Bernard wasnt a failure in the US, only for SRL folded and his missus wanted to go home then he would probably still be there. He was immensely popular in America.
However, I do know someone that was a failure in America.............
ffs.
touchy touchy.
just admit it didn't work out in america for him.
all those points wins in a row.
and he struggled in a few of those.
his career was in need of a change and he came back.
and hatton did very well stateside thankyou very much.
30,000 fans turning up to support a fighter will never be beaten.

you wouldn't be by any chance just looking at Dunnes boxrec record and deciding he was a failure in the States would you?

Oh well if 30,000 fans turn up to see you have your brains smashed all over the canvas then that is a success - but if you win on points THATS a failure. Very good, very good! Now jog on sonny jim!

dunne never fought at a level close to hatton. hatton beat top level fighters. dunne didn't beat any really. but bernard was not a bad fighter who deserved his world title victory.

never said he did I was just making a point. it seems the usual crew turn up to knock Irish fighters on every thread whilst at the same time dissapearing up the holes of some hyped British fighters. This is a thread about Bernard retiring you would think that the boring cliched tossers could give it a rest even once.

He made a good life out of Boxing, got a lot of the rub of the green and made some great money out of lucrative sponsorship deals here that made him a household name - which will make him a few quid also in the future.
However, he was batting above his head and was not able to cope with any type of a decent fighter that had a good shot on em, every time I watched him at the 02 I always felt that he was on borrowed time.
He was lucky to win the belt.
Fair play to him though, not everyone can say they were champion of the world.
Brought a bit of joy to these parts
Having read-through this off-on-a-tangent-topic, I think this is the fairest reply on the actual subject.
My only gripe is calling Dunne a world champion - although I admit my anger is at the WBA for their absurdness, and not at Dunne who just won what was offered to him. I think Caballero would have squashed him faster than his Thai nemesis.

Did very well for himself and was in some very good fights, good luck to him in the future
good point - he was blown away twice! but never went dont and stayed down.
Against Kiko he got up three times before being stopped. Against Cordoba he was put down twice and got up. Against Poonsawat he was stopped on the 3KD rule!

He was never going to beat any of the top dogs. I can only imagine what JuanMa or Gamboa would have done to him. He might be in a wheelchair after those fights.
Hello Lirva
First thing that popped into my head when I read this and seen the join date.
