Zappas fight fixed!

Post by adnileb »

I'm a fan of Lennys but when you have bias decisions with his promoter backing it, you wonder why boxing is on the decline to an extent. Tommy and the corner were very unprofessional and unorganised. too much panic from what I saw...

Really!!! Do you think they thought it would be to Zappa's advantage to let a powerful puncher come in over weight??

I think the 2 judges scoring cards at 116-111 were off but the fight being fixed is a bit extreme.

the first 5 rounds were Zappa's in my opinion 2 being very close but as most would agree that happens regulary, if a fighter breeched his contract and couldn't make weight he shouldn't be given the close rounds, 6 through ten were Angulo's and 11 and 12 were again very close and again those rounds shouldn't be given to a guy who couldn't make the required weight.
Factor in the 1 point deduction and it's hardly an argument for a fixed fight.

I hope Zappa takes a long look at this fight as it's a massive learning curve for the very young fighter.
I hope team Zappa don't allow him to keep fighting blokes that are overweight as his first fight in the states was against a guy who came in at welterweight and then this fight.

I could of given the fight to either fighter, but as i've suggested in a couple of other posts it's the weight issue that cost Angulo any favors from the judges, 114-112 was an accurate account of the fight. But that is hardly a fix imo.

The most truth I heard during that fight was Angulo's trainer telling Fernando "we need a knock out to win this fight". But it was interesting hearing all three Showtime commnentators go against the Showtime fighter and say that Angulo was taking Lenny to school.

When the ref deducted a point without a warning, for punching after the break...even though the punch didn't land and had nothing on it...it was obvious Lenny was being looked after. 116-111 twice just proved that he only had to stay upright to get the nod. His team knew it too...that's why they celebrated the victory before the cards were read out.

I thought Angulo just nicked it but Zappa has a great heart for a young kid, hopefully it won't be his downfall in the future. He seems to cut and swell very easy aswell, reminds me a bit of Gatti. Criticism of Angulo not making the weight is a bit unjust, he took the fight at 12 days notice and never had a proper training camp. Zappa's corner were terrible last night, they were so disorganised when he got back to his stool and the head trainer spent more time shouting for wet towels, mouth guard etc than actually talking to the fighter. Are they usually so hyper in the corner?

What a great comment. "Best prospect australia has seen?" Really? Bigger than Fenech, Rose, Green, Mundine, Briggs......to name a couple.

Maybe best prospect right now, but that's about it.

"Bigger than Tszyu"? I guess so, with the right diet and weights routine.

Seriously mate,
That is utter nonsence. As a judge we are paid to call a fight as we see it. Never would someone not making weight be an issue in scoring.

I havnt seen the fight to comment on the scoring.

I think Lenny is a good fighter, but to say he is the best prospect Australia has seen is stupid   .
I think Tomlinson is easily as good prospect at the moment, Also Omotoso.

He may go on to do big things, But i dont think he will pass guys like Kostya, Jeff, Lionel, Curruthers, Famechon, the list is endless.

Thanks for the clip around the ear there Ben K, and i appreciate your insight, I'm sure it isn't a talking point amongst officials, and must seem absurd.
But i simply believe and have always believed those who don't make weight are frowned upon.
Why should one bust his ass off to make weight and drain himself and the other not make the weight.

There's no science to it, but it defiantly seems to happen to a lot of fighters that don't make weight.

Half the Bohul team get fights at short notice, weigh more than there counterparts and can dominate and still lose t6he fight.
