ESPN shows Boxing

Post by earsjohn »

I've just stumbled across last nights Friday Night Fights featuring Shawn Porter v Russell Jordan on ESPN. Is this a one off or the beginning of something regular?

(Apologies if this is covered in another thread, but I couldn't find one!)

I read they commisioned and screened a very good doc last week, called something like "When Ali met Larry" - Holmes v Ali - a look back on the event, with a lot of previously unseen footage of the two champs at home and training etc

A horrible fight, you wouldn't want to see it again, but the whole event and build up would be very interesting to see all these years later.
I remember having a bet with a friend, who was convinced the greatest was going to do it yet again, but like most boxing fans I knew the great one, with his died hair, was heading for a terrible beating.
It was shocking to see though, and I felt sick watching it and no way could collect on the bet after seeing that.

It shows how hungry we are for televised boxing - the current output across the board is weak to say the least...

I suppose, I'm just suprised people are getting excited about ESPN when there has been no sign of anything except US FNF. Better than nowt I guess
