with all the hype surrounding Roy Jones Junior, people claiming that he is the best light heavy ever, the best pound for pound ever etc. etc. I thought I'd put things into perspective with this question.
For mine it has to be Archie Moore. He could move, could bang (131 k.o's), was durable having only being stopped in 220 pro fights with a record of 185-23-11, he was competitive from welter all the way up to heavy from 1935 until 1963, had great ring craft and never seemed to duck anyone.
I think Archie would simply be too much for Roy, cutting the ring of and ceaselessly throwing punches, stopping him inside five.
Archie Moore v Roy Jones Junior. The greatest light heavy

Moore, KO 5
Roy Jones is starting to become like Mike Tyson.

,,,moore...kayo.....can't pick the round.
some other light heavies who would beat jones....charles (of course)...jimmy bivins...more than a few of the murderer's row of that era....and i wouldn't be surprised if joey maxim would outsmart him and win a decision.

Moore all day, Lloyd Marshall, Qawi, Foster, Conn
Britain's Harvey, Mills and McAvoy...
I think it's been shown pretty clear that if RJJnr fought in a busier time when fighting up in weight was common for MWs & L-HWs, Roy would have had his whiskers scelped much sooner than we had to wait to see.
Great fighter of course, but would not have been as outstanding in a more outstanding time!

I wonder why those that picked Jones have yet to comment.

this would be one hell of a fight.
i do think that jones has enough speed and defensive skills
in his prime to make this fight competitive.
and i see no blowout for either fighter

I think Archie was the better 175lb fighter but I still think Roy could have beat him, at their best. Archie wouldn't beat Roy with that cross-arm defense, not with that many super fast punches coming at him. Moore's straight right hand wouldn't land, because Roy almost never got hit with right hands. A few by Glen Johnson when he got old, otherwise left hands were all Roy had problems with. Moore was outboxed by guys who didn't have the firepower Roy had, it coulda happened for sure.

...although i'm still going with archie, sfw makes the best case for jones. it's hard to say just when archie's peak was, but if we make this at the time he was the light heavy champ, speed was his enemy and rjj had plenty of that. i saw archie live from ringside in 1948 and even then he didn't use a lot of quick footwork. mostly he managed to be just where he wanted to be by cleverness and moving his opponent (in this case oakland billy smith) around just by staying close and shifting his feet. alas, that was very early in my boxing observance years and i'd love to see that one again on film to see if i was looking at it correctly.
