Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
I may be slow on the uptake here so sorry in advance if this has been done here already, but i've just now come onto this information that Mayweather uses, or at least was using, Xylocaine, which is used in the medical proffession as a pain killer, and is a banned PED in 49 of the 50 states in America. No surprises as to which one its legal in, Nevada of course!
Is this the reason Mayweather does not wish to fight anywhere other than in Nevada. Is it the real reason he did not wish the proposed fight with Pacquiao to be in the state of Texas?
I'm no medical buff, but this Xylocaine clearly has its advantages. If it numbs the pain in a boxers hands, then its clearly giving an added edge. Its banned in 49 states, and for good reason i think. Its all fair and well feeling sorry for Mayweather because of the hand troubles he has, i believe he is being 100% genuine with his claim and it really is a shame, but many many fighters have hand troubles, it comes with the territory, but they dont all go getting injections of Xylocaine before their fights to numb the pain.
How can this guy stand up and call out Pacquiao as a PED user when he's using a PED thats banned in 49 of 50 American states?

I believe it was this article in the Examiner that broke this news:

Not being funny Ali, but christ this is boring now.
Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
In the state of Nevada he is, so legally he is doing nothing wrong. But its a banned PED in every other state and its obvious why. It numbs the hands giving a him a clear and obvious advantage.MachoMan09 wrote:Interesting. If the drug is prescribed, however, is he not permitted to use it?
Perhaps this Xylocaine can be used effictively elsewhere in the body, the arms, legs, i really dont know. I'm sure most fighters would'nt mind having their noses all numbed up before the first bell rings
Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
I doubt your right, but stand to be corrected.MachoMan09 wrote:ALI wrote:In the state of Nevada he is, so legally he is doing nothing wrong. If a doctor has prescribed the drug to treat a medical condition; I would imagine he could take it and still box in any State he chose. Non-prescribed is a different kettle of fish.
Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
Interesting, can anyone chip in on this?MachoMan09 wrote:I would also advise you to check your source's credibility. I am checking this out as we speak and I don't think Xylocaine is an illegal PED anywhere. Bear with me.
Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
Thats very interesting, because WADA is the very organisation that team Maweather were insisting carried out the drug testing for the Pacquiao fight. Very interesting indeed!MachoMan09 wrote:I have just checked my WADA list. Xylocaine is not a banned substance.
Obviously they had their reasons.
Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
I'm not questioning WADA you fool, i'm questioning the reason Mayweather insisted the tests be carried out by WADA. Under WADA rules Xylocaine is legal, i'm thinking it may be banned under other organisations rules. Is that at all possible?MachoMan09 wrote:Why the cynicism? WADA is the World Anti Doping Agency. The organisation is responsible for Olympic testing for Christ's sake. It is not some nickel and dime organisation the Mayweathers have set-up in their garage! If my respect didnt already go for Floyd after coming in at 146 lbs against Marquez then it has now...total hyprocrite and before anyone says Xylocaine aint a PED...if someone started using the equivalent for their chins(ok far fetched) there would be an outcry!
Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
xylocaine (other names lignocaine or lidocaine) is a local anaesthetic, it does have uses intravenously to combat cardiac arrythmias but in normal medical terms it is the local anaesthetic that you would use to remove a mole, or the dentist might use to remove a tooth.
it is short acting (perhaps 90 mins tops) .... bupivicaine (marcain) lasts maybe 4 times longer and is the type of solution a cricketer might have into a broken finger to allow hom to go out to bat.
xylocaines only potential use in boxing would be to act as a local anaesthetic nerve block (finger/wrist) to allow a fighter to fight with an injury. trouble is the injury would/could get worse without the fighter knowing it was getting worse.
to mask pain is its only positive in boxing, it is certainly no kind of stimulant.

Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
I'm aware of Mayweather's history as much as the next man. His last five fights spanning over the last 5 years have all been in Nevada. That may mean nothing as to be fair, they were all marquee fights, but it could be that he likes to fight in Nevada these days so he can use Xylocaine. Given that its 'reportedly' banned in all other states across the country, is that such an irritional thought?mosley20101 wrote:Where did Floyd fight Shamba Mitchell? Henry bruseles? Arthuro Gatti? I'm struggling to find reliable information on wether Xylocaine is actually banned in any state in America. Can anyone get any concrete information on this?

Add to that a fighter can use it up to 7 days BEFORE THE FIGHT and not during..
PBF is not a cheat.
Rhino and DG have spoken.

There was another thread on this on the CS not so long ago. I wish there was a 'yawn' emoticon.

I've read that on several different sites, i've also read its a new rule not long since being introduced.DG. wrote:Add to that a fighter can use it up to 7 days BEFORE THE FIGHT and not during..
Given this information is correct, the NSAC would be treating Xylocaine as a PED if injected seven days or earlier before a fight, would'nt you say?

No, its like liquids, you can use 'gatorade' for recovery, but not during the fight.
You cab never use HGH/Steroids before or after.....Thats illegal
Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
If it is legal under WADA rules, does that mean it cannot therefor be banned under any other anti-doping agency, or by any state of America?

Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
go on many sports medical websites and they will all say that same. xylocaine is not a ped. it is a numbing agent used by alot of injury-prone sportsman across the world. it is banned in ZERO STATES. it is completely legal. all these floyd haters are just trying to clutch at strawsALI wrote:I'm aware of Mayweather's history as much as the next man. Re: Floyd Mayweather & Xylocaine
The above quote is from Pac Man's trainer, Mr. Freddie Roach
Floyd began using xylocaine in 1999, it was and is still completely legal. The Jim Lampley quote on the HBO pre show everyone likes to reference about Floyd using it before fights was from 2002. Xylocaine was (and still is) a completely legal painkiller (not a PED), and was not restricted at all by NSAC until 2004 (2 years after the Lampley quote), when they instituted the 7 day before the fight window when it could not be taken. Floyd has since never used it inside the 7 day window. These are facts, and easily verifiable. Xylocaine is found in many over the counter medications. The fact that some yahoo put something on youtube saying it was banned doesn't make it true. There is not 1 state that bans Xylocaine. It's a numbing agent and painkiller. The argument that Floyd illegally uses this painkiller has been refuted by every news agency and boxing commission out there. The rumors of it being illegal was the result of many Pacquio fans flooding blogs and forums with this false info.
The following was cut and pasted from the Houston Boxing Examiner:
Xylocaine, also known as Lidocaine, was not listed by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) as one of the prohibited narcotics that cannot be used in-competition. The banned pain killer substances listed by USADA inclue Buprenorphine, Dextromoramide, Diamorphine, Fentanyl and derivatives, Hydromorphone, Methadone, Morphine, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Pentazocine, and Pethidine.
Additionally, Xylocaine was not listed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) as a prohibited drug. Prohibited substances identified by NSAC include Alcohol, Stimulant, Afrinol or related product, Co-Tylenol or related product, a product containing an antihistamine and a decongestant, certain Decongestants, drugs including Ephedrine, Phenylpropanolamine, and Mahuang and derivatives of Mahuang, and drugs prohibited by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Neither Xylocaine nor Lidocaine were found on the 2009 and 2010 Prohibited List supplied by WADA.
