Re: Ricky Hatton?
Hatton attracted the fans himself. In the early days,he wasnt a big ticket seller at all.It was a mix of an exciting style and engaging personality(then) that did it.It did him no harm putting on a great show in front of 20,000 at the M.E.N on the Tyson undercard, too. So all the credit for Hatton getting the superfights must go to him,not his fans. Also, just because he has become annoying over the last few years shouldnt change the fact he was an excellent fighter and genuine world class.

Sums it up perfectly, esp the 'annoying over the last few years' bit!mickey1975 wrote:Hatton attracted the fans himself.

Fair enough, but when you have seen him doing the same jokes for a decade it wears a bit thin.A bit like Only Fools and Horses repeats on UK GOLDSpud wrote:I dont think Ricky is annoying - just some of his team!!!mickey1975 wrote:Also, just because he has become annoying over the last few years shouldnt change the fact he was an excellent fighter and genuine world class.![]()

Re: Ricky Hatton?
yeah, sorry, meant Hatton. he was THE man at 140 when he fought Mayweather, and also Pacquiao - so it was anatural fight for both when passing through the divisiondiggler wrote:do you mean hatton
Re: Ricky Hatton?
i dont think hatton fought the best at 140
Re: Ricky Hatton?
maybe not when 140 was strong and hatton was "upcoming" - or treading water, you decide, but when he faced off with Mayweather and Pacquiao the eliete at 140 had gone to 147. he was the man at 140 at the time of both fights.
Re: Ricky Hatton?
i think he fought some good fighter but alot of his wbu defences was 1 sided affairs and that wasnt because hatton was that good
Re: Ricky Hatton?
Cant argue with that, but nobody ahd him as #1 in the division whilst he held that trinket, he graduated on the night he fought Tszyu.
Mayweather Hatton was the fight everyone wanted to see. hatton was seen as a genuine threat mainly due to the only chink that had come to the fore in Mayweathers armour was in his first fight with Castillo. hatton was seen as "a bigger stronger pressure fighter".

Re: Ricky Hatton?
According to The Sun today,Hatton has packed in.
Re: Ricky Hatton?
It seems you either like or don't like Ricky.
People are entitled to their opinions.
No matter how good Ricky is/was I think that it will be a long time before somebody else comes along and captures the British public's imagination like Ricky. The song does say it all. "There's only one Ricky hatton"
Lets face it Boxing is on the decline and we need more people like Ricky Hatton to keep the sport alive. As good as they might be I can't see Froch,Khan,Mitchell etc taking his place in the countries hearts and mind.
Few fighters transgress boxing and become a household name like Henry Cooper or Frank Bruno did. Ricky is one of those boxers.
Instead of knocking him shouldn't we be grateful and thank him for keeping Boxing in the general public's awareness for the last ten years and wish him good luck in whatever he does in the future.
Just a thought. Pablo

I actually am in a way glad he's denied this "retirement" U turn talk..... because I think money will entice an eventual comeback and it is a great boost for any potential opponent - if he did confirm a retirement and then comeback.
Re: Ricky Hatton?
Ricky had balls and tried to take on the very best and he was simply not good enough. Not even in the same league. He's proved he was good enough at a very high level. A level most people don't get to. There is nothing left to prove. He was a good fighter but will never be one of the greats.
Re: Ricky Hatton?
