Andy Morris vs Gary Sykes Tomorrow *Spoilers*
This fight has flown under the radar. Suprised to see the bookies make Sykes the favourite. I've never seen Sykes fight but his only win of note is Crolla whilst Morris looked like he was going places a few years back. He lacked a big punch but has great footwork and I thought he was great to watch. He then had the first unlucky loss to Simpson and was destroyed in the rubber match, then dropped of the map for a while - due to injuries I believe. Despite never having seen Sykes, I'm taking Morris in this. I think he was really tight at the weight at featherweight and if he can get his confidence and form back, I could see him becoming European champion.
Thoughts? Also could anyone provide some information on Sykes?

"Leisure Centre, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom" - anyone got an address for this?
The Huddersfield Sports Centre is HD1 1TW but I am wondering if it is the same place.
Also what time is the first bout?

Re: Andy Morris vs Gary Sykes Tomorrow
I loved watching Morris when he was on the way up, real good style to him.
Was shocked when Simpson walked through him in the rematch, he was never in that one.
Since then its been a slow comeback, Andy looked pretty good in his last fight, so hopefully he's now back on track, in body and mind.
Sykes came in 10oz over the weight limit today, after an hour he came in a pound under the limit. So looks like a slight miscalculation by Sykes.
I'm going for Morris on points, he has the experience and i think he may win it over the last couple of rounds, it'll be close though.

Not too bad its bascally town centre. Which reminds me I have a few hours to get my hands on some tickets for me & my old man!!!
Re: Andy Morris vs Gary Sykes Tomorrow
Andy will win this fight.Given that they are of the same age he is the more experienced of the two.He is much better suited to the higer weight devision and has looked sharper and more powerful in his last two fights. Sykes has not been tested over a 12 round fight against a higher class opponent.
Its good the bookies are favouring Sykes. Gives me better odds Andy to win TKO

I was at the fight and I had Andy win it by 2 rounds .
I had an idea that it wasnt going his way when I noticed Barry Hearn with a big daft stupid grin before the result was anounced .

why would Hearn care if Sykes took it?Rockys gum shield wrote:I was at the fight and I had Andy win it by 2 rounds .

I was on press row and everyone scored it independently and all, bar a single Shefflied journalists (good guy btw) who a had it to Morris by one, thought that Sykes took it. I had Sykes winning by at least three rounds. Morris simply didnt throw enough leather in my book.

i thought morris did enough as well.
aggression tends to win the day though.
particularly in close fights.
which that admittedly was.
i think the judges have got it wrong virtually every week on friday fight night this year so far.

Re: Andy Morris vs Gary Sykes Tomorrow *Spoilers*
I had Morris 7-5 ahead I thought early he boxed very well and looked very well disciplined. He was making Sykes miss and making him pay for it but in the middle and late rounds Sykes engine, desire and will to win took over I gave him a few on a role to tighten things up then Morris came back with his own desire and will to win matching Sykes and sometimes even pushing him back. It was one of those fights that could of gone either way and I wouldnt of moaned both gave it there all and couldnt do anymore. A very good FFN (excpet the undercard, I cant stand Tyson Fury
)
