Re: Wlad Klitschko V
vs. foreman it is an equal fight with wlad having both the physical and technical advantages and foreman having a big puncher's chance (considering wlad's chin) , all in all , wlad is a slight favorite for me here.ThatOne wrote:George Foreman

against tyson i consider wlad the small favorite again , and it is prime for prime speaking.
against holyfield wlad is a big favorite , what can holyfield do against him ? holyfield's never been a big puncher. probably a late stoppage (inside 12) win for wlad or at least a very wide decision.
against holmes wlad stops him late (inside 12) or wins a wide decision , holmes can not outjab such a skilled bigger man. holmes always rellied on his size advantage which becomes a disadvantage here.
against ali , like with holmes.
against liston , liston gets his puncher's chance but much more probably wlad stops him inside 10.
against patterson , patterson stopped inside 8 at best for him if not much earlier.

I'll just pretend the above post isn't there.
He loses to all of them save perhaps Patterson, as I could see him pulling an Ibragimov type safety-first performance since Patterson could fall asleep in there in regards to his activity and punch output.
I would LOVE to see Wlad vs Liston or Foreman . . if just to see a 6'6 guy run away for dear life around the ring.

I share your thoughts. I wonder if that gentleman was putting us on or was he sincere. Ali and Holmes feasted on stand up fighters. The rest would beat him also.

Re: Wlad Klitschko V
Gee, you've got some tough matchups for him!
George Foreman KO2 Wladimir Klitschko
Evander Holyfield TKO9 Wladimir Klitschko - Wlad gets some rounds and hurts Holy early
Mike Tyson KO1 Wladimir Klitschko - A focussed Wlad can beat a mid-late 90s Tyson, but no chance against the 80s version.
Larry Holmes TKO13 Wladimir Klitschko - Wlad takes about 5 rounds and hurts Larry who comes on strong and the end. Could go the distance.
Muhammad Ali TKO8 Wladimir Klitschko - Wlad never goes down, but is busted up. He lands a few bombs which Ali absorbs well.
Sonny Liston TKO5 Wladimir Klitschko - Big size advantage to Wlad keeps him going this long, but little chance really.
Wladimir Klitschko TKO11 Floyd Patterson - Both men down, Wlad behind on points
Rocky Marciano KO10 Wladimir Klitschko - If Wlad fights smart he can beat Rocky on points or by late stoppage, but I think Rocky hurts his body, splitting the rounds and putting him to sleep with a right in the late rounds.
So one win out of eight for Wlad and he is competitive in half the fights.

maybe we'll settle for everyone KO1 wlad , with the exception of patterson rallying after being knocked down himself and KTFO wlad in 3 ?
Re: Wlad Klitschko V
He loses to Foreman, Liston and Tyson... He doesn't have the chin or the defensive/survival instincts to beat the best punchers.
I think he has a good chance with Holyfield and Marciano. I'd expect Holy and Rocky to win but they'd be close fights.
Holmes and Ali would be favourites but size and styles would make this a hard fight for both of them. I think Ali would squeak by based on his speed and his ability to make Wlad miss with the right. Holmes on the other hand would struggle. I can see that one going to the wire.
I agree that Wlad definitely takes Paterson.

Re: Wlad Klitschko V
Who has he ever beaten NEAR the level of a peak Holyfield . . .this is a guy who couldn't keep up with the pace of Lamon Brewster. If a past-it Evander can arguably beat Lennox in their rematch, he easily stops Klitschko in the middle rounds at his best. Way too much speed, activity and angles for Wlad who was confused in the early going by Joe Average Calvin Brock.Ezzard wrote:He loses to Foreman, Liston and Tyson... Close fight with Holmes? Are you serious? A 45 year old Mercer messed up Wlad's face with the jab . . it would be a true 'pizza face' vs a peak Holmes.

You can always watch Lewis/Holyfield to satisfy that curiosity.
Re: Wlad Klitschko V
Isn't Foreman pretty tall? Not sure there would be a big height discepancy there.
Re: Wlad Klitschko V
I think Wlad would beat Marciano and Patterson. Otherwise I see him being stopped by everyone else.

