Klitschko - should let the Lewis thing go

Post by nickd »

Just watching him interviewed on Ringside. Still harping on about the Lewis fight, FFS he lost that fight fair and square. He really should let it lie.

Does he honestly think Lewis is scared of him? Lewis faced and beat the best heavyweights in the world over a decade I doubt very much that is the case.

He needs to do it to make him look credible becuase at the moment he is still the champion because Lewis Retired and wants to convince people he isn't afraid of lewis and putting doubt into Lewis's victory makes him look better, furthermore he can be fairly sure Lewis will not take him up on that offer.

I agree Vitali should move on and concentrate on his own career instead of constantly talking about Lennox all the time.

Ok, it would be a big money match but beating a ring rusty 40 year old ex-champ will do little for his legacy.

Hey James, saw the Maxboxing article. I wasn't aware that Bernard Hopkins fought Randy Turpin. Wow.

Vitali will be calling out Larry Holmes next.

Vitali is a very good fighters and should concentrate on this generations fighters.

Otherwise a lesser fighter will come along and KO him whilst he is dreaming of Lewis.

Cuts a strange figure, more and more so every time I see him get interviewed nowadays. The harping on about Lewis is getting a bit tired, I wish he would direct his energies toward Byrd, or even attempting to unify the division. Doesn't he realise if he does this the payday luring Lewis back will be too good for him to pass, even if he's about 79 years old by that time?

Im no big Vitaly fan,but Lewis is also acting like a prick here and Vitaly has a right to be somewhat upset.Lewis goes out of his way to give advice to Vitalys opponents on how to beat him and he also has less than kind words to say about VK and his abilitys as a fighter in interviews,it is not as if Lewis is an innocent here.Add the fact that Lewis said hed give the rematch to Vitaly on live TV right after their fight and then reneged on his promise while holding the heavyweight belts hostage for over a year until finally calling it quits. And how about his demand that VKs healed cuts be checked by two doctors of his choice to see if the proposed rematch could go ahead and when the docs said yes the cuts are healed he called it a career and retired instead of going ahead with the rematch.Considering the circumstances no wonder Vitaly is upset that Lewis keeps talking shit about him in retirement after pulling the stunts he did before retiring.I know you Brits stand up for Lewis and theres nothing wrong with being patriotic, but as long as Lewis doesnt stop talking shit about Vitaly,Vitaly wont shut up about calling Lewis out for another fight to settle things once and for all, thats the truth of the matter.

He didn't hold the belts hostage for over a year, he would have been stripped if he had, it was almost a year, which is a champion's right. How often does Kostya Tszyu defend his title, not very often.

What circumstances? Vitali lost because Lewis was turning his face into dogfood

I agree it's a bit unsportsmanlike of Lewis to offer advice to his oppnents, but there's no way on god's earth Vitali has a right to a rematch against a 40 year old retired heavyweight, for fucks sake mate, Lewis was old enough when he granted Vitali the chance, and Vitali wasn't good enough to do the business, cut or no cut, he was on his way out. I have watched the fight several times, and each time I watch it, it's clearer and clearer that Lewis was on his way to winning.

You obviously have something against Lewis, it's as plain and pumpkins.

He kept on flip flopping about wether or not he was gonna give a rematch or retire, this went on for almost a whole year,so yes he was holding the belt hostage during that time.It is not as if he was planning on fighting and was just looking for an opponent, nobody knew if he was gonna retire or fight on because he kept avoiding answering the question.People wanted to know if he was going to retire or keep fighting but he kept dragging his heels until finally announcing his retirement after the WBC gave him thirty days to grant a rematch to Vitaly or he would be stripped of the belt, that to me is holding the belt hostage for no good reason.

Obviously, the point i was trying to make completely flew over your head,i suggest you reread the sentence from were you quoted that little tidbit of mine. What i said was that Vitaly has every right to be upset with Lewis actions AFTER the fight, not before or during the fight.VK defeated Kirk Johnson in two rounds to earn his rematch with Lewis but then Lewis goes and says he wants 2 doctors of his choosing to examine VKs left eye to see if the cuts have healed and when they tell him VKs good to go he decides to retire instead.Saying hed grant him a rematch on live TV and then reneging on his promise and holding the belts hostage for a year left a sour taste in the mouths of many people, including VK among others.

