I have to say that the boxrec database has really helped a new generation appreciate Ezzard Charles.
Many of the boxing books that people read as an intro to the sport talk about his HW reign and the fact that he was a LHW who moved up. He was, quite wrongly, for many years thought of as the guy in Louis’s shadow and then the guy who fought valiantly but in vain against Marciano. With his entire record posted on boxrec we can see just how much he achieved even though most is not on film.

I thought the same thing when Mosely was on top of his game
around 97-02 I was a big SMM fan. And I always thought they
looked alike.
I have always been a fan of Charles. When I was 12 I dug up
an old beta tape my grand father had of Charles-Marciano 1, Charles-Louis
and Charles-Walcott HL ( I forget which bout). Charles, Hearns,
Holmes and Tyson were the guys I first remember about boxing
as a kid thanks to my grandfathers old tapes.
I liked to watch Charles, even though the quality of film was poor.
I remember thinking as a kid, that he had a really cool name
as well.
I would love to see Charles vs Basora fight. I always thought that he did not have the body frame to be a heavyweight. Great fighter with solid wins on his resume. Too many loses at the end of his career, some fighters simply don’t know when to quit.