Re: Wlad Klitschko V
^^^I think I disagree with almost every individual sentence
Re: Wlad Klitschko V
Wlad is a top notch boxer with a weak chin. Weak chins are almost always over stated on this forum but in this case it's a fair call.
Eventually all of the bangers reach that chin and these guys (Foreman, Liston, Tyson) were too good at finishing not to end it there and then.
Marciano can score the KO but he's got a hard job getting at Wlad. He's going to eat a lot of leather. He can do it but Wlad can dig too. Rocky is relying on one shot equalising everything Wlad's put on him. This is why I think it's close.
Holyfield couldn't get inside Bowe's jab often enough (when he used it) and Wlad will be looking to utilise his jab more frequently. When Holy does get inside he doesn't bang with the same authority as Marciano. Again, he can do it but it's close.
The issue for me is that you can't just pick up Wlad's poorest performances without doing the same for the others... Remember the Holyfield who sleepwalked through the first fight with Moorer? Remember how Holmes could sometimes look pedestrian against inferior opponents to Wlad?
Ali and Holmes are better than Wlad but are less likely to land a KO shot. They are going to have to box a man with bigger dimensions then them and they won't find it easy. But I do expect them to come out on top.
I rememebr the 80s HWs and how they fought in snoozefests. I remember them being lambasted constantly for their lack of application and how they didn't match up to their 70s counterparts. 20-30 years later I get told over and over about how talented they were and how they'd mop up today's best fighters. I'm not convinced they would.

Re: Wlad Klitschko V
Holyfield was well past his prime vs Lewis. Yet in both fights, especially the 2nd, he managed to get inside and land some hard shots. In the 7th of their rematch he even had Lewis stunned and retreating. Lewis eventually changed the tide in the 9th with a BIG uppercut.
So 1) Lewis's chin and recuperative abilities were far superior to Klitschko, as was his poise under pressure and 2) Wlad doesn't throw the punch most effective vs a smaller fighter looking to get inside; the uppercut. Evander at his peak, not having to worry about the uppercut from a big man, would use his hand and footspeed to get inside and the first flush left hook he lands will seriously wobble Klitschko and it'll end soon after.
Wlad has gotten away with this vs his frankly crap comp he's been facing the last couple of years in Brock, shot Brewster, shot Rahman, Chagaev etc. He EXCELLS vs smaller plodding opponents with suspect stamina. But vs the HW elite like he's being matched up with in this thread they are serious flaws.

Re: Wlad Klitschko V
Totally agree on paragraph 1. And you’re right that Wlad doesn’t have the uppercut.
I wouldn’t say Lewis’s chin were ‘far superior’, I can accept that they were better though.
I would anticipate a similar fight. Holy gives up the early rounds knowing he can take what Wlad is firing. Then he comes on in the middle rounds once Wlad is a little gassed from his efforts (similar to Lewis) and perhaps a tad over confident from his early success. Holy then either finds that shot and forces the stoppage or they go into the final 3rd of the fight about even.

I don't see how you can ignore Wlad's mental shortcomings. I wasn't kidding about him wetting himself against Foreman and he would be skiddish against all of these fighters. Wlad would be trying to survive more than win. Pointing out his size and skills are exactly why it's so frustrating to watch this sissy fight.
As for Holyfield, watch the Bowe trilogy and tell me Wlad could survive any of that. Evander would run him out of the ring.
I think what we all may be doing is selling Patterson short.

Patterson is the only one he would have more than a 10% chance against. It's not hard to see him knocking out Patterson. On the other hand, it's not hard Patterson knocking him out.

Did you see the Brewster fight? You don't think any of that was mental? He had an anxiety attack in the middle of a fight he was dominating.
The Purrity loss wasn't much different and he was teetering on the brink against Williamson & Peter.
I've never seen him in an adverse situation without urine in his shoe.
