England 'fans' at Night of the Champions

We had a lot of trouble in Madrid when we played Atletico away in the uefa cup a few years ago, the police were a joke. But that had nothing to do with rival fans.

Yep, I learnt that then. It was completely uncalled for that night. I had always seen United fans getting a smack on the tele and never really cared, anyone smacking an United fan with a baton can't be all bad can they? But it was so aggressive, they just came at people, regardless of what they had done or hadn't done.

And they don't care who they hit either, they'll happily smack a bird or a kid just because they happen to be in their path.

However all trouble at boxing events seems to be attributed to "football fans" when really it's just dickheads who want to cause trouble.

English fans have a bad reputation, so police will be more aggressive to English fans.

I don't have a problem with them being aggressive towards hooligans, I DO have a problem with them acting indiscriminately and violently attacking innocent people which is what the vast majority of English fans are.

What on earth are you talking about? They've already been supplied quite clearly by other posters - do you not think that police hitting innocent people indiscriminately (including women and children) is a huge abuse of their powers and bears no relation to displaying caution?

But surely you should be directing that question at Banjo, not me? The inference in your request for examples is that you doubt their veracity, but surely anyone who has ever experienced or read some of the reports regarding some of the standards of policing on the continent can be left in no doubt that innocent fans have suffered at the hands of police on occasion?

I was in the pub on Saturday and a midget came in and gave two pakistani lads a right mouthfull of abuse. I thought to myself "thats a little racist".

Funny attitude that. I've been going to football all my life, up and down the country, I couldn't even begin to add up how many games. And I have never once felt threatened whilst watching a match. But I worked at the M.E.N during two fights, and there was dick heads every where, drunk and being aggressive in a way I've never seen at a football match.

It's boxing fan snobbery which is spreading like mad, I've never felt threatened at a football match either but had to put up with allsorts of crap at boxing events which is why I never go anymore.

A tiny percentage of football fans go out to cause grief.
I have found the boxing crowd in this country to have greater potential for trouble, especially at the bigger shows.

The last 3 Fwarren shows I have been to have been littered with groups of complete numpties looking for trouble.

Followed England abroad on a few occassions and never seen any trouble.

Tottenham fans got battered by police in Sevilla a couple of years back. Clare Tomlinson was there and voiced her outrage at the time.

It seems like police in certain countries are shown Green Street to give examples of how English fans will behave.

It isn't just English fans either, foreign police forces will do it to their own people, for example a couple of hundred Italians will kick off at a match in Italy and every single person no matter what sex or age is fair game for heavy handed police officers.

I was in the stadium, I can tell you it's true. As much as it pains me to say, the Daily Mail (in this instance) is correct

I read the newspaper report and there was no mention of kids being attacked. I just wondered if anyone had actually witnessed any kids being attacked? I can't see how grown men in riot gear could be actively attacking children at a football match, someone correct me if thats what they saw

The worst was at the Roma v Manchester United match a couple of seasons ago, riot police barged in knocking people to the floor including women and children(not necessarily striking them but heavy handed tactics none the less) a woman had her phone confiscated as she recorded the attacks by the riot police including an Italian officer beating a fan who was unconcious on the ground. Was all over the papers at the time, heavy handed animals they are and apparently they've been worse than ever since an officer was killed at the Sicilian Derby(I can't remember if that occured before the Roma v United match though or after but still they're supposed to be upholding the law not re-enacting the Mussolini days).
