okay as there is alreadfy a thread i'll use this one

a decent show at wolvo yesterday, I thought

it would, though, be the kind of show that some (i think rhino for one) would see as indicative of boxing's problems

in that all the 'home' fighters got pretty much 40-36 cards across the board (there were i think two cards which gave the away fighter a drawn round)

personally i thought a couple of the fights were a bit closer and better than the 40-36 type cards indicated

Jonny Greaves, one of my favourite journeymen pros, gave a good show, Sid Razak is ever-reliable in that sense

First team are trying to bring on their newer local fighters to replace the likes of Dean Harrison in the ticketselling stakes(who doesn't seem to sell nearly as many tickets nowadays as he did say 2 years ago)

Rob Ghent is a really neat boxer, Jamie Ball similar, neither look like they can break an egg tbh but hey....

a couple of the newer lads (Wilkes Truman and Brookes) do seem like they have a bit of something to them anyway, fought at quite a high pace and made for fairly action-packed 4 rounders

in the main event Dean Harrison showed KO power for the first time in ages, absolutely flattened Lawler with a peach of a right hand. Lawler really throws wide looping telegraphed shots and Deano took full advantage, softened him up badly with the first one and took him out with the second. good stoppage unprotested.

someone mentioned the weight- deano definitely looked a halfstone heavier, to me, than the last time i saw him a year or so back. doesn't look like he is training quite as hard nowadays but i could be wrong.

sadly I missed the Masters fight between Doody and Gordon as with a huge card i basically forgot it was going to be happening

Dean Hickman, interestingly, laughs off the prospect of dean being british light welterweight champ- which is a prospect not even mentioned in the original article which explicitly says Harrison will be going up to 147

my comment to dean hickman would be, whilst we're on the subject of stepping up, at least Harrison didn't get KTFO by gary Reid, eh, Hickman, eh? if we're talking levels harrison clearly trumps hickman any day of any week and twice on sundays.

Marcus Portman, also former First Team promoted fighter, has a little dig too. 'his only talent being the talent to get knocked out'- at least he doesn't fight so negative that he makes Andrew Facey look like Manny Pacquiao, eh marcus? eh?

personally i agree that Harrison is a midlands- english level fighter, similar level to portman i guess and at least one up on Hickman. who if i was being catty i would say neither of them hold a punch any better than my granny.

Just watched the fight again. Fair play to Harrison, it was one hell of a shot and Lawler never saw it coming but he'll be disappointed that he left himself so wide open. Good decision by Terry O'Connor to stop it when he did. Still not sure how much further Harrison can go though ?

me neither mate, i think he'll always fall that bit short when he steps up to british level

but like a couple of other lcoal favourites, Martin Gethin and Darren McDermott, I think he can do well campaigning around midlands- english level

Didn't manage to get to the show but managed to watch part of it on the net Sunday and watched the rest Wednesday.

Good win for Deano, was nice to see, and he seemed really chuffed. Cracking shot aswell.

Agree reckon his level is Area/English title but who knows under a new trainer, hopefully he can get his chance, be nice to see him win the English belt even, thats still a massive achievement imo. Definitely seems to sell less tickets these days.

Still not totally sold on Al Harbi, seen him a few times and imo he hasn't really overly impressed, maybe expecting more because of the praise/hype thats come his way.

Was impressed with the variation of Ghent's work, really enjoy watching him box and he's improving each time, doesn't look like much of a banger though your right.

Anyway its exciting for the area/local boxers that the Hatton's are doing 3 more of these PPV's at the Civic this year too, good stuff.
