Sugar Ray Robinson has gotten greater an greater the longer he's retired .....
I'm not saying Robinson isn't a great fighter, but in his time he wasn't seen as the greatest ever. Just like Ali in his time wasn't viewed as the greatest heavyweight of all time, except in his own mind that is. I've got a book at home, printed just before Muhammad Ali was banned, where the overall consensus is that he's a good fighter and he should be rated with the likes of Jersey Joe Walcott and Max Baer. And remember, though the seventies brought him superstardom, Ali is supposed to have been at his best in the sixties.

I don't know Wouter. I agree with you on Ali but I think Robinson was considered to be the best fighter alive when he was in his prime. I've heard other guys who were fighting at the time talk about him as if they were in awe. This is true of other guys too but Robinson was highly regarded. Besides, you usually wait until a guy is done before sizing him up against all others. Remember all those guys who proclaimed Tyson to be the best heavyweight ever in 1987-88.
