It has been reported on many different websites, rightly or wrongly, that it is banned in most states across America. Do you have anything other than your word, showing that this is not the case?

When i read this information on various sites earlier tonight i took it for granted the information was factual. Now i'm not sure either way. The fact that it is not on WADA's list of banned substances raises serious questions, but then i'm not sure if it could still be a banned substance on other anti-doping agencies lists, or wether American state athletic commissions could still be able to ban it if they wanted to.

I've read that on several different sites, i've also read its a new rule not long since being introduced.

Given this information is correct, the NSAC would be treating Xylocaine as a PED if injected seven days or earlier before a fight, would'nt you say?

No, its like liquids, you can use 'gatorade' for recovery, but not during the fight.

I'm aware of Mayweather's history as much as the next man. His last five fights spanning over the last 5 years have all been in Nevada. That may mean nothing as to be fair, they were all marquee fights, but it could be that he likes to fight in Nevada these days so he can use Xylocaine. Given that its 'reportedly' banned in all other states across the country, is that such an irritional thought?

I'm struggling to find reliable information on wether Xylocaine is actually banned in any state in America. Can anyone get any concrete information on this?

Yes it must be to get away with Xylocaine use, nothing to do with the $20million fight venue revenues Vegas pays

Dont shoot the messanger. Given i come across this information just yesterday, and that it was reported on various different sites (not forums) i took it to be factual that it is banned in 49 out of 50 states and that he is using it before his fights. Why would'nt i have? If you re-read my posts, i was looking to open a discussion on the matter to delve deeper into the details and see what could be found out. I'm glad i did as i have can now see it all seems to be a bit far fetched and based on very little, or no factual information.

This is just another indicator that Mayweather didn't fancy it. It's no loaded gun, but it just removes a little doubt as to whether Floyd actually gave a shit about drug use in the sport.

What I've read on this thread is this: Mayweather may be using a drug that is not banned in the state where he has been fighting and is not banned by an organization that has no authority over boxing anyway.

usung lignocaine 7 days before a fight would be no use whatso-ever... as its half life is only a few hours !!

its only use in pre-fight days would be to have it injected to mask an injury so a fighter could spar etc !!

its about as illegal as a couple of paracetamol tablets to combat a headache leading up to a fight !!! .. why do cricketers have it injected to allow them to bat? footballers have it injected with it to mask ankle ligament injuries to allow them to play in cup finals !!

In the state of Nevada he is, so legally he is doing nothing wrong. But its a banned PED in every other state and its obvious why. It numbs the hands giving a him a clear and obvious advantage.

Perhaps this Xylocaine can be used effictively elsewhere in the body, the arms, legs, i really dont know. I'm sure most fighters would'nt mind having their noses all numbed up before the first bell rings

but if roach keeps going on about nevada being a great commision and having sufficient tests this shudnt be a problem for roach or half of the boxing public they were quick enough to defend pacquaio saying the nevada tests were enopugh so i dont see why mayweather and Xylocaine should even be discussed

xylocaine (other names lignocaine or lidocaine) is a local anaesthetic, it does have uses intravenously to combat cardiac arrythmias but in normal medical terms it is the local anaesthetic that you would use to remove a mole, or the dentist might use to remove a tooth.

it is short acting (perhaps 90 mins tops) .... bupivicaine (marcain) lasts maybe 4 times longer and is the type of solution a cricketer might have into a broken finger to allow hom to go out to bat.

xylocaines only potential use in boxing would be to act as a local anaesthetic nerve block (finger/wrist) to allow a fighter to fight with an injury. trouble is the injury would/could get worse without the fighter knowing it was getting worse.

to mask pain is its only positive in boxing, it is certainly no kind of stimulant.

Probably the reason for it being banned in many of the athletic commissions is precisely because it would allow a fighter to continue to fight despite severe injuries to the hands.

I think this is a storm in a tea cup personally, it's clear mayweather has ban hands and uses this substance to mask the pain, what is the big deal. Without it, it is quite possible he would not be able to fight at all.

In short, Hatton's camp were doing all they could to ensure Mayweather would not be getting these numbing injections pre-fight. It proves there were firm objections to his use of this in the past.

Thats an interesting anology, but i dont think its quite that simple. For a start, would a runner numbing part of their leg not actually hinder them? I'm not sure, but if not and said runner wanted to inject lidocaine into their ankle before a race, he/she would only be doing so because of a definate injury he/she is suffering from. Can we be so sure about a boxers use of the stuff?

it cannot be injected into other parts of the body to dampen punch pain, its only use in boxing is to be injected next to nerves that control the pain receptors in various parts of hands etc.

ive seen lignocaine used many times at work as a nerve block to amputate fingers etc, so its obviously efective !!

it may be bannned in some areas, but as ive described, its only potential 'foul' use is to mask pain, from the deliverer of the punch and not the receiver.
