Witter should fight Cotto NOW

Post by Phenomenal-Nutrition »

Just watched Corley-Cotto and I think Witter should make this fight at any cost. Cotto was out on his feet from a hook that didnt look particularly powerful (although Cotto didnt see it coming) and if Corley was a good finnished/bigger hitter Cotto wouldve been stopped.

Cottos punch also isnt that big he was landing lots of shots on Corley. He was also pretty easy to hit. The accumulation caused the KDs but Corley never looked damaged and wouldve gone the distance and won some late rounds but lost a UD imo.

Cotto was 17lbs heavier come fight night (159 I think) does anyone know Witters fight night weight? I think Witter would be much stronger than Corley and not get pushed around in the same way.

This is a perfect match-up imo unless Cotto just counters away on a Witter that wants to load up all night. But I'd pick Witter by KO, which would put him up there as a BIG BIG player at 140.

Unless Cotto fights Harris this is probably a likely fight. Cotto ducked Harris before so I'm not sure if he'll fight him this time.

I haven't seen the fight yet, but Cotto might have been affected by the weigh in problems. Coming in at 157 means he must have really boiled down to make the weight.

Cotto hould think about moving up if this is what he has to put his body through for every fight.

Just saw it, Cotto is lucky Corley isn't a natural finisher, because he was out on his feet.

We know he can be hurt not, and Witter hits harder than Corley, but I was impressed with how Cotto kept his composure.

I think Corley got winded by a body shot, and then realises he hasn't recovered and takes a knee to get his wind back, legit stoppage, and he may well have gone down again shortly after that.

I think maybe Cotto knew he didn't have the wind for a long fight, and that's why he went in there so recklessly for the stoppage.

james, come on.

That was a terrible stoppage. Disgracefully premature.

Corley was taking a freaking KNEE. When you take a knee, you don't expect to get stopped straight away. He was just trying to recover and it's LEGAL to do so. He got hit low/borderline the first time and the ref ruled it a knockdown. Then he took a knee again without being hit, so he could recover.

I mean, think about it.

Corley has been in the THE BEST. Against Cotto, in cotto's hometown, he get's stopped WITHOUT TAKING A PUNCH.

I don't know about you, but it's the worst stoppage I've ever had the privalige of seeing.

On a lighter note, how much better is the american comentary compared to the British commentary. Stewart and lampley are class and merchant always speaks his mind. Can you imagine Merchant working on Sky for the past few years and not critising Hatton/Calzaghe fights? It was just a big eye opener when I started to think of the difference between that commentary and Adam Smith.

I really didn't see it that way. At first I thought the blow was low, but on looking again closely, it was on the belt line, which is perfectly legal.

I think the referee is within his rights stopping the fight if the guy goes down twice in quick succession, though I personally think it should have gone on longer.

I can totally understand Corley being pissed off.

I also think Cotto needs to move up in weight, he's going to get found out if he continues at LW.

HBO does a weigh-in in the dressing rooms before the fight in answer to the above question.

The IBF remember have a rule that requires you to be within a certain limit on the day of the fight, a couple of pounds, Cotto probably won't fight for that title. Ricky Hatton had to weigh in for his eliminator with Stewart I think was.

I would back Witter heavily if he fought Cotto. He is all wrong for Cotto and I can see Witter making Cotto do another dance and fall on his face.

Hatton on the other hand would get pasted by cotto. No doubt about that.

You think Witter would beat anyone....

Mind you to be fair he could probably give Klitschko a good fight and maybe make him look silly cuz Pound for pound Witter is no. 1... :o

Putting on 17lbs in 24-36 hours sounds impressive. I've just eaten about 20 custard creams and bourbon creams and whilst I feel bloated it's unlikely I'll have put on more than a lb or so. Hopefully.

How does one put on more than a stone in such a short space of time?

A few hearty meals and replacing the fluids in his body. He wont have eaten or drank anything for some time to make that weight.

Most of it will be fluids. A litre of water weighs exactly 1 kilo, or 2.2 lbs. So 6 litres of water would replace al of that.

Of course, that means sweating out that amount before the fight, which is a very perilous tactic. I think the use of isotonic drinks these days makes rehydrating a much more scientific business.

The fight was very interesting, Cotto was badly hurt in the third but managed to fiddle his way through...the stoppage was poor, Corley took a knee and was more disorganised than hurt, i also felt the first knockdown in that round Cotto had caught Corley low. The ref was awful though, indecisive, disorganised and unclear on his instructions...let's hope we never see him again in a big fight.

If he moves up in weight won't he be hit even harder?

Or are you suggesting a bigger weight is his more 'natural' weight and will be more comfortable for him despite bigger hitters?

Don't mean to be crude but I would be visiting the toilet quite a bit if I drank 6 litres of water so how on earth does he hold it in - his body can't absorb it all surely?

Surely he must drink more than that because some would leave his bodsy no matter how weight drained he was for the weigh in.

Being weight drained reduces your punch resistance. Cotto doesnt have a weak chin he's been clobbered in the past by bigger punchers than Corley, I daresay the weight making is the problem.

He should definitely move up to 147.

Of course, I'm not saying you just glug down 6 litres all in one go, most of it would get pissed out.

I#m no nutritionist, but as I understand it Isotinic's are intaken with the water to increase you bodie's ability to absorb it all. This would be done over a long period until the water was reabsorbed into the body.

OK thanks - all clear now! Sounds a bit dodgy to me though - can't be good for the body really.

Sure, it's risky, but the point I am trying to make is that these days fighters have better advice on such matters as the science behind it is a little more advanced.

In the long term constantly draining to make weight is risky, because going into fights having to do so, means there is always a risk you enter dehydrated and end up collapsing or worse getting a brain injury.

i know that the fluids around the brain dry up somewhat if you are still dehydrated, which is of course not desirable.

that may be so but a lot of people dont feel the need to constantly run down another fighter in the process of heralding another, thereby devalidating any opinions you have on the issue, as it you just comes accross as a biased / hating point of view.

come on lirva your not a fool you can work this out for yourself, you constant jibes at Hatton tend to nullify any postive things you have to say about junior, cos no one really gives it any credence anymore mate.

Im not being nasty here Im genuinely giving you a perspectiive on the way your posts come accross.

take it or leave it.
