The Accuracy of Bobby Barnes Record in Question.

Post by DanMuscato »

I came across the record of a Lightweight, Buffalo, NY fighter by the name of Bobby Barnes here on Boxrec.com who's listed as having a bout with Jose Torres on Apri l 1,1961 as well as Blair Richardson on May 2, 1961 & again on May 15,1962.
My question is how accurate is this and can anyone vouch its accuracy. I have have what I thought was his complete record, where he turned pro in Sept. 1949 and was believed to have retired in mid 1955 after his bout with Angelo Brisci.
While it's not impossible for him to have fought these bouts I fing it hard to believe he had a bout with J Torres some six years after inactivity. Even though these last three fights were recorded as losses There is bo record of activity from him in the Ring Record Books between Jun 14,55 and his bout with (of all people) J Torres in 61, How could he have been worthy of a fight with Torres? His name is in the 1962 RRB listings (in the back of the books listings) but a record cannot be found anywhere in the record book.

I have created another record for the two Richardson bouts, and the one for Torres. Quite often the record of two or more boxers, with the same name will all be put on one record until someone finds a complete record and can sort them out. Check out the fun you could have with Jose Lopez. BTW welcome to Boxrec.
