Re: where do people rate jack root?
He just fought Hart for the vacant title, Jack never had any legitimate claim to it.. Root claimed himself Light heavyweight ruler and then he got whipped. I don't rate him at all to be blunt about it.
Re: where do people rate jack root?
Jack Johnson said Root had the ideal left jab.
But what did he know.

Re: where do people rate jack root?
The fact that granberry saw jack Root fight tells a lot. If he is between 115 and 140 years old, I'm impressed.
I've never fell in line with the opinion that everything older ruled. Root didn't get a whole lot done. I've never put together an extensive Light heavyweight list. But i can't imagine he would crack the top 75 or so. Maybe squeeze in a top 100.

I saw Jack Root fight George Gardner.
I have owned that film for years.
Obviously Saad hasn't seen Root fight
and doesn't even know that films of Root exist.
Par for the course on an internet boxing site like this.
Re: where do people rate jack root?
I also have a film of Corbett fighting Fitzsimmons in 1897.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:The fact that granberry saw jack Root fight tells a lot. If he is between 115 and 140 years old, I'm impressed.

It is a pity that posters like Sadd are not aware of such films.
Saad's post is a very sad indicator of the level of posters on internet "boxing" sites.

Re: where do people rate jack root?
So you've seen Root knocked out once. Where do you rate him? Are you even capable of discussing a simple topic? You're a bitter individual.
Re: where do people rate jack root?
Saad exposes himself as being ignorant of the existence of any films of Root.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:So you've seen Root knocked out once. Where do you rate him? Are you even capable of discussing a simple topic? You're a bitter individual.
And all he can do is offer ad hominem attacks in reply.

Re: where do people rate jack root?
To say he doesn't rank in the top 75 light heavyweights is absurd. The guy beat Kid McCoy, George Gardner, Jim Flynn, Marvin Hart, Frank Childs, George Byers and drew with Tommy Ryan.
He definitely makes my top 40 175lbers of all time and possibly top 25-30 . . haven't put a list together that high.
But ignore Granberry's attacks . . .I'm shocked he's still here when a third of the threads around here are locked b/c of his propensity for conflict.

Light heavyweight is a stacked division, 25-30 would be absurd to me. I wouldn't rate Root over Marvin Johnson.

How can you "rate" Root when you know nothing about him?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Light heavyweight is a stacked division, 25-30 would be absurd to me. I wouldn't rate Root over Marvin Johnson.

You seem to be obsessed with Ali. Or do you still call him Clay down at the meeting hall?

he's obsessed with many things, unfortunately talking about Boxing isn't one of them. Pretty incredible he hasn't been banned. I'm not sure why I don't have him on ignore, he really is so off the wall that it isn't even irritating. So i have to rate Granberry behind broughton, Irene & Mr Untouchable for suck. But he is definitely in the top 5.

Not a word about Jack Root from collins, who only has disruption and trashing of the threads of others to offer.

The thread went down hill when you disrespected SaadOffTheDeck.

collins has his whole crew here now to trash this thread.

Maybe if you didn't disrespect your fellow posters you would not feel the sting of their ire.
