2010 Panamerican Youth Championships

Post by locoxelbox »

They started on sunday in Santiago, Dominican Republic and are shown live on http://canal25net.tv/. I recently saw the first bout of heavy favorite cuban Robeisy Ramirez giving a clinical performance beating a puerto rican. Now Dagoberto Agüero from the Dominican Republic is fighting a brazilian.
Why isn´t USA attending? And Canada? This is perfect preparation for the upcoming World Youths.
The Argentine team includes Fabian Maidana, the younger brother of WBA jr welter champ Marcos Maidana. Fabian is of similar style of his heavy handed brother. Also Juan Carrasco, the younger brother of top prospect Gumersindo Carrasco, 8-0 (8 KO´s), is in the argentine team winning his first bout yesterday.

seems like usa does not really send a team to anything unless its like a major event. the only 3 tournaments that were not major was the aliyev world cup and the world cup of petroleum countries. and thats it from what i know. usa cant expect to get better when they do not travel hardly at all

There are very few international youth and junior tournaments today (unless you can afford to travel to Russia, Azerbaijan or Kazakhstan) so it seems strange that Canada and USA don´t participate at the continental championships unless it´s for women.

The last time USA or Canada participated at the Cadet/Junior Pan Ams was in 2004 (they were held in Colorado Springs)

I don´t know if the US ever participated at any Youth Pan Ams. Canada did in 1998.

Since 1994 (I don´t have previous results) the US only participated at the Pan Am Championships (not the Pan American Games) for seniors/elite/open in 2001. Canadas sole participation was in 2009.

At the Women´s Pan Ams USA and Canada have taken part in all editions.

USA did attend a few more and also some duals domestically. In 2009, there was the USA v Ireland duals, USA v Italy dual in Italy, USA v Great Britain duals, USA v Great Britain duals in England, World Championships, and the World Cup of Petroleum Countries. These teams were all selected by USA Boxing. There were also a few international competitions by individual boxing clubs or a group of clubs such as the team that went to Puerto Rico and the other one that went to Poland.

We do need more.
