This showed up in another thread below. cotnributor matco posted it. However it's quality struck me as something that deserved to be in this thread. Ok it's not "west coast" but it's "old school" and it's definitely "Top Shelf". Oh and how about the music?

Thanks for posting the video. Though I don't know if Charles would have beaten a prime Joe Louis, I do agree that he is probably one of the most underrated heavyweight champions of all times (along with Larry Holmes). I'm not sure why that is; timing, charisma.....?

The old masters knew every trick in the book because they were taught by older masters who knew every trick in the book.

good morning CAWCB people,Happy anniversary Randy,hope Frank and everyone else who was sick is feeling better now,now I wanna talk boxing anybody know much about Marcos Geraldo sometimes he would show up and give a good effort Hagler and Ray Leonard,and other times he would get beat by guys who weren't in the top 50 now was he a bad trainer or as I read somewhere that he got suspended by the Mexican boxing commision for taking dives,any input would be appreciated

I really don't know too much about Geraldo other than the fact that he was willing. Anyone that was willing to step in the ring with Leonard, Hagler and Hearns deserves some credit. I don't think he had that great a chin and his record will attest to that, he was KO'ed 21 times. I see he knocked out Renato Garcia in 9 rounds. I mention that not because Garcia was great but because he has been the topic of discussion here in the past, primarily because he was a Main Street Gym regular. For the record, Garcia was a decent boxer.

I seen Geraldo beat Muniz live, the Muniz we all knew did not show up that night. Marco was tough, but not so tough that the top guys wouldn't fight him, they would because he was very beat-able....Good opponent

That's true about Marcos.He was suspended in Mexico for going in the tank,but today he is back on good footing. In Tj he has a stable of fighters that are on many cards throughout Mexico.

I saw Marcos fight 25 years ago at the Auditorium in Tj against Maceton Cabrera. Marcos went into a shell for most of the fight. I was sitting with a bunch of buddies who had seen Marcos fight a few times before. We were pretty drunk and between rounds I staggered up to his corner and yelled at him to quit screwing around. The next round Marcos knocked Cabrera out with a body shot. At the time I thought my words had motivated Geraldo. Then after Marcoa got in trouble,I figured the gamblers told him to carry Cabrera for a few rounds.

Anybody remember Refugio Rojas he went against many of the top 130 pounders of the 1980s including a shot at knew champ Julio Caesar Chavez, I saw him one day after his fight at the Showboat hotel he was walking through the lobby of the casino with a guy who appeared to be his twin brother anybody know if the brother was a fighter,anyone know much about Rojas

Another of Jimmy Montoya's fighters, he fought just about all the top fighters of his weight back in the '80's, again a good opponent, nothing more. Yes, he had a brother that also fought, don't know that they were twins and I can't remember his name...

Another of Montoya's fighter who was use as an opponent for just about every top name was Jaime Nava, Frankie fought Nava three times I believe....

Yes I remember Nava a guy missed him with a punch one time he told the promoter he didn't deserve to get paid ,also another guy who was an ''opponent'' for everyone during that time was Fili Ramirez,another guy was Mario ''bucket of blood'' Chavez who died
in his sleep back in about 1983.

I saw Geraldo fight here in Chicago against Caveman Lee. He was riding a real crest having gone the distance against Hagler. Man, they made such a fuss here, what with the Mexican population here in Chicago. They brought in a mariachi band before the fight (in the ring) bedecked in all their splendor. The lead vocal was a dude who entered the ring in a walker. The mexican crowd was in a frenzy, only to see him get KO'd in the very 1st round. In fact, I counted 8 1st round KO's against him in his record. Was he a slow starter or was he just going in the tank? I always wondered how a guy who can go 10 rounds with Hagler, Leonard and Muniz fold up like a deck of cards in other bouts. And for the record, I agree with Frank, that was not the Muniz we knew in that bout. I would see these bouts about 3 months after they took place and recall seeing Muniz with a real spare tire around the midriff. He definitely didn't take Geraldo very seriously.

In Frankie's first fight against Nava Frankie broke his right hand in the fouth round and still stopped Nava in the sixth round with one hand. Btw I have that fight on dvd from the second round on to the the finish.
