I happen to be a huge Gatti fan and am well aware of his strengths and weaknesses. Gatti has indeed re-invented himself but only in as much as he is relying on his boxing talent to win fights rather than toe-to-toe brawling.

Do not think for a second that if push came to shove he would not revert back to type immidietly if he was put under serious pressure. Knowing this makes me worried for him because against someone like Cotto he may get outboxed after Miguel has taken his best shots.

A fight with Witter is an intirely different proposition. Witter's work rate isn't actually that high and he loads up more than any fighter I've seen. In this case I see Gatti landing 5 or 6 to Witter's 1 bomb. But these bombs will land and register on Gatti cuz as we all know he can be easy to hit.

The question is can Gatti take Witters power...? I will stick my neck out and say yes. In which case Gatti wins by late KO or by decision just by volume of punches.

If you are Talking about Cotto/Witter, forget it. Cotto is technically superb and has a great chin which again would be tested with Witter. Eventually Cotto would work out Witter's awkward style and catch him on the way in and probably stop him middle rounds.

No doubt all three fights would be pretty exiting.

So there you have it:

Cotto KO Witter round 6 (after 5 spell binding rounds)
Gatti TKO Witter round 10 or (UD) after coming off the canvass and being hurt
Cotto TKO Gatti round 9 (fight of the year contendor)...

And by the way, you couldn't touch what I know about British boxing history, much less the whole spectrum of boxing...again, nothing to do with being an editor...just fact!

That's right, plus James got the other ones. He had the nickname early in his career, when he liked to wade in for a punch up. But he got cut a bit too often though, and switched to the more conservative boxing style that eventualy won him the world title.
Reverted back to the old style when he met Hagler though, and paid the price.

I watched that fight again last night, Minter did try to box, but he just wasn't good enough. Hagler was on fire that night.

I watched 'The best of Marvin Hagler last night,' to remind myself what he was like. A more dominant middleweight champion it would be hard to find, he didn't just beat his opponents, he crushed them. Against Duran, he showed a surprising level of respect, but he did what he had to do to win, and in truth the fight wasn't as close as the scorecards suggested. Duran was no way ahead going into that 13th round.

Hagler was a masterful boxer, people forget that, he just chose to bludgeon his opponents because he was wary of getting skanked out of a decision against Antefuermo. Hagler wasn't one of the chosen few for the Don king rigged Middleweight tournament, and was on the outside looking in for most of his career, so he was damned sure nobody was going to get the chance to steal his belt.

He should have refused point blank to fight Leonard over 12, over 15 he would have done him.
