Still have those painted striped donkeys on Revolution Street. With the crime and economy the way it is down there, there aren't as many people sitting on those donkeys. Maybe they'll turn into tacos.kikibalt wrote:I believe James Dickson had one pro fight, got stopped I believe.....THEHAMMER321 wrote:kikibalt wrote:In old Tijuana, 1975

Another Young Actor Dies . . .
They seem to falling left and right. It seems every few weeks or so, a young celebrity falls victim to themselves.
I didn't know Corey Haim personally, but I worked with him when he was a little boy, in his first big film, "Murphy's Romance."
James Garner was in "Murphy's Romance", so was Sally Field. Haim played the son of Sally's charactor.
We went to Arizona on that one, and shot in a little town south of Phoenix called Florence.
I had worked a lot with both the lead actor and actress over the years, two solid pros, and the kid held his own.
An investigation will determine if his death was caused by prescription or illegal drugs?
What's the difference, he's gone.
What an odd life for somebody to grow up in film industry. Balance is a necessity, few child actors have that.
They are pushed by parents who live vicariously thru their children, they are taught to be anything but themselves.
When it's all over they, they have no clue who they are. And Hollywood is unforgiving.
Michael Landon tried to create some balance, and a family atmosphere when we had kids on the set.
Often, Landon was more a parent figure to the kids who played on "Little House on the Praire" than their actual parents.
I think of his interaction with Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson and Patrick & Matthew Laborteau.
Mike didn't tolerate any back talk or bad behavior from kids. Neither did Alfred Hitchcock.
Child actor Billy Mummy (who today is 57) remembers working with Hitchcock.
"I kept moving around when I was supposed to stand still on my mark. Hitchcock walked over to me, leaned over and whispered in my ear, 'If you do not stand still, I will have a grip nail your feet to the floor!'. I got the message and stood still."
The actor told me this a couple years ago, when I was working on a TV production (The Cleaner) featuring his daughter, Lilly.
Wonder who will be next? In Hollywood there is no such thing as "Children".

I never made the connection before but I have never heard anything bad about the kids that worked on "Little House". Michael Landon probably played a large role in that. His legacy continues.
My condolences to the family of Corey Haims.

FOR WHOM THE SCHOOL BELL TOLLS
They fired the principal yesterday. You could kind of see it coming, but I guess yesterday he got the word. It was sudden.
The school is not an easy place to teach. I've said it before. It's a school that butts up almost against the border. I assume most of the kids live across the border. The contrasts between the U.S. and Mexico are dramatic. Considering that 85% of the kids are Mexican ,to get to the root of the problems and fix them is virtually impossible. There are Mexican kids that don't want to assimilate and there is White staff that doesn't want to adjust. Everyone is right and everyone is wrong.
My 1st period class.
"So Martin,how are you doing?"
"They robbed us last night at my brother's electronic shop in TJ."
"How?"
"It was late. My brother closed the shop. We were out front and these guys with masks drove up with a trailer. They pulled out guns. They took everything. Even my brother's car."
"Did you call the police?"
"I had my cell phone. They didn't see me off to the side. I called the police. They wanted a description of what the robbers looked like. I got mad. I think the robbers were working for the cops."
"So the cops never came?"
"No. We had guns too,but they were in back of the store. We couldn't get to them."
"What are you going to do?"
"My dad is pissed. He was a cop in Sinaloa. Saturday everyone is going over to where these guys live. We've seen them in the colonia. We're taking our guns."
After my 1st period class is over.I'm walking down the hallway.
"How's it going Sheryl? Did the principal get your class under control?"
"After he left a student threw a spitwad at me . I pushed the "panic button" in my room. They came over and removed the student."
"I hope it gets better for you."
"I'm on stress medicine. They want to send me to workshops for classroom management."
The bell rung for period 2 to begin. I could see the kids lining up in front of my class. They all seemed very happy.

My dad thought Liston didn't have that much heart. Like your dad,my father thought Marciano walked on water, but he thought Liston was a bully and anyone who could stand up to him would beat him. Clay in the first fight hung in there long enough to get Liston to quit on his stool. In the second fight,Liston just didn't want to be champ anymore. I think the Muslims scared him so he did the flop. And then Leotis Martin put him to sleep after being knocked down by Sonny.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen dies at 69

