Cotto has to weigh in 3 times
Has anyone here seen anything of Cotto between fights? I mean we've all had a look at Hatton ballooning between bouts, but I can't remember him having any problems making 140. Although he does look like one of the undead on the scales.
I can't recall Cotto looking like he's eaten all the pies, he's always struck me as a fighter who 'lives the life', as they say. I'm guessing he's just bigger framed, and 140 is naturally tight for him. A move to 147lbs can't be far away, surely?

Cotto's obviously still a growing lad - no wonder he's struggling to make the weight.
He does live the life from what I've seen and his level of performance has always indicated that to me, but he looks awful in that picture. Wouldn't surprise me if he's another 'boil-in-the bag' fighter. You know, aka Scott Harrison (all training pics, he's wearing sweat gear) etc etc. They all come a cropper in the end if they don't go up in weight. They all take one trip to the sauna too many and end up losing or looking bad in a 'flat' performance. Seems to be one of boxing's laws and it's a very dangerous, career-shortening one.

Cotton won by 5th round stoppage.

WBO jr lightweighht champion Miguel Cotto scored an exciting fifth round TKO over former champion Demarcus Corley Saturday night in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Cotto, who came into the ring at 157, scored a flash knockdown in round one and hurt Corley numerous times early on. The southpaw Corley fought back gamely connecting with some hard bombs that Cotto simply walked through. Cotto had a point deducted for a low blow in round two. In round three, Corley staggered Cotto with a right hook and stalked the now retreating Cotto for the balance of the round. Corley had a point deducted for a hard shot below the cup in round four. Cotto dropped Corley with a barrage of punches in round five, shortly after action resumed, Corley intentionally took a knee to avoid further punishment and the fight was immediately stopped by referee Ismael Quinones. Corley complained to no avail about the premature stoppage.

watched the fight last night in my NY hotel room
Cotto was very strong but wobbled all over the place in the 3rd. A more determined effort from Chop would have had him in serious trouble
At the end during the interminable Larry Merchant interview, Chop claimed to have "taken a knee" but he was hurt and, although the stoppage was premature, there was only going to be one winner

Thoroughly enjoyed the fight, looking at the result and reading some reports i thought it was a one sided affair but watching via that link (cheers Mr. Selway) i thought the fight threw up some interesting moments. Cotto was badly hurt in the third, Corley must have thought it was only a matter of time as he was dancing around with his hands by his side rather than letting the hands go effectively although Cotto's defensive work was impressive when he was hurt.
The referee was awful, wouldn't go so far as to agree with Larry Merchant that the stoppage was a disgrace but Corley took a knee because he was disorganised rather than badly hurt...the first knockdown in round 5 was more interesting in my eyes, Corley complained vigorously and at my first viewing i thought it was a low blow that dropped Corley...anyone else notice the "body shot" landed so far down that it lifted up the strips on Corley's shorts (skirt!) The ref though was totally out of his depth, even from the final instructions at the beginning of the fight he had to bring the fighters back for more instructions and then lectured Corley in Spanish
Still enjoyed it none the less, a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon
