What's the worst show you've been to?

Post by MacTavish »

What's the worst show that anyone has been to? Could be for atmosphere, crowd trouble, dull card that promised so much but delivered f-all...

Have been to about a dozen shows and the worst was Khan Vs SinClaire - for the reason that there were huge 30 min gaps between bouts which meant lots of waiting around... :shame:

Bought tickets to Hobson-Haye on the wednesday and the following friday watched Haye and an Italian in front of about 200 people in Huddersfield.Add to that SRCJJ Small carrying on in his scream mask on the undercard(in front of 50ish people) and it was something of an anticlimax.Nobody seemed interested in any of the bouts

I have recently been keeping any eye on how well boxing shows are put together and presented compared to the UFC/Strikeforce shows and there is no compariosn. Boxing is sh1t becasue the production in clunky and the fights are just not evenly matched. Does anyone remember the MC at the Cleverley bill :oo he was bad, really bad, the whole production was. The worst card I have been to was Calzaghe Vs Bika.

Khan v Barrera because of the anticipation and then the let down of the shitty atmosphere which has been discussed on here to death.

I've not been to many, only started in the last year or so, but I've took in a few in that time.

I doubt anything will beat Froch v Dirrell. Terrible, terrible undercard-90 minutes between the only half-decent undercard fight and the main event, which ended up being awful as well.

I went to an England vs Poland amateur international in Bletchley in 1986. A young Henry Akinwande was our heavyweight entrant (he lacked confidence and stumbled round the ring like a new-born giraffe); Fidel Smith boxed at middleweight (later Fidel Castro), who was also very inexperinced at international level and had only just switched from kickboxing - and it didn't get much better.
There were 10 bouts in all, not one of them any good.

Scroll down to the Bristol dinner show. Value for money or what?

Two fights fell through at the last minute then Deano iced McKenzie in about a minute!

I went to a musical based on 'Jack the Ripper' (no it wasn't 'Saucy Jack' btw) put on by the old folks at my grans home over Christmas.

It started off badly and went downhill from there.

The old sods forgot their lines, constantly came in too early and began bickering loudly on stage about who should be stood where. I lost the thread of the plot around 3 minutes in, but as far as i can make out the director (and night warden) called an early close to proceedings just after the interval due to the heated argument on stage concerning whether Bert from downstairs was "singing too seriously" (i felt he wasn't, to be honest)

In the end they announced they had raised 150 quid for an undisclosed charity (themselves, i imagine).

Audley v Bonin.

The main event was quite entertaining but there was a terrible atmosphere all night as everyone knew this was the end of BBC Boxing; it was like attending a wake. Adding to that, the sole big name on the undercard (Wayne McCullough) dropped out and the rest was made up of unremarkable matches featuring non-ticketselling non-Londoners, so very little fan noise.

Take your pick form the following…

David Haye Vs Ismael Abdoul – took a group of non-hardcore boxing fans to the fight telling them how good Haye was, how explosive etc… etc… David got in the ring and it was clear from the first he wanted to do 12 rounds. He did, without ever looking to get rid of the durable Abdoul. Luckily the undercard was jam packed.

Dunne V Kiko martinez – One Irish bloke in the bog after said he’d paid 120 euros for his ticket, only come in for the main event, and it lasted a minute. Sure he said he’d paid roughly 2 euros or a euro a second. Undercard was okay, craic was good afterwards, apart from going to sleep in an airport with terry on the chair opposite, but waking up with an Italian guy next to me. Worrying times.

Calzaghe manfredo – Went for someones birthday, £40 tickets up in the gods. Watched two dots move around a matchbox for 10 mins, that was just after watching one dot flatten another dot in a round.

But the worst for me was a Kings Hall Stoke show. The headliner was Lawton Vs Judex meema … Meema befuddled Lawton by running backwards, constantly, before getting DQ’d if I remember. That surely wasn’t meant to be the headliner. On the undercard was Chris Edwards against the Young Asian kid (forget his name, he fought him again recently, and got iced last week or the week before). The “naught Forty” hooligan fraternity sang some terrible racist songs that I wont repeat on here form the balcony, directed at the young fighter, and also his family.

Been to 3 shows and all were pretty good, from what I've heard it seems to be that the worst shows are normally in arenas and the better one's in small halls.

All 3 of the shows that I have been to were in small halls and couldn't complain.

the long gap was due to american tv though , they are where the money is so thats why they agreed to have that fight later to fit their time zone , but notts police wouldnt have the show starting later due to fears of trouble especially as forest had been at home vs newcastle . not sure if they carried it out but im sure people were told they had to be in by 10pm despite froch not fighting till 2am and that no one would be allowed in after 10 . i was in early so dont know if that happened . but all in all the shows probs in my opinion were mainly just a string of things they couldnt control other than maybe making the undercard stronger , i didnt mind too much as there was 3 fighters i know personally on the undercard plus 1 i know via associations .

I found that show enjoyable. Real thrill for me to see Barrera who frankly was rolling with the shots and never looked uncomfortable. He'd have come into that as it went on and asked some real quetions.
Pryce Hall and Cook Martinez were decent too.
