Denny Moyer

Post by elmersalsa »

How good was Denny Moyer??? I have never seen him fight, but his record suggests that he fought the baddest mothers out there in the 1960s...Is he good for the Hall of Fame???

I saw Denny Moyer fight a few times when he came to Seattle in the late 60s and early 70s. By then he was fighting as a light-heavyweight and as you know he was probably at his best as a junior-middleweight. He was very durable and had a great chin but did'nt have much of a punch. I would'nt put him in the HOF but there are less deserving fighters who got in.

..if denny moyer had been as good at putting his opponents to sleep as he was the at doing it to the audience he'd have been in the hall of fame long ago. jusy an adequate fighter at a time when the sports was in oneof its drier spells.

Moyer was a good boxer with an excellent chin who traded with a bunch of world champions. It Terry Norris qualified for the hall of fame, Moyer more than Norris deserves to be there. Look at his record and check out some of the people he fought, beating his share.....and he is retired in Oregon living in a mansion overlooking the Pacific Ocean after a second career as a building contractor, last I heard...

..enrique.....in a way i agree with you.....i don't think norris belongs in the hall of fame , just as i don't think moyer belongs in there.

the mediocre fighters who are much too plentiful in there take much of the glow off those belonging.....which dims the luster of the good fighters who do.

("glow off" and "dimming luster" are both saying the same thing, but i like to dazzle az with my prose.)
