Green V Siaca
All set guys Green V Siaca, 14.04.2010, Green by KO in my eyes..
Re: GREEN V SIACA
What is going on? Siaca made middleweight for his last fight. Is he just going to go off his diet for this one?
Re: GREEN V SIACA
Danny Green hopes defence against Siaca will bring out Anthony Mundine
By Adrian Warren
February 16, 2010 Australia's IBO cruiserweight boxing world champion Danny Green says he hopes to "smoke out" arch-rival Anthony Mundine by defeating one of his conquerors - Manny Siaca.
Green announced on Tuesday he will defend his world title against 34-year-old Siaca from Puerto Rica on April 14 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
With American superstars Bernard Hopkins and Antonio Tarver knocking back offers to fight Green, the Australian has managed to secure a fight against Siaca who won a points decision against Mundine at the same venue in May 2004.
Siaca has a record of 22-6 with 19 KOs.
Green, 28-3, will be making the second defence of his title and hopes it will help bring a rematch with countryman Mundine who defeated him in their first clash in Sydney in 2006.
“Our approach to Anthony Mundine is trying to smoke that rabbit out of his hole,” Green said.
However, he insisted he would not underestimate Siaca in the meantime.
“Siaca is a tough and experienced fighter who has fought some of the world's best, so I certainly won't be taking him lightly,” Green said.
Siaca said Green was a powerful fighter but he held no fears of the Australian.
“I have very fond memories of Sydney and I'm confident I can do what I did to Mundine and take Green's title,” Siaca said.

I don't like it. Surely a better CW could have been arranged Danny.

Meh, I'll check it out.madball1982 wrote:I don't like it. Surely a better CW could have been arranged Danny.

id second that mate, its probably worth it..Marlin wrote:Meh, I'll check it out.madball1982 wrote:I don't like it. Surely a better CW could have been arranged Danny.
but do agree with Madball about better CWs out there at the moment
Re: GREEN V SIACA
This fight is a joke and proves nothing. Siaca beat Mundine like 6 years ago, siaca has since lost a few fights and in not the same fighter. This win from Green proves nothing. Better for green to go after some Light heavies, and win a "real" belt at that weight.
Re: GREEN V SIACA
don't really know what to make of the fight, i will watch but i really don't know what to make of it.

Re: GREEN V SIACA
Sounds like Green is really angling for the big-money rematch with Mundine and Siaca is just a means to an end. He can sell it to the public as beating the man that beat "the Man". Hope he dosn't get too fixated and desparate on Mundine. Plenty of other fish in the sea.Green ... has managed to secure a fight against Siaca who won a points decision against Mundine at the same venue in May 2004.

And yeah, will go with Hounddawg on this one: early round KO.
Re: GREEN V SIACA
this is joke really danny should only be going for big fights at this stage of his career especially after his last win he should be trying to make the most of it what about going for one cw belt holders which wpuld make hime a three time world champ if you count the wbc interim belt he got from beating lucas
Re: GREEN V SIACA
what a waste of time and talent
Re: GREEN V SIACA
and Green believes that this will draw Mundine to him

Re: GREEN V SIACA
Im losing respect for Green, why keep going on about Mundine when he has attracted RJJ downunder, a bigger name than Mundine will ever fight obviously, but why not push forward instead of dwelling on that yapping goose.harshfriller wrote:and Green believes that this will draw Mundine to him
Is Siaca realistically a suitable fit for a CW title defense? Someone earlier said that he had just weighed in for a middleweight bout. Will it just be a walk in the park filler of a fight for Green?
Re: GREEN V SIACA
Yes, he weighed 72.5 in his last fight. 79.8 in 2008 & within 79.4 in 2006whyohbee wrote:Im losing respect for Green, why keep going on about Mundine when he has attracted RJJ downunder, a bigger name than Mundine will ever fight obviously, but why not push forward instead of dwelling on that yapping goose.harshfriller wrote:and Green believes that this will draw Mundine to him

Re: GREEN V SIACA
I think Danny has been badly advised.
Re: GREEN V SIACA
From what I understand Green just couldn't get any of the "names" ie TARVER HOPKINS to fight him. Hopkins would rather take the lesser pay day and easier fight ( much easier fight to promote to the US fans) and fight RJJ...one big problem GREEN has at this stage of his career is time...and when you deal with the above mentioned fighters it takes a long time to negotiate a fight. It took GREEN a long time to lure RJJ.
GREEN needs to stay active and when he anounced this fight today I realised I had been sucked in by his marketing/publicity strategy. He put up the challenge to THE MAN (including the 10% to indigenous youth, 50/50 split of rest, on anzac day ect ect) knowing full well that he would never accept the fight but generating massive media coverage and interest and when he had that attention and momentum he goes and announces todays fight with SIACA. Going along with the he beat MUNDINE theme....BRAVO GREEN MACHINE PROMOTIONS you played me well!!!
As for SIACA his last 2 losses are to BRANCO (LH) and KESSLER (SM) both world title fights and very good fighters so as dissapointed as I am that he hasnt as yet landed a "big name" its still light years better than what THE MAN keeps insulting us with!!! I just hope he gets a good undercard together...any suggestions??

Re: GREEN V SIACA
I'm not disappointed in the opposition. Siaca is a good fighter, who has fought good fighters. It's a good fight in general, and Danny would be a fool to take him lightly......except for one thing...the weight difference. A MW, even though Manny is better known as a SMW, fighting a CW, who is better known as a SMW/LHW...all for a CW title. Confused yet? Propbably not, but it seems very strange.
However, I'm asssuming this will be at a contracted weight well below the CW limit, even though it will be for the CW title.
That's another thing that i find strange. Fighting for a 200lb championship belt at a contracted weight of say 185lb....Hmmmm![[icon_neutral.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif)

Problem is if Green beats Sciaca he will be regarded as beating a little guy. No win situation.
Re: GREEN V SIACA
Do you blokes honestly think Green can just say "I'll fight Hopkins" or "I'll fight Huck" and it happens easy as that!?!
You blokes are kidding yourselves.

Re: GREEN V SIACA
laceemup has got it rite, this fite is better than carefully picking domestic fighters & yelling out "i'm best in the world". greeny will have to keep in shape if he wants to take on a fit briggs who was world class ( WAS world class, still hope this dosnt happen)
Re: GREEN V SIACA
I dont think anyone thinks that, it's the weight discrepancy between himself and Siaca thats bothering most people.Marlin wrote:Do you blokes honestly think Green can just say "I'll fight Hopkins" or "I'll fight Huck" and it happens easy as that!?!

I would have thought if Green was going down this path Bika would have been a better option, surely he's screaming for a fight right now and he's local to boot. But for all i know maybe they approached him and he declined... i dont know.
I think all in all Siaca was a familiar opponent ready to sign on the dotted line right then and there, no messing about. Green stays active while negotiating for bigger contracts. I honest to god hope the "big" contact he's chasing is Mundine, i understand he wants to avenge his loss but he can prove alot more to the Australian public by beating a couple of big American names if thats a viable option.
Re: GREEN V SIACA
Siaca is not a middleweight. His first ever fight was at light heavy and apart from supposedly fighting at middle last time out he had never fought below super middle prior to that...

And it's not like Green is fighting, or ever has fought, at 200lbs...

Re: GREEN V SIACA
The only problems I see with Manny, who will not last many rounds are:
1. This will be only his 3rd fight in 45 months, and
2. His two most recent opponents were not world-beaters.
Really the bout is just a "points scoring" contest over Mundine and his "protected species" status, in a vain attempt to flush Mundine out of hiding by the Danny camp.

Will any of you WA blokes fly over for this one?
