The truth of the matter is, HE IS BIGGER THAN THE ABA'S.

He's already been to the olympics and won a silver medal, what the fornicate are the aba's going to mean to him?

I'm not knocking the ABA titles, It's just Khan is operating at a different level.

I am becoming less and less certain about how good Khan will be as a professional though. I find it ridiculous that so many people, who really should know better, are anointing him as an automatic future world champion. We don't know yet how he will react to getting hit by full grown men without a headguard and a referee to intervene the minute a fight breaks out.

From the BBC's website....

"Warren is one of several promoters to offer Khan pro terms and he added: "Hopefully they'll look at my track record and choose mine.

"It's not just about money it's what you do in your career. He's got superb talent, I'm sure he can win a world title." "

so when he signs with SN not necessarily for money, but for the glory of furthering his career what should we expect to be saying in a couple of years time? 30-0 undefeated WBU champ selling out the MEN fighting against washed up no hopers from the lower regions of the worlds rankings, being told hes a tremendous talent, continual talk of a big definging fight... blah de blah de blah

It shows a lack of belief in him from his own people that he isn't being allowed to carry on in the ABA'S... it would certainly have done his image good to turn pro with a ABA title, as it is now he has already got a blackmark against him.
Turning pro is an easier option for him, the opposition Warren will find for him will be far inferior to the many of the top amuteur boxers he may have had to face... especially the Cubans.
As for world titles, unless he has a totally glass chin Warren will dig up some 35 year old for him to have a title shot with... 35 yearold mix with a vacant wbu or effoff title and presto new world champ!.
After 20 defences or so he may even have a real fight.
All in all it sums up the shit that is British boxing today quite nicely.
Thanks Frwank!. :x :x :x

I disagree.

Khan is going to be a massive ticket seller. His fans don't care what a few whiteys in the papers or on the internet might say.

The atmosphere at his fights will be electric, you must've seen the Pakistanis watching the cricket, they're mad fot it. It will be very much like that. You'll struggle getting tickets if you're not Asian, though.

When I read all this hype about Khan I really wish it was the same thing in Denmark. We have a 17 old boxer that have beaten Khan but because he is member of a club that is part of allience that doent support the chairman of the federation he is not allowed to box on our national team. And its not a problem with him, all danish chamos except 2 have been exlcluded from our national team, and therfore also Euro, world and olympic games. Because of all this the organization that hands out funds to different sports have cut off all support for amateur boxing (not that it was that big, the total support for men, women and junior national teams were around £45K). This means that our top boxers have/will change nationalty, some (imigeant from Syria and Lebanon) salready have double citizen ships so its not a problem for them, while "ethinc" danes most likely will compete for Germany from now on. To sum it up, you got a luxury problem.

(The truth of the matter is, HE IS BIGGER THAN THE ABA'S)

This is the same disgraceful attitude that Auldly Harrison has against a Brittish Title. His quotes 'he wants to move forward rather than backward'
How can they think they will gain respect from fans with these comments?

They are not better than the tiltle until they have won it.

A medal in the Olympics is a great acheivement and there attitudes show no respect to the boxers that work hard to get even close to such dreams.

We might as well say Man U and Chelsea should not bother to play the teams in the bottom 5 of the league as they will win anyhow just give them the points!

Why go in the next Olympics if you think you can win, its only the Olympics!

All Khans camp have done is to encourage fans to see him get destroyed.

I wouldnt want to be Khan if i was the with the UK squad again. How can he think he will be picked for the National team now if he is to stay Amateur with remarks like that?

You're right Freiheit. Khan is a can't miss. He'll be dynamite in the pro's. Absolute dynamite. It'll be a while before anyone can live with his power.

From the BBC Website

Khan will hold a news conference at Bolton's Reebok Stadium at 1400 GMT, but his father, Shajaad, told BBC Sport it was not to announce turning pro

It's a case of horses for courses. The ABA title means a lot to a lot of people. However Khan is an unusual case in that he has won a silver medal at the games without even having boxed domestically as a senior in the UK.

