Ward out of super 6
Ward out of super 6
cant post the link as on from my phone but livefight is reporting ward out with knee injury.
great idea to start with but injurys / brutal knockouts aways have a chance of messing it up.
one less belt for the winner to take now id presume.

Re: Ward out of super 6
He's hasn't pulled out of the tournament yet, he's just cancelled his fight with Green because of injury. However, there are rumours that Dan Goossen wants to pull him from the tournament completely and there are problems within the camp.
Re: Ward out of super 6
The S6 was always going to be tough to hold together. First Taylor, then Dirrell postponement and now Ward. Reading the link above it seems more than just a knee injury.
Are American TV viewers really going to tune in and want to watch two Europeans next month?

Re: Ward out of super 6
Im gutted if this is true as I picked him to win it..
Re: Ward out of super 6
if its true, does that open the door for lucian bute? Or will they go for another option
Re: Ward out of super 6
I didnt think taylor should of been in with it to start with considering his stamina issues and think he peeked when beating bhop.
if a stand in was to win it without being in each fight i think will bring the prestige of the tournament down.
I fancy AA to be too tough for the rest, just hope direll doesnt get the nod by hit and running.

Re: Ward out of super 6
With Green starting late and now without a fig, if Direll loses to AA then the US interest will wane like a swine.
Re: Ward out of super 6
I'm pretty sure Ward signed up for peanuts and now he's got a high profile win and a title, he will look for the exit immediately.
Apparently Dibella took calls over two weeks ago saying 'dont book flights or hotels - as they are gonna pull out of the 24th and maybe the entire tournament'.
All they gotta do is sit it out under an 'injury' and then they will be released from the show and a replacement drafted in to replace them.
Funny how Pavlik said he was gonna fight at super middleweight after the Martinez fight, starting this summer

i thought it was just delayed
Re: Ward out of super 6
Always thought this tournament was over ambitious using a 'league' style set up for the 1st rounds.
Should have just had it as a straight knock out like Prizefighter but over the space of 6-12 months.
Can see it becoming a bit de-valued now. :x

i wouldnt mind bika being in it he would be tough for anyone in the tournament i recon they would want an american to replace him thoughsg1985 wrote:Bute has a fight on, that would leave at least 3 months till they could then finish the second round of fights. And how much would he want to jump in this tournament midway through? Re: Ward out of super 6
they may get someone to move up as theres quite a few very good american prospects at middleweight and even if they lost it would do them no harm as they would be fighting world class oppoanants at a higher weightsg1985 wrote:I would think that too, Jesse Brinkley is the next highest ranked American according to Boxrec.Adamj1987 wrote:i wouldnt mind bika being in it he would be tough for anyone in the tournament i recon they would want an american to replace him thoughsg1985 wrote: Bute has a fight on, that would leave at least 3 months till they could then finish the second round of fights. could alwaysb include mundine
Re: Ward out of super 6
If Goossen pulls Ward out, that's a bitch move. Ward should make sure that doesn't happen, because he'll lose a lot of credibility otherwise. He'll just look like another fighter who wants to make millions of dollars by handpicking opponants. He signed up so he should fulfill his obligations. I tend to think he will, but who knows.

Re: Ward out of super 6
Yeah but why enter him in the first place then... plus he's beat the favourite hands down. I just hope it's an injury-related withdrawal otherwise it sucks and from what I've seen Ward's an intelligent individual whose very confident in his ability.sg1985 wrote:Jermaine Taylor I can understand, but the only reason Goosen doesn't want him in it any longer is because he has a valuable product now, and whilst in the tournament there is a strong possibility he'll lose the title, and the 0, and many millions they would bring.
He should see Super 6 through to the end after he's recovered. Hope he's not just going to be another American stay-at-home champion.
Re: Ward out of super 6
I agree with all of that, except the conclusion. I read the thread and virtually ended up weeping with frustration at the way boxing continually manages to shoot itself in the foot time and time again.ArtOfWar wrote:If Goossen pulls Ward out, that's a bitch move. OK, I'm drawing conclusions prematurely, but Gomez's words sound like they contain a bit of 'inside track' knowledge.

I'd tell you everything I know if I knew anymore that's being reported but i dont im afraid.Deserter wrote: I agree with all of that, except the conclusion. But it's not quantum physics to work out that the belt-holders (Froch & Kessler) and big named former belt holders (Abraham & Taylor) have probably cut themselves a better deal than the Andre's who were basically prospects.
I believed they were offered this chance to give them exposure, a crack at the titles and some guaranteed payday's well above what they were supposed to be earning beforehand.
Now suddenly it's took off for Ward and they have probably weighed up a fight with Green and Dirrell afterwards is not the best move either career-wise or financially.
Green is an unknown quanity; a tricky customer. Also Ward knows Dirrell could beat him - or he could wreck Dirrell's career with another defeat and they are close friends.
Both purses added together could be far less than a fight with say Pavlik in the summer, he could try unify with Stieglitz WBO belt or even Paul Williams may fancy it. Let alone the Bute and other names in the frame.
I hope my reasoning is wrong, because it will blow the show if he goes as some people think he's now the favourite and the rest are just making up numbers.
Re: Ward out of super 6
If ward is out of the tournament then thats really the end of it. Does a fighter come in with a "free" win...... and it means nothing. Ward is now the man at Super Middle. Well he is not, but whoever wanted to be MUST beat him now.
Injuries cannot be helped, but its a joke if the tournament continues with the same hype.

I really thought Ward was going to win this, he looked brilliant vs Kessler. It would be a shame if he had to pull out but a good chance for them to put Bute in

I think the fact Bute is a HBO fighter would throw the cat among the pigeons on that front.alexpaterson wrote:I really thought Ward was going to win this, he looked brilliant vs Kessler. It would be a shame if he had to pull out but a good chance for them to put Bute in
As for the chances of Bute vs Ward if Ward does indeed pull out of the super 6 altogether? Well, I think I have heard that Ward will refuse to fight abroad because of the risk of poor decisions, and as for Bute? Well just take a look at where all his fights in recent years have taken place. I'v grown tired of the Bute facade. Since he won the title all kinds of names have been bandied about, his fans have gone on about Pavlik, Kessler and the like and who has he actually fought? Answer: His mandatories and poor voluntaries.
His next fight is against Edison Miranda, would you back Miranda to beat any of the Super 6?

Hopefully they can overcome that for the greater good!

If Ward is out the tourney is seriously devalued. If he was in it the winner could claim to be number1, but not now
Having a league tha would tie the fighters up for 2-3years was never going to work. If it was a knock out it could have been done and dusted in 12-18months, what a cock up

If he is out and Bute goes in we are in the same position, one of the best SMW out of it and left out in the cold.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:If Ward is out the tourney is seriously devalued. If he was in it the winner could claim to be number1, but not now

Re: Ward out of super 6
would have put some coin on Ward winning the whole thing before it started then realised it lasts about 5 years & knew it would go tits up
so much can happen in 12 months in boxing terms it was never going to work...wouldnt be surpised if it got scrapped altogether
