Amir has lost a lot of credibility now. Nothing to prove? he has everything to prove especially after getting knockdown recently

He's proved nothing. Yes he got a silver medal but he hasnt actually won anything yet has he? Talk about getting ahead of yourself.

Allegedly must be loving all this. Probably his idea to make the demands! ;)

What the hell was he doing on Superstars anyway?.... I guess we'll be getting the auto-biography before the summer!....   .
I've heard that the behaviour of his 'supporters' leaves a lot to be desired so really as far as the ABA's go good ridance!.
Who ever is advising him must have their heads up their arses!.

Makes you wonder if he still can be bothered to turn pro being a legend in his own groingaurd already...... may just skip that and go into films, records or something eh!.... 8).

I suppose ABA titles are old hat for certain people now, after all he can turn pro and probably pick up a few wbf+ck 'titles' without ever having another real fight or facing anyone under 35.
No more bruised buttocks for Khan!.

PMSL this post is sure filled with Khan Fans!

How the mighty fall, should say in his defence that it seems to be other persons making the decissions for him.

I think he has pritty much screwed up now. There is a Cuban National team coming to box the four nations and if they put Amir on the team i will be outraged!

Who ever goes on to win the ABA's at his weight should repersent the UK.

Naz was class and the same goes for Eubank, its the kind of boxers everyone loves to hate, but we all loved to watch them, mainly wanting someone to smash there big heads in.

Maybe the Khan camp have decided in all there wisdom that they should get rid of his respected nice boy image and make boxing fans want him to destroy himself & go join Audley in hiding where all the medal winners go. :o

Maybe the stardom or possibly that left hook went to his head!

Perhaps certain people are worried he may not win the ABA title and so therefore his value would hit the skids and put a dampner on a Summer turning pro party... better to make him look like a bad boy with attitude ready to tell the ABA's to eff off rather than take a measly 10 tickets for his ever expanding family/entourage. 8)

Surly this is just as bad has a loss.
Offically he will not be ranked as number one in the UK.
He should not be picked for the National team as there will be atleast 4 more boxers higher ranked than him and more deserving!

The plan is to box the Cubans in April. He will surly lose that, but now he shouldnt even get picked, maybe that was his plan! :o

Yes, I agree - if Amir gets selected to represent Britain in the next torunament then it goes to show that money talks in Amateur boxing also.

He has no rights for it.

I think that was definetly his plan , I'd bet money he'd lose to the cuban and at jnr welter possibly stopped , Allegedly would have a harder time selling him then would'nt he .

He hasn't proved anything yet and there are plenty of good fighters around his weight class as a pro.

From today's Guardian...

Khan avoids the Audley approach

Olympic star has plenty to learn after joining Warren

John Rawling
Thursday February 24, 2005
The Guardian

Along with Kelly Holmes and Matthew Pinsent, Amir Khan was perhaps the highest-profile British success story of the 2004 Olympics as he stunned hardened pundits and wowed television audiences by winning the lightweight silver medal at the age of 17.

It was always a question of when, rather than if, he would turn professional and the confirmation of his decision to do so is imminent after he pulled out of the English Amateur Boxing Association championships last night.

The precociously talented Khan was due to fight on Saturday in the quarter-finals of the ABAs in Lowestoft and his withdrawal was supposedly because of a row over ticket allocations for his supporters. But in fact a deal is understood to have been signed with Britain's leading promoter allegedly.

Neither Warren nor Khan was available for comment last night but they have spent months in negotiations, when Khan was also approached by other British promoters. He is rumoured to have been offered a huge cash advance by Barry Hearn and was courted by the former world featherweight champion Naseem Hamed, and American backers also expressed an interest.

Warren was insistent that he would not give Khan the sort of much-criticised £1m contract granted by the BBC to the 2000 Olympic super-heavyweight champion Audley Harrison. Whereas Harrison was free to choose his opponents, Khan's career will be closely supervised, with decision-making over potential fights taken out of his hands. And, although he has learned the sport under the tutelage of his Bury Amateur Boxing Association coach Mick Jelley, principal responsibility for shaping his progress is likely to be handed to the Manchester trainer Oliver Harrison.

Khan has been hyped as one of the greatest talents to have emerged from the British amateur ranks after he surpassed all logical expectation to reach the Olympic final, where he lost to one of the outstanding performers of recent years, the Cuban Mario Kindelán. His mature handling of the media also had him quickly identified as a potential professional star.

Warren said immediately after the Athens games that Khan would be unwise to stay amateur, but the young fighter insisted he wanted to continue in the unpaid ranks for four more years to fulfil his dream of winning an Olympic gold medal. Warren's argument was that there was little point in delaying the chance to cash in on commercial opportunities for the sake of medals.

An audience of eight million tuned in on a Sunday lunchtime to watch Khan's Olympic final appearance, and considerable publicity has surrounded his subsequent appearances. As well as the ABAs on Saturday, officials were hoping he would be available to box for Britain in next month's Four Nations international, a competition which would include Cuba and a possible rematch with Kindelán.

