Re: Onikeke pulls out of April 9 show
Here we go again with Heath Ellis. This has followed the usual pattern for Ellis, an opponent no one expected to actually fight him, only to be replaced, no doubt, by another asian fighter with a poor record. This guys camp are now serial offenders.
Re: Onikeke pulls out of April 9 show
I watched Ellis come up through the amateur ranks and have seen most of his pro fights. I've said it before and I'll say it again, an entertaining, perhaps exciting domestic fighter, but nothing more.
I think we all know Onikeke would have been way to much for Ellis's limited ability.
This announcement comes as no surprise to me as I believe Ellis's camp had no intention of the fight ever happening.
I hope they prove me wrong.

Re: Onikeke pulls out of April 9 show
I thinks it is a shame for Heath; Onikeke would have been a decent decider or shaper or revealer for Heath, and for the public fans to settle their private and public perspectives of Heath. Onikeke might have been able to wear many of the flurries from Heath's rapid blevies of punches. Onikeke may have had the experience and nouse to just think to take one step back from Heath's onslaughts, or to actually bend at his waist and duck Heath's incoming missiles, or to make decisions on some clever return deliveries to unprotected targets, I think. This would have then placed Heath in a stituation for fans to then truly assess the product. In everyone's head, we are still wondering, is Heath the real champion prospect in the making? or is he the potential champion protected by cotton wool? Will "they" just ship some dud over, where Heath can do his flashy things and prove only again, that he is able to hit the floor to ceiling ball real fast, and with the greatest of aplomb? (No one that Heath has fought yet, has really put him on the back foot, it would be interesting to watch how Heath can handle this pressure.)
I understand the pressures of picking the right fighter; picking someone that will not knock down the tower that you are trying to slowly shape and build into a great building or monument; I do understand that this is always most and very difficult; boxing managers/trainers, rightly, do say often, that "fans - can go and get berooted, they are not the important factor in steering the boxer on his journey to obtaining a title belt" (of any significant standing); but then, on the other side of the coin, is a boxer's own mental confidence - his own self belief of where he is actually "at", this is truly essential; but this self-belief needs evaluation and verification which then provides a credibility in the boxer's aquired self belief. The proof is in the boxer's eventual eating of real pudding; you might not be able to eat this pudding if you have had far to many fairyfloss snacks before that big pudding.

Bit hard to predict an injury. Unfortunate.
Re: Onikeke pulls out of April 9 show
Steve Maxwell is the replacement, a fighter who has 2 upset wins on the trot against Mathew Paulley and Jimmy james and of recent just knocked another bloke out.
He will get his chin tested here and i predict Heath to be knocked out.
