Ken Carmody had a hot-dog stand outside Canterbury Bankstown Leagues Club in the '70s when he was still boxing. Remembered me from the gym and always asked me if I remembered him when I bought a hot dog from him. Not much money in the game then.
Poor bastard lost more fights than he won and died in 1982, four years after his last fight.
Looks like Hoppa may be polishing up that hotdog stand for the impending NRL season as he has now been replaced by the Iron Rhino to tackle Shane Cameron on the Fox card of 18th March.

Kirby must want the fastest road to retirement! I commend him on taking such fights, never doubted his toughness and willingness to fight tough fights!
This is what champion fighters do, take on the tough fights, not look for the easy outs and chase bullshite titles, racking up increadable records fighting debutants etc.
dberry no doubt you'll be attending his retirement party after the Cameron fight then? He probably wont retire but his career will well and truly be over as a serious contender. Good on him for taking a tough fight against Cameron, its not the smartest move however. He must be picking up some decent cash, or maybe just in a rush to get to the top which only end sin one way........failure. Im a fan of boxing as well as working in this sport, and as a fan Im picking Cameron stops Kirby early inside 6 rounds perhaps inside 4! Shanes in another class.
I fail to see how some one stepping up and taking on challenges will prematurely end ones carreer, it would surely make ones carreer.
Micky Ward never won a recognised world title but made a great carreer for himself by stepping up to challenges, he wasn't the best boxer surely, but an exciting fighter just the same. His name is well known and respected around the boxing world and he has left a worthy legacy.
Eric 'Butterbean' Esch, however, 77-8-4, was a freak show, a side show to the real fights. Even though he won a world title (a world title invented just for him) his legacy will be that of a joke, never to be taken too seriously he hardly ever stepped up to the challange of an even fight or, low behold, in wich he may even be the under dog.
I wonder N2 Shape, and no offence here, if attitudes such as yours are the reason that boxing, particularly in Australia and more so New Zealand but also in general, is in the shape it's in at the moment?
i'm yet to see cameron show world class ability either. he was nearly decapitated by david tua, who himself hadn't fought for years and hadn't beat anyone of note for years and is not exactly a spring chicken. he severely embarassed cameron in their fight.
Listen I was having a wee dig, I have nothing but respect for Kirby for fighting Shane. If he wins he'll getsome kudos which is great, but I cant see him winning at all, Shane is a much more experienced fighter all round, and stronger than anyone he has fought before including Solo. Im all for guys stepping up and taking on the tough fights, god bless them. But lets not insult Micky Ward by mentioning Kirbys name in the same sentence, Kirby will become a average regional fighter at best but along the way he'll be in some entertaining fights, but with a little more planning and forward thinking he had the potential to be in some pretty usful fights earnings wise overseas!
Tua Tua-manated Cameron with ease, but Tuas on a totally different league of his own compared to out other Australasian heavys, even with his time of he trained so hard for that Cameron fight he wa in great shape, and hes a veteran of the fight game and power is the last thing to leave a fighter!