I cannot think of anyone else who did things this way, and no matter what you say, after beating the best in the world at the olympics, beating some lad from huddersfield just isn't going to be as exciting.

Here we go!!

I cant wait to see what Khan's competition level is like over his first 10-15 fights. After all Warren has slated Audley Harrison to high heavens over his matchmaking so let's see what fodder they get in for Khan.

I can see another Kevin Mitchell happening, 10 plus roadsweepers for a start off.

Really??? And being badly hurt in the ABAs and not being able to stop any opponents at light welter makes him a 'can't miss' with 'nobody living with his power'....

He will probably do well, but definitely there are question marks.

I think the whole 'ticket' excuse is ridiculous. I think they saw the ABAs only being able to demote his value when signing as a pro, not augment it....so what if he would win it, everybody would expect him to.

But if he loses....and he has looked more vulnerable.

I think it is a convenient excuse, they probbaly saw a tough fight with Michael Grant and they already decided to turn pro.

I'm betting his first 15 opponents won't have the energy to sweep the road!.

He'll do well probably because he'll have Frwank behind him making sure he has nothing to face. Frwank is excited cause Khan has a ready made rabid fan base who'll be quite happy to watchin him spend the next 5 years beating up aging midgets and this at a time when it looks like the Hatton bubble is about to pop!. Really you have to hand it to Frwank... he could teach King a thing or two, but all in all its a shoddy shitty affair.

Warren couldn't teach King anything, other than how to annex off the shitty WBU titles.

I am sure he is being advised to turn pro now, his team probably thought an ABA title to go along with the silver would maybe put an extra zero onto the already inflated sums that have been mentioned.

Regardless of some thinking he`s bigger than the ABA it would still boil down to him emphasising he`s the best in the country and that is something that can help you sell for the best price.
But after his last three showings, dropped on his arse heavily, badly blooded nose and boring points win( he did not KO the guy) his people now see the price may well go down the longer he waits.

I like everybody else on this forum raved about him in the Olympics, he done excellent; the pro game though is very different for many reasons.

I am just thinking is there still that amount of money about in the game? He’ll be after a fortune for all his early fights and his opponents may just ask for that little bit more.
All the TV stations are losing interest in the game and even Sky seem to be less interested, so where will the money come from to accommodate Khans over inflated self worth?

Ricky Hatton gets a fortune because he`s a great ticket seller, due to him being a very, very exciting type fighter.
Calzaghe also gets well paid, but for his biggest fights has to fight away from Wales, I doubt he earns what Ricky does, and for good reason I must add.

Now we come to Amir Khan, his style so far is not one punch destruction like a Hamed, or a busy style like Hatton, he does his best when he boxes and this doesn’t sell tickets the best.
Some moron brought up the racial side to selling tickets but I do not see this myself, some Asians may like their boxing but it will never draw the same as cricket as he said.

Amir Khan does not deserve all the critism some have added on this thread but then again I feel he does deserve some of it.
The massive sum the amateur game gave him to stay amateur should have sweetened him enough to keep his mouth shut, especially when almost all the other boxers in his category were fighting for free.
Do all amateur boxers receive 10 free tickets also??

At the end of the day its all about the money Khan will be able to generate for his promoter. Khan + a couple of thousand Asian fans = a nice little earner for a good few years for Frwank. He probably see Khan as his retirement fund. With the opponents Frwank will dig up kHAN will have to be pretty crap or else hit the crack to avoid picking up one of those wonderful wbu or what ever titles.
Happy days!...

I guess I'm the moron. Thanks  .

Asians stick together and get behind their own. They were out in force to watch him at the Guild Hall, Preston (I was there) and I see no reason to see why this will change when he turns pro. He will get a load of tickets to sell for every fight (like all Sportsnetwork fighters do) and he, or more likely his family, will sell them in their community. Why's that moronic?
