Calzaghe vs Warren

Post by twenty six »

So we're back to the Courts for round 2 of the interesting catch weight contest between Calzaghe and Warren later this year.
Calzaghe alleges that Wazza deliberately ran down his Company and sent it into adminstration to avoid paying Calzaghe the £1.8 mill judgment for monies owed following his fight with Hopkins.
It's gonna be intriguing - it should be a PPV event.
The fascinating thing is that the facts presented will become available no doubt in transcripts.
Wazza can ill afford another digit in the loss column so this is a major battle for him.
Game on !

Well that's the problem, Macho.
What if Company Law has been broken ?
Do you seriously think Mr Calzaghe's Barrister would advocate going ahead, in an arena where costs often become the greatest factor, if there weren't issues about the winding up of the business ?
Let me stress I am in no way making any presumptions about this but as a casual observer on the outside this is going to be an intriguing case - with repercussions for British Boxing once the outcome is known.

.... and line the pockets of the legal teams.
Watch out for a behind the scenes deal with a gagging order on both sides.

Even Barrister's have a heart sometimes !
They rarely back a 33/1 shot just for the costs.

He still hasn't received his money from the Hopkins fight that a court has already ordered Fwank to pay him.

This is the same Fwank who people have been saying got screwed by Khan. :witzend:

I wonder how long this thread will stay open.

The thing is, Calzaghe should have been paid at the time. We're not talking about some signing-on fee or bonus, it's an agreed purse for a fight.

Can someone explain how when Sports Network, seemingly run by Warren, went out of business he can just continue running allegedly promotions.
Surely you can't run two companies, offset all the debt onto one until it goes into administration and then just continue with the other?

Could he do that and keep hold of the contracts of his existing stable? I think if SN went into liquidation then the contracts of all his figthers become null and void.

The picture of Big boys sad face in the news of the world when Khan pissed off to America nearly had me in tears - it was a very sad and moving interview by fwank. :(

Edit: Its (Sports Network) already gone out of business? :oo Bloody hell!

Exactly, there were loads of people after Khan left saying "how can he do that to frank, he's loved him like a son yadda yadda yadda."

It's classless acts like his bashing of fighters not contracted to him and sending his company in to administration to avoid paying Joe C what he's owed that make it impossible to feel sorry for him.

Didn't Sports Network closing down also have something to do with Frank looking for an easy way out of his Setanta contract when they signed David Haye and Hayemaker? He signed most of his fighters to this new 'allegedly Promotions', signs a new deal with sky, sticks Khan on Box Office and the contract with Setanta is worth nothing. That should answer your bit, carlos from the post above.

I think Matthew Macklin was one who didn't sign with allegedly Promotions, meaning it was easy for him to join Hatton. Not 100% on that, but I believe thats what happened.

But even Ray Charles could see Frank shut his company down so Joe C didn't get paid.

(I await a threatening message from Warren's lackeys now :TU: )

Business law is not there to prevent companies improperly avoiding their debts. I doubt you'd be so blase if it was your last year's salary that somebody was refusing to pay whilst continuing to drive around in a Bentley taking the piss.

And Calzaghe is an angel in this too ?

Didn't Frank shaft Calzaghe for doing a bunk to fight a shot to shit Jones, instead of fighting Pavlik in front of 50,000 in Cardiff ?

As if you'd do the dirty on Warren whilst he still has your £1.8m in his pocket.... and then give 50% of the promotion to Jones, a man with zero clout anymore.

He must have REALLY not wanted to fight the unbeaten Pavlik.

On the contrary, he really wanted to leave Warren. He signed on for one more fight to guarantee the Kessler fight happening, he did his one fight and walked.

There was never any agreement for a Pavlik fight in Cardiff - just newspaper talk from Arum and Warren.

He got a $5million guarantee for the Jones fight, though.

You really do have big issues with Calzaghe don`t you

Just imagine it was your beloved Froch who was in Calzaghes position ...

It makes no difference who the boxer is .. but that guy stepped into the ring risking his own life. Can you imagine fWank being able to pull a similar con-job if the unspeakable happened as in the Michael Watson or Gerald McClellan fights??

The BBB of C are almost as bad as fWank in all this. I shall reserve judgment with the new editor of BN ... but the old editor was a disgrace by also ignoring the disgusting actions of fWank :(
