re: Kevin Mitchell Moving to light-welter?
i hope he doesn't move to 140, lose to lenny daws and then demand to headline the big shows!
mitchell has just earned a world title shot. sureley 135 is the best bet. then again, the win over prescott possibly opens things up. maybe he will be trying to get akhan fight. he has a win over the man who destroyed khan. in this way, it makes him the rendall munroe to khan's bernard dunne. khan being the bigger name who can pick 'em in america, it seems. it does give things an interesting angle, but mitchell would need it more than khan. i'd like to see it.

Mitchell does not want to do a "Froch" and be obsessed trying to get one particular fighter in the ring. He should spend a fair bit of time at LW as he should have a number of opportunities there. He's just made one move up in weight and that should be it for now.

Lightweight is a good division for Kevin Mitchell, should stay there rather than move up. Plus if Murray wins the Euro and proves himself a cracking all British affair looks ominent
Re: Kevin Mitchell Moving to light-welter?
i hope he does stay at lightweight where he can be a force

Re: Kevin Mitchell Moving to light-welter?
Only problem is Lightweight is one of the toughest divisions in boxing. Marquez, Diaz and Diaz, Valero, Soto, Guzman, Funeka, Katsidis, Moses, Acosta, Demarco.....no easy way to a title thats for sure. All these guys can bang. No wonder Khan moved up. Everyone seems to be gunning for a fight with Katsidis but I tell you what that's no easy fight. What he lacks in skill he makes up for in aggression, heart and toughness. He beats Mitchell at this stage for my money. In his last fight against Escobedo, he was hit with big left hooks time and again but just walked through it and his pressure and workrate was too much for Escobedo. One look at Katsidis's face after the fight shows how tough he is - his face looked like he had an apple stuffed in his right cheek.
I feel Mitchell needs a couple more real tough tests to prepare him for the pressure and workrate Katsidis brings - after which I'd give him a much better chance at beating him. Perhaps a fight with a faded Jesus Chavez or David Diaz(after he gets beat by Soto). I can see why he'd want to move up to lightwelterweight - there's some good guys at the top but IMO its nowhere near as tough as the lightweight division. For one, I think the division no.1 Tim Bradley is good but a tad overrated and hardley unbeatable. But Mitchell would be at a serious size disadvantage at lightwelterweight and his decent power at superfeatherweight would have less effect on guys at 10st.