But it seems likely Khan will now have only one further outing as an amateur when his club, Bury ABC, stages a fund-raising night at Bolton Wanderers' Reebok Stadium next month. Thereafter he will fight as a professional on Sky, assuming the company chooses to renew its contract with Warren when it is renegotiated in the summer.

If Khan is to fulfil his potential his skills need to be tightened up considerably. One of Britain's leading fighters, Ricky Hatton, the World Boxing Union light- welterweight champion, said after watching Khan in Athens: "He has a lot of ability but he jumps in with his head too high. Working in a professional gym will help him to improve defensively, which is absolutely vital."

The Manchester fighter urged Khan to make a speedy transition to the paid ranks so that the youngster's impetuosity and amateurish traits would not become too ingrained.

Hatton also turned professional at 18 and has become the highest-paid fighter in the country - indeed, he will be recognised as the No1 in his division if he can overcome Kostya Tszyu at the MEN Arena on June 4. A possible debut for Khan would be on the Hatton undercard that night but, with the fight already assured of being a 21,000 sell-out, Warren might choose to showcase Khan at an earlier date.

The signing will represent a personal triumph for Warren, who has been under increasing pressure from Sky in recent months to stage marquee fights for the armchair audience. He delivered a world heavyweight title challenge for Danny Williams against Vitali Klitschko in December in addition to staging Hatton-Tszyu, and signing Khan will significantly strengthen his hand as the sport's major player in Britain.

Blimey you guys sure turn on Khan for the slightest thing.

It might not be the wisest step in the world requesting more tickets when you are allocated 10 already but we don't know who made the request.

Does this really deserve the "I can't wait to see him flattened" comments... I think not!

Agree, can't see why all the hate - he seems a nice kid and let's face it, we need a few stars in the UK game.

He might not have much to say in the matter - he's so young, he might be getting dicated to by his elder, "wiser" relations on the best way to go.

I notice Bunce said he might pull out in the latest issue of BM - good call.

How many 18 year olds do you know that will do as they are told.

Amir has as much say in what he does as his Uncle or anyone else!

It he wants to Box in the ABA's he can. The camp around him will surly lose power if he goes to the Pro's.

New Gym with a new coach & all reports Mr FW will be in charge.

Its hard to believe all this has happened over ticket allocation. Will he be pulling out of a World title fight because he can’t get a seat for his Dad and string of growing hangers on?

This surly was the plan to join the pro’s sooner than wait until the next Olympics, how can a decision be made over ticket allocation.

The plan was to fight the Cubans in April in an all out Cuban V Four Nations clash. Amir pulls out of the ABA’s making himself drop down the rankings.
Surly the ABA could not pick Amir over the Boxer who goes on to win the ABA’s to represent the UK!

Amir insures himself a clean record by not taking on the Cuban. Maybe he knew it was a bridge to far after is recent scare when he hit the canvas & quite frankly if he was to get Knocked out or even stopped, what would that do to his market value.

There seems to be more to this story than there is. They have just gone about in the wrong way.

Comments like whats the big deal its only the ABA's is a damn disgrace and very disrespectful against the other lads who work there ass off to get there. What they would give to be in Amirs boots for just a day!

I like Amir and he was a breath of fresh air to Amateur boxing, other people trying to run the sport when they only have there eyes on what they can get!

Well it's not exactly unheard of - Trinidad & Roy Jones are two other boxers who spring to mind - in the early stages of their careers these two were pretty much under their dad's influence.

But I agree, the pull out was almost certainly not down to a few free tickets.

Its there in BLACK AND WHITE. Khan is signing with Warren , Warren needs Khan, more than he needs Hatton , simple Hatton fights in June Hattom gets bowled, he still sells tickets, BUT reduced tickets, Hatton is great for now, but he ain't gonna be around, has long has Warren wants to be around

Warren needs a star , and Khans the boy, it would be absolutly STUPID , for Warren to allow Khan to get beat again in the ameteurs Possibly in the ABA's definetly against the Cuban .

Warren has to protect his investment , nothing more nothing less,N ever for the life of me would i ever thought i'd stick up for Warren ,

Buisness is buisness, so here we go again .,

I think it does really. For the boy to think that he is bigger than the ABA's is outrageously arrogant and quite simply he deserves to have his bubble burst in my opinion.
Also it shows a worrying lack of ambition all round.... Khan industries seems more set on getting as much money by the easiest route rather than doing silly things like trying to win ABA titles.
If he is chosen to represent England again it will be a total farce!... his place should go to someone whose head will fit into the arena.

But at the end of the day these shenanagans have already alienated a lot of Khan 'fans' and he hasn't even turned pro yet!.
Plus I'm certainly not convinced that the kid is ready to turn pro yet and if Warren keeps him on a leash for a few years then I think the matchmaking for Khan is going to make the matchmaking for Hatton positively reckless by comparison.
We can probably expect him to have his first decent fight in about 8 years time.
