If you believe your ability to study history makes you relevant, then think again. Studying and understanding are completely different things, perhaps your history teacher should have pointed that out. If you do not consider RJJ to be either the most successful or influencial boxer to visit these shores then I believe you are incorrect. To compare Azumah to RJJ...struth, you lost the audience there mate. I remember all of his visits to these shores and his last, in particular, was a massive standout.
I have read your opinions, but as they so often miss the mark when refering to Australian boxing, they are very rarely worth entertaining.
And as for me talking about Rugby of any sort...well, you really don't know what you are talking about do you. A barb could not have been thrown in a less accurate direction.
oh, and sorry for not using any smilies to get my point accross. As for Azumah Nelson - he was one of the great feather and super featherweights of all time and certainly for my money the best featherweight of his generation - In fact probably the best fighter in boxing around 1984-85. I would certainly put Jones Jr on par with Nelson on a bad day.
How is Jones Jr career more historically significant than Jack Johnsons career?![]()
I am not saying Jones Jr didn't have the potential legacy to become a great fighter - its just big losses to Tarver, Green and Calazghe has put him as a 'nearly great' You could argue Joe Frazier had a similar legacy to Jones - though I would say Fraizer only lost to two of the greatest heavyweights in history, I am probably being a tad unkind to Joe Fraizer.
Was Jones Jr the greatest fighter ever to visit Australia - the anwser is no.![]()
Therefore you are wrong. 8)

All you are doing, Carlos- Wigan (you just have to love double barrel sir names) is angling for a fight. You are talking Shyte for disagreeing that Danny Green is good for Australian boxing. I'll agree with you that Jack Johnson and Archie Moore are bigger names than RJJ and have fought here, in Australia, the rest are splitting hairs and very subjective.
Let's give Toppity the benefit of the doubt and assume he means modern day boxers, in which case he is, subjectively speaking, right.
You're trying to start a fight over the internet with some one who has demonstrated reasonable knowledge on the given topic, on his home turf, by splitting hairs? This isn't what they call trolling by any chance?

Re: Green calls out Mundine
I'm not talking shyte about Australian boxing - I am one of the biggest fans of Australian boxing, love reading about Australian boxing history, Australia is a nation steeped in boxing history behind only the UK and the United States in my opinion and I do like Danny Green - look through my posting history! But Toppity is wrong to say that Roy Jones Jr is the greatest ever fighter to fight on your shores - it's not true!dberry wrote:All you are doing, Carlos- Wigan (you just have to love double barrel sir names) is angling for a fight. He stated it as fact and not opinion - if he had said 'in my opinion Roy Jones - though shot is the greatest blah blah' then we could have discussed it but he would still be wrong - and do you think Toppity gives me any slack when I post on here?

I think you'll find the comment I made is which continent do red heads originate from and you'll find the answer is Europe! I know you think white people are indigenous to Australia because you are a bit stupid but you'll find that you and every other white person travelled out on a boat or a plane from Europe* sometime in the last 300 years or so.Hounddawg wrote:I haven't checked the British forum in a while, I'm very lazy, so what continent do red heads occupy again Carlos?
I must admit Hounddawg - you are the poster I thought who would have said something daft like 'Roy Jones Jr was the greatest ever fighter to visit Australia' it is the kind of dumb statement backed up with very little boxing knowledge that you always make - do you know who Tom Heeney is now?
* And the white people who come into Australia from Canada, The US, Argentina etc - yup - they are all indigenous to Europe too!

The point was made and its a fair point, but the hyperbole he surrounded with was false - if someone says 'Roy Jones Jr is the greatest fighter ever to visit Australia' it cannot be ignored really. On the British forum - that kind of statement is always challenged.caveman wrote:carlos, the point he is getting across is "green is good for australian boxing"...

Re: Green calls out Mundine
I hope Choc takes this fight but id doubt it, Mundine is a very skillfull and technical boxer and has the talent to take on some of the big names but unfortunatley he wastes it, I think if he doesnt land something big this year his carrer will be all but over, a man who looks to be ageing by the day.
Re: Green calls out Mundine
yes mundine has the talent, but not the will. he has no heart and is a disgrace to himself, his so called ppl, the sport and australia. as ive mentioned b4, if he put up most of australia would likely support him, myself included, but he wont, instead he vacates belts to move weight classes, he calls out retired boxers then ducks them after they oblige, he schedules fights for titles in a div that he cant/ wont make weight, fights tomato cans and tries to pawn it off to ALL OF US as a legit fight. he is short changing evryone from true boxing fans to the average sports fan on the street. i think im actually over commenting on him to be honest, it seems like beating against a wall. am i the ony one??????
Re: Green calls out Mundine
He isn't short changing me, it's been a long, long time since I've gone to the pub to watch him, let alone paid. If he fought some one worth while that might change.
Re: Green calls out Mundine

I honestly don't know how you can say that Roy is not 1 of the best, most of those names you mentioned should be removed when your talking the best 3 at least that ever visited Australia.
I'll give you this, Johnson, Moore and Jones jnr can all be argued for longer than you and i shall live and anyone that argues fact is completely ignorant, and quite simply here for a shitt stir.
Mate i still don't give a shitt who Heeney is, he fought well before my great grandfather, as stated in the past if I thought he was worthy of study i would of learn't more about him, he had a terrible record, never won a world title, now i ask.....how does this size me up as a know nothing????
Oh and if you want to talk Johnson and Moore I'm down you punk bitch!

And here is the comment I made on a thread where people are comparing 'gingerism' to racism against ethnic minorities.
It maybe a form of prejudice but it is not as serious as racism - sorry - its not! Ginger people haven't been denied the right to vote, been lynched, been enslaved, been maltreated - even on their own continent - even today as you get up - there is a political party in our country with a lot of support who want - no, not ginger people - but black people deported if they get into power.
Anyone with half a brain knows how that reads. The continent that people with ginger hair come from is Europe! Especially North West Europe! The reason ginger people live on other continents is because of immigration from Europe? Are you so thick? (don't anwser it - I know the anwser)
Roy Jones is not in my top 5 of the greatest fighters who have ever visited Australia and if you argue otherwise - you can if you want though remember some opinions are educated and others are not - and why should I debate boxing with a man who has twice my posts but knows less than half of what I know!
Look at your posts - 'punk bitch'? How old are you - you sound 15!

I got shit at school - which I suppose a lot of kids get but what happened when I was 16 is that I nearly killed someone with one punch in a fight outside the headmasters office and I got expelled. ;;-) The kid was in a bad way for a few weeks - nothing to brag about though the kid deserved to hiding if not the aftermath - thankfully he pulled through - I don't why you are bringing up my schooldays seeing as you weren't there. I didn't lose many fights at school it has to be said. (and I did have quite a few - which was the way it was)
