LETS FINALLY CORRECT THIS YOU RECORD-MEDDLING BASTARDS!!!!!!

Post by overhand_right »

Sorry for the somewhat confrontational thread title, just needed to get your attention.

In his book (and speaking to me personally) Earnie Shavers recalls clearly how he struggled to land "anything clean" on Jimmy Young (RIP) for the first two rds, before finally nailing him in the 3rd and laying him out. In fact i think it was advice he got from Joe Frazier, who used to spar with Young, how to set him up.

Why do we still list this as a 1st rd kayo when it obviously wasn't?

Answers, please.

In Shavers autobiography he has his first fight with Young as KO1 (2.39).

Has anyone else got any views on this?

If you actually READ his account of the fight in the book you will see he recalls it as a 3 rd kayo.

The fight record at the back of the book obviously was put together by some stats guy reading boxrec, not Earnie himself.

obviously shavers is one of many exfighters suffering from pugislista demensia. his poor addled mind cannot fully comprehend the ease that he had disposing of the usually elusive jimmy young in the FIRST round. shavers, in his obvious befuddlement is confusing his easy KO1 over young and his frustrating 10 round draw effort a few fights later. forgive shavers for getting the details and round wrong. though he may indeed be one of the hardest punchers ever, that is no guarantee that he has any superhuman ability to absorb years of repeated blows to the head without severe reprocussions

please, if anyone sees earnie shavers at any boxing matches or strolling with his nurse, don't bring up this matter about his 1st round KO of jimmy young as it will just confuse him more and cause him to be frustrated.

you better change that result back to KO 1 before any of shavers' alert family members sees the grevious "KO3" entry gets upset. god knows they have been through enough with their befuddled sibling.

god bless you in advance for your assured cooperation in righting this wrong. i feel comforted in the fact that by the time i check the boxrec archive it will display "earnie shavers KO1 jimmy young". again, god bless you.
