Hey Uk forum.

I joined this place a week or so ago. Living in China I have to watch the boxing from afar these days/ years. Having said that, we have a fantastic boxing smoker in Hong Kong every year. The police there have set up a charity with the aim of stopping young offenders reoffending. The evening is a black tie affair and there is loads of equal match ups. All of the cash goes to the charity and apparently they have a 90% success rate in stopping the young lads going back to the dark side. If anyone lives this way and fancies a ticket, let me know.

But to cut to the chase, the reason I posted this is because that I have a love for boxing. The only way I get to watch fights is on Sunday lunchtime (CCTV5) or through download (anyone know any good sources for UK downloads??). However, I try to keep as up to date as possible through the boxrec UK news and Kevin Mitchell, Steve Bunce potcast etc etc.
So when I found the boxrec forum, I thought this was exactly what was required. So many fantastic knowlegeable people who really care about the sport. Added to the fact that it seems boxers and respected journos use it too, how could it be better?
So why is it, everytime I log off, the main memory is of many small children fighting? This is the first time i've ever read any sport forum so maybe it happens with all sports, but I think boxing generally and here specifically could widen the fan base with a little more c&c. Maybe this is symtomatic of boxing generally; i.e. operating in its own closed world, showing little interest to those outside the game looking in.

Anyway, that's my thoughts. I look forward to reading the 80% of future imformative comments and ignoring the 20% of 'my dad's bigger than your dad' views.

I'd have to agree with most of your comments

I've been a member and contributor to the boxrec forums since May 2003(this is my 2nd username) and most of those that bring their petty BS to the British forum were not around back then and without looking at things with rose tinted glasses, i'd have to say the quality of posts were generally much better back then.

Having said that times move on and actually i don't mind the occasional spat between posters, can be pretty funny and entertaining.

So how is the state of boxing in China and where the hell did they dig up those stiffs who present the boxing on CCTV5 :)

CCTV5 shows the big PPV events for free, well at least the main events. Still it's the British stuff I really miss!

Just re-read my post again and I didn't mean to come across so negative about this forum. I love reading comments from the fighters and the people in the game. Just think the kids could control their tempers a little more :TU:

Welcome! And again, I largely agree with you. Ignore the nonsense, just take a note of sensible posters and focus on their posts. Who fits in what category will become clear to you soon enough :OhYes:

Carlos Wigan is a good chap, I have known him for years ( back in the day when he could not speak English) - he can give you some good tips.

Some goos fights here ( classics and modern day).

Welcome wizwiz. I find that there's far more good than bad here. I really enjoy reading a lot of the posts. As JamesH said, you can figure out the bad users/posts pretty quickly.

I guess you can't access YouTube as you're in China? They have a lot of fights. Not great quality, but better than nothing.

Absolutely nothing to do with BoxRec or boxing. Go to any forum and it's exactly the same. Even the one at my work has keyboard warriors.

Exactly right. The anonymity of the internet allows people to be far more confrontational and provocative than they would in a different social situation.
Having said that, the overwhelming majority of posters on here are decent, knowledgable and entertaining, so it's not an issue to worry about unduly.
I also think that we're very fortunate to get input from so many people with an 'insider' view of the game.

x2. I live in Thailand and this would be much appreciated too. Next-to no British boxing gets on TV here (save for absolutely highest level, e.g Haye or Hatton, etc), so I have to rely on streams, which a) I don't really like to do because I disagree with them in principle, b) they are not always reliable, and c) they require being up at 4/5/6am. Being able to download a vid or torrent the next day would be blessed. I've tried one torrent site but even with a big fight like Khan-Kotelnik, there were so few seeders that there was no chance of getting such a big file in any reasonable amount of time.

There might be a few penises on here but fewer than any other boxing forum, in my experience.

Is Dogshite still going? Yikes that was unbelievable.

Agreed. This is the only boxing forum I post on, precisely because it's the only one I've found where I can (most of the time) have an adult discussion.
