Ricky Burns v Roman Martinez in Glasgow!

Post by doctorboxing »

Just been announced that Martinez is coming to glasgow for the fight and Burns is going for this rather than fighting Sykes. Should be sometime end of April or beginning of May.

This makes it very interesting, should be a cracking fight.

Maybe April 24. Is that Sky going head to head with Froch and Primetime.

That's brutal!

cant see Sky giving burns martinez a saturday slot unless it has a heavyweight undercard of olympians and some other high profile decent scraps.

Froch Kessler is a superb fight. One that would belong in the top ten that should happen - that si of course if it werent announced already.

Boxrec now have it as Sykes vs Andy Morris for the vacant British Super Feather title..... decent match - I hadn't quite realised that Andy Morris had fought 3 times in 2009. Maybe Crolla might feel a little hard done by given his high profile win over Michael Brodie, but it definately could be argued that Morris is the most deserving co-challenger.

It could be that night, I imagine the undercard would have to be stacked for Saturday night.

It is a choice for the Scottish people and the people who want to save £15.I think it will really eat into Primetime's figures.People on here will just watch both, but the casual fan wont really know the difference between the quality of the two fights

See, I would say froch kessler would hammer burns martinez in the ratings down to the fact Froch kessler should be marketed better - super six, huge fight between two world class oeprators etc.. etc.. but it wont be. Mr Warren could make an eskimo think dubai was home. he already has his column in the Sun, and sky would hammer the adverts in the run up.

To the casual fan there will be only one fight that night.

Hard core fans will buy Froch, but casual observers who would have thought about Froch will watch the 'free' boxing now. I dare say Froch will be on Five live radio as well. Sky aren't in the business of helping rivals so they will try and muller Prime time with an aggressive campaign and build Burns in to the second coming of Willie Pep and Naz rolled into one.

Andy has been an excellent pro so you cant argue it isnt fair . If it wasnt for the cut in the second Simpson fight who know's where he would be now .

You can dispute that he does'nt fight enough but thats about to change the title is coming back to Wythenshawe :box:

I don't think the result of the fight will change, Martinez will win a wide decision in my opinion. The scorecards might be closer in Glasgow, but Martinez will retain his belt. He is too strong and Burns lack of power will stop prevent him from holding Martinez off.

I cant see this being a Friday show to be honest, really looking forward to this one and I think I would watch it over Froch because I like Burns and Martinez is a top fighter.
