im pretty sure when we had a thread about groves vs degale most thought groves would win. and yes groves looks the better fighter to me. groves has the better jab and more power.yiddo14 wrote:You reckon?MrBoxingUK2 wrote:groves would ko chunky in 3hitman_hatton1 wrote:missed the entrance. :x
stuck the football on for a bit.
best british prospect to turn over since haye.
groves would get owned by degale.
I honestly think DeGale beats him comfortably.
Re: CRINGEWORTHY....
Decent performance by him tonight, he looks the best prospect out of the olympians but he hasn't been at all tested yet he's been in with mainly people well below his level so we have more to learn about him.
His PR is poor, I don't like the daft bravado and entrances, he doesn't quite pull it off somehow, just seems like a big act and he ends up looking like a bell-end, which he may well be? He'd be better getting a bit more level-headed and talking sensibly and dropping the 'Rio Ferdinand yo bruv I'm a gansta bruv' act, I think people would like him more if he stopped acting like a tit, he has the talent to not need a ton of gimmicks.

Re: CRINGEWORTHY....
As for Groves vs DeGale, why do that so soon? Both should have good careers and fight each other for something meaningful down the line, there's no rush. Off initial showings it would be a tight fight, DeGale looks more classy but Groves more solid. I'd take Degales extra class to win it but both have a lot to learn and the fight shouldnt happen yet.

Degale' Reminds me of the ( school bully ) picking on a old man out side the pub ' Then showing off to his mates. PR lessons needed.
Totally unfair because:
1. Haye, Groves's promoter, slagged DeGale off before DeGale had even made his debut
2. Groves keeps calling DeGale out. That £50,000 offer was a joke. DeGale would have got paid more than that tonight. Groves keeps that up, he will end up being the Junior Witter to DeGale's Hatton.

if hes earning on ticket sales , which him commenting on how many he had sold makes me think he at least might partly be , would mean he wouldnt be even close to 50k for that fight . maybe more like 5k , serious.gobbles wrote:hoot wrote:MrBoxingUK2 wrote:degales is getting boring with the "ugly ginger kid" thing about groves, thats all he ever says.if degale really wants the fight he will demand it off frank. did you see how excited degale was about beating barr? a guy who is known to have a terrible chin. degale was to eager for the ko. some of his punches looked like slaps but alot of them looked class. especially the uppercut and the right hook. good performance none the less. shocking ring entrance

Re: CRINGEWORTHY....
as an example of what i posted above ^ if the tickets were say £40 each (thats an example , i dont know how much they were) he said he sold 500 , so that would be £20,000 , he only gets a cut of that , plus would be needing to pay opponent too , plus warren would have all his costs to pay like the venue hire and officials , referee , ring girls etc , i would guess 5k was pretty close to what hed get . maybe warren pays him extra i dont know , but speaking as a promotor , theres no way he was getting 50k for that . no way .
Re: CRINGEWORTHY....
He signed a two year deal with Warren believed to be worth £1.6million for up to 16 fights. Even if he had to take a pay cut when the TV didn't come in, it's still not worth his while fighting Groves for £50,000.
Re: CRINGEWORTHY....
Thought degale looked fantastic tonight but his ring entrance reeked of so solid crew.

the reason its not worth fighting him is because hed get 10 times as much in a few years time for the very same fightgobbles wrote:He signed a two year deal with Warren believed to be worth £1.6million for up to 16 fights. Re: CRINGEWORTHY....
With the greatest respect Ricardo, that's a somewhat naive viewpoint. Personalities matter tremendously in terms of generating support - you only have to look at Hatton's success to see that.Ricardo wrote:It’s funny how people want to comment on how a fighter acts before and after a fight, when all that should matter is how they perform. It's a natural human condition to be affected by an individual based on your assessment of their personality - it happens in every walk of life.
Re: CRINGEWORTHY....
James looked good, but as said, his opponents thus far have been poor.
And yeah, he did look a bit of tit tbh, with his antics.

There is no way our only Olympic champion is on a ticket money deal!Hes not unlicensed mate.He will have been on over 50k last night. It will have taken a huge contract to get him to sign on the dotted linedamianhucker1 wrote:as an example of what i posted above ^ if the tickets were say £40 each (thats an example , i dont know how much they were) he said he sold 500 , so that would be £20,000 , he only gets a cut of that , plus would be needing to pay opponent too , plus warren would have all his costs to pay like the venue hire and officials , referee , ring girls etc , i would guess 5k was pretty close to what hed get . maybe warren pays him extra i dont know , but speaking as a promotor , theres no way he was getting 50k for that . no way .

He is an Olympic Gold Medalist, he would of been on more than £50k in total. This is not unlicensed boxing.
Re: CRINGEWORTHY....
I e heard throw the grape vine guys that James is on over double wot he got offered to fight groves so 100 grand plus but as u say there would have been a bidding war after the olympics so there would ave been alotof money thrown about but I say good luck to him you now he's put himself in that position to get that money winning a gold medal but ave to agree that entrance I had to go the toilet it was bad but th performacewas good showed decent poweran good speed but he's notwinning anyone over with his naz like attituted which I think is the line he's trying to go down

It maybe a form of prejudice but it is not as serious as racism - sorry - its not! Ginger people haven't been denied the right to vote, been lynched, been enslaved, been maltreated - even on their own continent - even today as you get up - there is a political party in our country with a lot of support who want - no, not ginger people - but black people deported if they get into power.MachoMan09 wrote:I disagree. It is a form of prejudice that people seem to get away with. There are kids across the country who are bullied relentlessly for it and it is out of order, in my opinion. It is easy for us who have not been on the receiving end to say it is something and nothing but were the boot to be on the other foot, I would say it could be hurtful if you were a bit sensitive. It definitely gives lots of red-headed people a complex.
It is typical of someone who wants to belittle racism by equating it with 'gingerism' I am not saying it is pleasant and if you take a look at my username - being called Carlos in a playground in Wigan wasn't a cup of tea either. But lets get it right - calling someone a 'ginger' whatever is not the equivalent to a racist insult - its not.

Re: CRINGEWORTHY....
You are equating 'gingerism' to racism - do I have to explain why the two are oh so different historically and politically - why would Groves call out DeGale on his skin colour when he has had the piss taken out of him about the colour of his hair?JCB123 wrote:I know its not racism, just that its school yard taunts that he could do without!!
He must know that the public perceives him as a twat so why enhance that perception????
He comes across more like Ali G with his riddiculous entrance & rapper mate and poor dance moves ........... he is an olympic gold medalist & should have capitalised on that and been a role model rather than a twat!!!
People like to trivialise racism by equating it with 'fattism' or 'slapheadism' or 'gingerism' you have brought up the two rivals colour of skin for some reason - DeGale has not mentioned anything about Groves race and vice versa. So there is no real need to mention it.

I can't believe i'm going to ask this.......What continent dumbass do ginger people inhabit?Carlos-Wigan wrote:It maybe a form of prejudice but it is not as serious as racism - sorry - its not!