SALT LAKE CITY – Pro Football Hall of Famer and former television actor Merlin Olsen has died. He was 69.
Utah State University assistant athletic media relations director Zach Fisher says Olsen died Wednesday night at a Los Angeles hospital.
He was diagnosed with mesothelioma last year.
Olsen was an All-American at Utah State and a first-round draft pick of the Los Angles Rams in 1962.
The burley giant from northern Utah joined Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy and Rosey Grier on the Rams' storied "Fearsome Foursome" defensive line known for either stopping or knocking backward whatever offenses it faced. The Rams set an NFL record for the fewest yards allowed during a 14-game season in 1968.
Olsen was rookie of the year for the Rams in 1962 and is still the Rams' all-time leader in career tackles with 915. He was named to 14 consecutive Pro Bowls, a string that started his rookie year.
Olsen was also an established television actor with a role on "Little House on the Prairie," then starring in his own series, "Father Murphy," from 1981 to 1983 and the short-lived "Aaron's Way" in 1988.
Olsen was a consensus All-American at Utah State and won the 1961 Outland Trophy as the nation's best interior lineman. The Rams drafted Olsen third overall in 1962 and he spent the next 15 years with the team before retiring in 1976.
Utah State honored Olsen in December by naming the football field at Romney Stadium "Merlin Olsen Field." Because of his illness, Olsen's alma mater didn't want to wait until football season and made the announcement during halftime of a basketball game.
Olsen was well enough to attend, but did not speak at the event. He stood and smiled as he waved to fans during a standing ovation and chants of "Merlin Olsen!" and "Aggie Legend!"
Utah State is also planning a statue of Olsen at the southeast corner of the stadium.
The Rams also honored Olsen during a game Dec. 20, with a video tribute narrated by Dick Enberg, Olsen's longtime broadcast partner. Olsen did not attend because of his health. His name was already part of the Ring of Fame inside the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis along with other franchise standouts.
He was voted NFC defensive lineman of the year in 1973 and the NFL MVP in 1974, and was voted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982.

Just caught that on the news. In a time when there wasn't steroids and weight lifting programs,I thought that Merlin Olsen was one of the most powerfull men in Pro Football. On top of that he had a bit of a nasty streak. A dominant force.
I'm sure Rick will have some memories. RIP Big Guy

Merlin Olsen, shown in the 1960s, played 15 seasons as a defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams. The St. Louis Rams have confirmed news of Olsen's death.

I'm very sad to hear this. Merlin Olsen joined the cast of Little House on the Praire after Victor French left to star in his own sit-com. When French returned, a year later, Michael Landon created a TV series starring Olson, "Father Murphy." The show didn't last long, and it spread Landon too thin. Mike left the direction of Little House to others as he concentrated on directing Olson's series. As a result, both were soon off the air. Olson was a class act on Little House, a great guy who's tell us stories of his career, etc. Rest in Peace. I believe he was the last living member of the Ram's "Fearsome Foresome".

Merlin Olson vs. Conrad Dobler . . .
When the L.A. Rams would play the St. Louis Cardinals, Merlin Olson would line up with the Cardinal's Conrad Dobler.
Olson told us that if there was one man he'd have liked to have faced in a boxing ring, it would be Dobler.
They were anything but friends.

Among them were three Southern Californians — coach Junior Robles and boxers Paul Palomino and Byron Lindsay, all of whom will be inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame on June 26 at Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City....

See that smile. Think you could beat his ass?
You better know what you´re doing in there. What´s the saying? Forgot more than you´ll ever know. He´s smiling because he´s taking pleasure making you miss, then jumps the left in your face. Ask Mantequilla. Went the distance with Bernabe. El Baby. Mantequilla couldn´t find him. It was the time when Jose would have said,Ötra pelea.¨I want a rematch. No Gracias. This guy made me look bad.
Saw El Baby at the end. In TJ at the Auditorio.. Against a good boy. But the real baby that night wasn´t Vasquez. He climbed through the rops like he had done over a hundred times in a hindred Mexican rings. Scuffed his shoes in the rosin box,and you guessed it,smiled that smile to the crowd. After ten,the young fighter knew he.d been schooled by one of the best. They never fought a rematch. Losing to El Baby once was enough.
As I was typing,I heard in back of me a group of young people watching the television. I heard the announcer say,¨Dream Team.¨I never stopped once to look over my shoulder.

I guess Olsen just didn't like getting kicked in the head.Rick Farris wrote:Merlin Olson vs.
-Rick Farris
As I recall, Olsen got a measure of revenge on Dobler in his TV series "Father Murphy." If I remember correctly, in a graveyard scene, Olsen had the crew put Conrad Dobler's name on a tombstone that was prominent in the shot.
Not long after we moved to St. Louis, Dobler was on a sports special, and talked about Olsen's famous hatred for him. He claimed that Olsen hated him, not for the rough stuff, but because Dobler was able to psych Olsen out and made him look bad. According to Dobler, the rough stuff and insults took Olsen out of the team game plan and made it a personal, one-on-one battle. Dobler said once he’d done that, Olsen was unable to perform at his usual high level. And for that, Olsen hated him - according to Dobler.
