Unfortunately that is the competitive and commercial nature of youth sports a mega-million dollar industry. It happens in football, gymnastics, wrestling and martial arts. Any sport where weight is an issue. Any edge that an adults think they can gain is exploited. I think that a lot of people aren't open to learning new ways of maintaining weights and fitness that are backed by science. They want to keep doing things the old way, which is almost always not the healthiest or safest route.BEAST21 wrote:yes i dont put my son on a diet his 13yrs and his body is growing you cant fight nature. i just put him on a weight class that he dont need to diet when he gets older and his growing stops then he can do all the diet he wants. i see kids staving for 24hr and spitting in a cup and running with a body suit to make a weight that they shouldnt be in. is sad that the parents dont see whats going on..i could never leave my son alone with anyone not even his trainer or speacially his mother thats why i have full custody of him... lol but is true when you have a son on this type of sport a parent needs to be on top of things

DC i think you hit it right on the money! if my son keep his weight down because of training and eating right im all for it but not by staving and spitting in a cup or running 3miles before a bout..DCAmateurBoxing wrote:Unfortunately that is the competitive and commercial nature of youth sports a mega-million dollar industry. Re: National Silver Gloves
we have never had a problem with my sons weight until this tourny.
he was 119.8 in dec. at state 123 at region and we had trouble keeping him below 125 for the nationals. it was as hard on me as it was on my son to make weight because i dont beleive in shucking pounds however in this case we had to......if we had known how it was going to end with his hand being raised and then the ref and ring captain getting into an argument and the ref having to go back out and raise the other corners hand it wouldnt have mattered but whats done is done and we had a good time with everything else.
however i do have problems with young kids starving and such to make weight. at this age they are doing what they are suppose to do and that is grow.

jdf before i got into the tournament i ask so many questions speacially how long this tournament is. remember our boys are growing and we as parents have to do whats best for them. my son was 135 when we did the state then he was 137 at the regional and 138.8 at the national with no diet. only hard training and eating right. could you imagine what i would have done to his body if i would have listen to other trainers telling me to put him at 132 for this tournament?jdf wrote:we have never had a problem with my sons weight until this tourny.

Re: National Silver Gloves
i agree totally. that is why we went with 125 instead of 119. we thought we would be safe. almost was'nt.
i kind of think hitting that tractor tire with a sledge may have added more muscle than i thought it would.

Re: National Silver Gloves
lol yes that would do it my son is pretty muscular himself and we didnt let him do much of dips or pull ups or pushups for the same reason he would have been like 143 lol. but we learn for the next time i know i did learn alot so far. im sure i will learn more every time we go to a tournamenjdf wrote:i agree totally. that is why we went with 125 instead of 119. we thought we would be safe. almost was'nt.