He didnt deserve a rematch??Surely you jest,or at least i hope you are.The fight was competitve until the very end,had Lennox blown him out of there early then yes id also fail to see why a rematch would be warranted, but by looking at the fight it wasnt a blow out for either fighter.Lewis won on a cuts stoppage yes,but he unloaded some powerful punches on VK yet failed to put him down at any point in the fight and VK gave as good as he got during the fight,he did after all almost put Lenny down in that second round didnt he  .And your claiming that Lewis was on his way to victory is just an opinion and nowhere near fact, just like the people who say VK was on his way to a win are just expressing their opinions, doesnt mean their right. The fact remains there is no way of knowing who would have won the fight had it went on,although the blood flowing into VKs eyes was clearly bothering him by then which probably would have been a factor in the eventual outcome.
You obviously have something against Lewis, it's as plain and pumpkins
And you obviously get a little too emotional when someone doesnt bend over backwards to kiss Lewis arse,i am a realist, not some prissy fanboy of either fighter.I find VKs style of fighting to be atrocious to watch and he is far from being a great champion, whereas Lewis was a good champion although a tad overrated by some in a historical ranking sense. If i had to pick on whos fights id rather watch when i sit back at night and pop in one of my boxing tapes it would be Lewis 9 times out of ten over VK,frankly the only VK fight i ever rewatch sometimes is his fight versus Lewis! So no i have nothing at all against Lewis or VK for that matter, but i always call things like i see em and when i see some overly patriotic brits slagging VK while giving Lewis a free pass from their venom then ill add my two cents worth. If you dont like my opinion on the subject at hand then so be it,i certainly wont lose any sleep over it.But it takes two to tango and BOTH Lewis AND Vitaly are to blame for this little charade they have going on at the moment,if you fail to see that when it is as clear as day then i say it is you who has somekind of agenda against Vitaly.

Have you considered that LL maybe fed up of his bitchin on every interview & TV show, hence the reason for suppoting the opponents.
LL won fair & square. Not his fault the ref stopped it!
If it had gone for another round LL would have done him. VK prob knows that too.
Anyway I cant see VK staying champ for long sooner or later someone will do him like his brother was.Once someone finds the blueprint to his demise it'll be a downward spiral for him.We saw how old & fat Sanders shook him up.
He should stop harping on about Lewis and make the most of what he has now.Unification should be his goal.

What are you getting so worked up for then. I have no agenda against Vitali, I just think it's a bit laughable calling out a 40 year old retired former champion.

Just because someone is competitive, doesn't mean they automatically deserve a rematch, had the fight occured when Lewis was in his prim,e I dare say he would have given him one, because I think he would have been very confident about beating him in a rematch.

I'm totally objective about Lewis as a fighter, and as I said some of his comments have been a bit unsporting, but what the fornicate, at least he's not bitching like a little girl because he can't get his own way.

Vitali should just get on with his career, what does beating a 40 year old lewis prove anyway?

Have you considered that maybe that bitchin works both ways and that both Lewis and VK are acting like immature little kids when discussing each other??VKs calling out Lewis because Lenny keeps saying how VK is not a great fighter and is very ordinary (which is true),so VK angrily and rightfully so keeps telling him hey if you believe that im such a bad fighter then come out of retirement and prove it!!Lewis won their first fight on a cuts stoppage which is a legitimate way of getting a win,but the fight was competitive until the end which explains the high demand from fight fans for the rematch. And once again there is no way of knowing who would have won had the fight went on,VK had cleared his head by the time the fight was stopped and was vociferously protesting the stoppage although the doc did the right thing by stopping it when he did because of those gruesome cuts.I agree though that unification should be Vitalys main goal, but as long as Lenny keeps talking shyte about VK,VK is gonna keep calling him out for a fight.

I am not getting worked up in the least friend, just debating in a calm manner infront of my computer. All ill say is that they should BOTH shut the fornicate up about each other and go on with their lives, but as long as one keeps harping on about the other theyll be trading verbal barbs for some time yet, believe that mate.
