I love the old ageing thing. Used to have Prince Naseem Boxing on PS1 years back (not the best game but fun) and managed to keep my guy world champ for years. By the end of it one punch would put him down so I'd have to try and outbox the fuckers without taking any leather. Now thats more realistic.

*barks like a seal* ha ha very good.My T Sharp wrote:I like the strategy element of this game.
Sugar Shane is taking on Ricky at a fairground, knowing that the smell of burgers and hot-dogs will prove a big distraction.
To the guys concerned about the lack of official old time fighters - this new one has an unbelivable 'create a fighter' mode. You can morph the faces into almost infinite permeatations, so you can create whoever you want this time.
I think I'll create Tyson & Shavers first and see who falls first

Yeah but you cannot give them all the attributes or the fighting style of those fighters. And anyway, that is part of what you should get with the game.
On the old Fight night 2001, i managed to create and train up a pretty good Tyson type fighter, really fast with the uppercut as his special punch, and a double hook special move. He was pretty fornicating hard to beat.

who buys computer games mainlty bout 80% of the market. 12-20 year olds.
I'd be interested to find out where you got that statistic from J. I remember it being in the news and it being seen as a quite big deal in the last year or 2 when the number of adults buying consoles and games for themselves exceeded the number bought for children.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Also, the playstation demographic is more like 14-30 year olds. Games are no longer just the plaything of teenagers.
Nintendo probably have a demographic more in line with what you are talking about.
I simply can't trust myself with a PS2. It will suck up the little remaining freetime in my life and more. It's mightily tempting though.
I was a slave to Super Mario Kart for months about 10 years ago. I can't go back to that.
Still, 1st place - 150cc Rainbow Road - no-one can take that away from me.

Yes, the playstation changed the demographic target market forever. It was the first console with an adult ad campaign which directly targetted at the same people who bought 'lifestyle' products and actually had a trendy profile.
Games are very much mainstream now, and the people who spend the most on them are going to be the same people who spend the most on albums.
I used to be nuts about games, but I was more of a PC gamer than a console gamer, always liked stuff like Civ2, Age of Empires, Pirates etc.

You can do that in the first game, I created extra opponents, George Foreman for instance (who kept battering the shit out of me) only thing was you had to load them up before you started a career with another boxer in order for them to appear in the rankings.jamesmcdonnell wrote:
I think what they should at least do, is offer downloads of extra fighters, or, let you create fighters from scratch without having to build them up.

No just go to "My Corner" and create boxer you can give them any stats you want.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yeah, but the problem is you have to actually go through a career with them in order to build up all of their stats, what you should be able to do is just to set all of their stats up and save them as an opponent.
I wonder if there's a cheat mode which lets you do that, there must be.

Got it today
I also posted this on the Current Scene and thought I'd let you guys know too in case you're interested...
I had pre-ordered the game and was lucky enough to get it delivered today. I've just been fooling around in exhibition mode and with the create-a-boxer so far. Here are some first impressions:
-The gameplay is at a slower pace, which is a good thing because it makes the fights more tactical.
-The graphics are outstanding, a big improvement over the original, which was already good.
-Having a "real" ring announcer and play-by-play guy makes the presentation much better
-The create-a-fighter is outstanding in terms of appearances. You should be able to create a decent likeness of just about anyone
-Disappointingly though, the depth of the ratings has not really changed. You cannot rate a fighter in certain punches, and the fighting styles are still limited to power/speed/balanced
A funny thing happened in my last fight. I used the create a boxer to make a young George Foreman and fought him against John Ruiz, also made with the create a boxer. In the second round I was just testing the controls when I accidentally made Foreman viciously head butt Ruiz, putting him down for the ten count without the ref calling a foul. During the replay, the announcer actually commended me for the move .
I'll try some of the other modes out later. If anyone has any questions about the game, post them here and I'll try to respond.

One thing which seems sadly to have been lost from the days of knockout kings is the 'best punch' feature, which allowed you to select one punch as your speciality punch.
Sadly without this, it makes most of the fighters pretty much the same when you create them as opponents.
Although it's great that you can change the appearance to whatever you want, it's more important to be able to customise their abilities more.
There should be more stats I think than they have at present. For instance speed should be broken down into handspeed and footspeed, whilst agility should govern how quick you can change direction and bob and weave.
Have they also done away with the pretty limited height variations they had in the last version? It annoyed me that you couldn't have a heavyweight taller than 6' 5", especially as there are several fighter well over that height these days.
Can you alter the reach etc of your fighters?
I do wish that they wouldn't allow you to train up chin and cuts too, it's so bloody stupid.
Is Klit in the new version?

You cannot change your reach, just your height.
