you have to give props to quigley, who was game as fornicate to go in at short notice, but given he had plenty of notice to fight smith (shoulder injur or not), he didn't cause any damage to smith, whereas he beat dodson, regardless of dodsons performance.

it was documented quigley couldnt run due to an injury before dodson which explained why he had no urgency & coasted.
dodson was preparing for the fight of his life v maggee which he probably didnt fancy anyhow.
i believe quigley could only punch with his right 5 weeks before the fight with smith.

According to Quigley himself...he said he had no legs in the Dodson fight due to a knee injury, which also stopped him from doing any running leading up to the fight. He said that was the reason for his tactics against Dodson i.e sitting on the ropes - Basically cause he couldnt move! He said against Paul he has his legs now so people will see the proper Tony Quigley. His words not mine. I think he maybe expected Paul to come with similar tactics to Dodson and bull forward...hence him being able to use his legs and box...picking Paul off on the way in. Thats where the tactics came into play imo

As he wasnt with Hayemaker, think Maloney/Steve Woods let him fight on the bill as a favour, might be wrong like. Then shortly before, Paul Davids English title fight fell through, think he may have been due to fight Joe Ainscough, again could be wrong but im sure the board scuppered that one, so Quigley stepped in. Then the Dodson fight fell through, Brian Magee getting injured so Quigley stepped in again (think they offered it to Quigley rather than David as an all scouse battle in Liverpool would keep the bill alive, as there was only a week or so to go before fight night). Think Quigly deserved a lot of plaudits stepping in at such short notice, showed his bottle and self belief.

there's so many way's this fight can go, i can guarantee dodson will not charge at smith, but will want the ring centre & for smith to be dillegent & give him the ground & time to find his hooks & more importantly his confidence.
i hope smith dont fall into this trap,he's jab was effective & good v quigley who is a tricky & slick operator & not easy to hit paul should be able to put more meat onto the jab to get dodson covering for the body onslaught which will stop him in 5-6 rds. smith can bash dodson up but if he gives ground & respect it could be a extremely hard night.

Paul Smith defends his British super-middleweight title in an all-Liverpool showdown in Liverpool later this month against former champion Tony Dodson.
It promises to be a cracker.
Smith won the title from Tony Quigley in another Liverpool derby last October before a 6,000-strong crowd. It went to split decision but the fight never really came to life as the pressure of the occasion affected both fighters. Now, with the win behind him, Smith ought to be a different fighter, while Dodson, the vastly more experienced man, knows how to handle these sort of occasions and featured in a much more exciting contest with Quigley in Liverpool last March before Quigley’s great strength finally caught up with him in the 12th and last round.
It gives Smith an edge.
Dodson won the British title back in 2003 with an 11-round stoppage of Northampton’s Allan Foster, who was treated for exhaustion afterwards, but picked up injuries in the following years and had the misfortune to face Carl Froch when he was fit again and suffered a three-round knockout. He came back with a winning run to secure the Quigley payday and fought quite brilliantly to build up a lead going into that fateful final frame, when Quigley dug deep and overwhelmed his tiring fellow Scouser.
Quigley would argue that his body shots dug the foundations for his sensational victory (Froch finished Dodson with a body shot), and Smith is a particularly good body puncher, strong and relentless if a little slow. Dodson is the quicker, sharper man – but you wonder how much Quigley has taken out of him, physically and emotionally. It was a case of so near yet so far for the heartbroken Garston man.
Smith, 27, is no world-beater but he beat the man who beat the man and looks stronger and fresher than the 29-year-old Dodson, who stands a puncher’s chance at least.
Nevertheless, Smith must be the pick.

i think dilks done well,well done mate you stepped up to the plate and challenged for the commonwealth title which involves more countries than just britain and the way the british super middleweight title is going you may aswell call it the liverpool title what happened to magee? thought he was fighting the winner of dodson vs quigley? personally i think dilks will give smith and dodson problems he is a well schooled boxer and can cause anyone in the top 10 domestic problems
