It is a very intresting fight, both are good boxers. Burns' has the edge in experience, but I feel Sykes will prevail on points in a close fight with both having there moments but Sykes' getting the nod.

Interesting cos you had Burns winning against martinez if the fight wasnt in puerto rico... with the fight in puerto rico martinez on points. Has Sykes really impressed people that much>?

Yes he has really impressed me. As well as that Burns' would be supper motivated for a world title challenge and to be fair Martinez is very beatable, but now the tides have turned it is now Sykes big challenge so he now would be super motivated and Burns' may struggle to motivate himself.

Ricky Burns switches from sultry Puerto Rico to your more homespun Huddersfield when he faces Gary Sykes for the vacant British super-featherweight title on March 5 - the day before he was due to challenge unbeaten Roman "Rocky" Martinez for the WBO title in Puerto Rico.
Boxing is messed up when its fighters essentially give up on the world for what amounts to Wigan Pier, but the Puerto Rican mission always looked Mission Impossible for the Coatbridge stylist, even though fellow Scot Ken Buchanan won a world title there in San Juan amid sweltering conditions back in 1970, surely one of the greatest British-boxing feats of all time.
Burns, who ought to be in great shape at least, has already challenged for the British title and was floored three times and outscored by Leeds banger Carl Johanneson in Leeds over 12 rounds a few years ago, since when he has gone unbeaten and picked up a Commonwealth belt. He brings undoubted boxing ability, height and reach - and more experience - into this overdue second shot.
He goes up against another Yorkshireman in Sykes, no relation to the infamous Paul but a handful all the same, who hails from Dewsbury and will enjoy the very real benefits of home support in nearby Huddersfield. The 26-year-old earned his shot when he outscored Anthony Crolla over 10 thrilling rounds in Stoke last year – a man who has since ended the career of Manchester great Michael Brodie – and enters the ring unbeaten at 14-0 (4). Sykes, a former ABA featherweight champion, is a fine boxer, tall and wiry for the weight like Burns and particularly hardworking, but he remains relatively untested and is not a big puncher.
Burns can hardly be hailed the new Danny Lopez, either, but holds a stoppage win over Michael Gomez, retaining his Commonwealth title in the process, and obviously looks more seasoned, more accustomed to championship territory, and the 'away' territory he endures next month, even if Puerto Rico proved too far away. As well as Johanesson in Leeds, Burns went in with Edinburgh's hard-hitting Alex Arthur in Edinburgh in 2006, again going the full 12 rounds, staying on his feet throughout. Burns stands for cleverness, counterpunching and stamina. To me, he is simply the smarter of the two challengers.
While the ferverish workrate of Sykes will cause Burns problems, along with the feverish crowd support, the visitor has the championship experience and the ability to ride out the rough spots on the way to the title.

Looks like Sykes will get fucked around here. If Burns pulls out who should Sykes fight?

They advertised this fight on Friday Fight Night so at the moment it's very unclear.

I see The Sun article was published on 16th of February so will he fight both?

The fight in Puerto Rico was always going to be off it just never looked like happening so this is great news for Burns.

Can Morris do the weight ok nowadays, Always really like him and was really surprised when Simpson stopped him. How do we see him doing against Sykes as Diggler is sure he's in which I don't doubt for a minute but interesting not many views forthcoming
