The purse fee is filed with the board when the match is being made. This in turn effects the figure on the bond which the promoter must lodge with the board. The board have all the fee's and purse amounts etc and will hold on to the bond until everyone is paid correctly. If a boxer travels with a accountant or manager they will normally deal with the promoter and collect the fees etc, if this is the case the boxer will sign his paperwork and thats the end of if from a British point of view if the manager/trainer/accountant withholds fees then they need to address that situation between each other.

On a side note our home fighers get £50 a round purse fee's on home shows, just cant pay the big money on a small hall show, especially when you are paying purse fees, flights, and accom for opponents. BTW all our small hall shows run at a £1K loss anyway even with small purses and some boxers even decline a purse fee just to get the fights.

HAS ANYONE ELSE COME ACROSS THIS HAPPENING?
This happens a bit in Australia, on one show that I recall, the home fighters didn't get a purse per se, had to pick and pay for their own opponents, including air fairs, accommodation etc. but got to keep 100% of the money of the tickets they sold themselves, out of their own hands.

The purse fee isnt lodged with the board only if its a title fight You put the purses you paid to the boxers after the show to the board Dont know which boxers you deal with that travel with an accountant laugh ~But in the real world of boxing they come with there manager and trainer I have never in 18 years in the boxing world known a boxer come with an accountant laugh May be the big names do but i,m talking small hall shows here
Can you name the boxers that box for no money ???????????? would like to offer them some work
What us small promoters try and do is help each other and not over charge for opponents but we are all fair and pay the boxers whether it be on ticket deals or small purses We all know who the good and bad are
Id love to hear from a small hall promoter that has had a accountant travel with the boxer though PMSL

But your right if the manager trainer accountant (laugh) agent matchmaker and whoever else wants a cut is holding money the boxer needs to be told what the purse is before all these people take there cut
As far i,m aware when i pay a boxer he pays his manager and trainer that it So long as the boxer knows what the promoter is paying and he gives his cut to whoever and the boxer is happy to do this then fine
So long as the fighter knows what he is being paid it up to him if he wants to pay anyone other than the manager and the trainer

Glad you had a laugh Jane, but I was quoting the accountant as a general term for " the money man" so to speak be it match maker, trainer, manager, or the boxer if they travel alone. Although I'm 99% sure that I have read somewhere in documents a reference to a boxers accountant being listed as permited some sort of rights at a fight or something.

You are probably correct about purse fee's not being known by the board for British vs British boxer but give me a break please lol I have only worked on 3 small hall shows and everytime the opponent has been foriegn therefore I complete the engagement of forgien boxer forms and it asks for the purse fees. I had made an assumption that the same type of form would be completed for all fights. Can I ask you though, if the board do not know the purse fee's for bouts on the show how do they set the bond value?

If you want a list of boxers that foght for free check your PM's.

At least you made me laugh Normally on small shows the bond is around 5 to 10 grand The board know when you submit the bill If you were using British champions say or bigger named boxer The bond would be a lot higher as The board know the bigger names dont box for £800 to £1000
On a British v British small show You just give the board the names of whos boxing Then after the show You give them what everyone was paid Its a bit different on the big shows hence the higher bond
Ill check my inbox now and give some on the fighters a call

Why not use local opponents?

I'm not targetting you directly, of course.

But these days on a lot of bills with all the foreign fly ins- they can't be cheap. Boring one sided fights result. Whats the point?

Surely as well if TWO local fighters are boxing each other, both will sell tickets? Or what am I missing here?

No local fighters in the same weights really, Northern Ireland based Team. Even Irish boxers tend to require Accom and travel costs.

Good point tho Whicker, more local fights - when they can be made - would shift more tickets overall and both fighters would probably have more to fight for than some Latvian no-mark who picked up 6 wins in one day at a gym somewhere.

I know there are certain people on here who think that only the 'insiders' should be allowed to comment on how this sport is run, but fcuk it, what I want to know is why the promotors etc think that it is so important people win that they put on 90-10 or 80-20 fights rather than good fights... A lot of the real legends of the sport have had losses, thats what made them great...

Saying that, I can recall a lot of good competitive fights on undercards, but they should all be like that, there isn't an excuse. More local lads fighting eachother (how hard can it be to find two more-than-5-less-than-10-fight Heavies in London?) sells more tickets than the above mentioned eejits.

Saying that I genuinely did not realise that some of the fighters routinely fight for such small sums. It leads me to two conclusions - I am more grateful to them that they still turn up to make good fights we can enjoy - and secondly that there is no way I would do it myself.

Well thats the argument put forward by US fight fans trying to explain why they haven't had a great Heavyweight since Holyfield.

Imagine a prime Tyson fighting today? Would earn double what Beckham and Tiger Woods earn a year combined.

The Heavyweight Championship is still potentially the richest prize in sport.
If the prime Tyson was around today, his earnings, sponsorships, etc, etc, would be off the wall! Remember, back in the day, Tyson did commercials for Budweiser, Japanese beer, Nintendo, LAPD, NYPD, Pepsi, etc. He was a massive commodity!

If I remember rightly, in 1996, he was the highest paid sportsman, earning something in the region of $100,000,000 or near that figure anyway. That was just his earning's & does not take into consideration any other deals!
Exactly. Thats why the argument that all of todays great US Heavyweights chase the dollar in the NBA and NFL is a non-starter.

No one would make more money in the sporting world than a truly great, charismatic Heavyweight Champion.

Imagine how much a prime Ali would earn a year!
The trick, yiddo, is to look at the spread of the money... the lowest paid NBA or NFL player will be on much more than the lowest paid boxer, the average career earnings of these people outstrip all but the highest paid boxers... same with football over here.

trouble is that pro gyms are quite spaced apart, therefore, local fighters tend to be mates and train in the same gym under the same trainer... the trainer is then reluctant to put his boys in together, they are generally mates who spar together !!

Mathews its a lot easier said than done i have made local fights between good lads on my shows and with the amount of mates, brothers, dads, trainers who think they are managers and are promoting you wouldnt believe.

They go on the net check out the guy you matched them and think this is no good and demand easier fights if you dont give them the fights that their entourage beleive is best for them then they either pull out or in some instances leave the gym.

Also if you actualy get the fighter to take the fight and they draw or maybe god forbid lose  off they go next fight to where they think they will "get matched properly"

It realy isnt as easy as taking two local fighters of simeler abilty and letting them fight,i wish it was
