ZDF jumps to round 8

Saying Erdei got a small lead, I guess we have to wait to see it on Eurosport.

Round 8
Same pattern as the first 2 rounds, Garay just landing a bit more.
Fight is messy

and then they jump to round 11.....

Garay won what we saw of round 8.
Erdei won what we saw on round 11

Round 12
Garay still punching alot without landing.

Of what we have seen its like their first fight.

Close round for Garay

~ Referee: Luis Pabón | Judge: Lynn Carter 110-118 | Judge: Mike Glienna 116-112 | Judge: Joachim Jacobsen 115-113 ~

Commentator claims that the two first cards are jokes, guess we have to wait for the eurosport coverage to see for ourselves.

What an excellent fight was Tiozzo/Michaelczewski!

The Frenchman came out like a million dollars ( 950,000 Euros ), barely missed with a punch, so very sharp. Dariuz was marked up within a couple of minutes - Tiozzo just couldn't miss!
Same again in the 2nd, but by the 3rd, I have to admit, the incredible chin that Michaelczewski showed made me think he might eventualy get on top: he landed some great shots, and I thought he hurt the Frenchman a couple of times.
But Tiozzo turned it on in fine style over the last two rounds - crashing home big punches - the final right hand was right on the temple and Dariuz was finished.

Great little fight, and made up for the crap we had to watch in the UK last night.

Hope Tiozzo gets himself a few more decent paydays - he reallly walked the walk tonight.

I want ZDF  Any reports on Sidorenko-Zarate? I don't think Erdei is going anywhere after a second struggle with Garay...DM should retire :TU: Tiozzo says he wants to fight Roy Jones next according to BBC text.

They showed a couple of mins from the fight. Sidorenko broke Zarate's nose in the 2nd round. From what we saw Sidorenko controlled the fight.

Talking of Light-Heavyweights, apparently former 175lbs King Virgil Hill is planning on fighting on after recovering from an operation on his knee.

They show undercard fights, mostly Spotlight and seem slike they are starting to do Universum also, live and its free. They have an english version of their site and their commentator speaks both german and english. You can also rewatch their old cards on the site.

maybe they will fight each other now?
Maybe they could fight now. they got nothing to lose now. No titles, no spotless records, not even the feeling of invincibility. Dariusz is our for 6 months at least and I heard that Roy Jones JR is thinking of a comeback. Who knows. Maybe the fight can be made, but with Dariusz stiff and slow as molasses and with RJJs chin proven glassy and his reflexes and speed slowed to average levels, what would be the point?

Roy shoul lose this one by ko late or else a big point decision by Dariusz. The point is the fight right now would not settle the argument of who was the real 175lb king. They should have fought 3-4 years ago for this fight to mean anything.

They wouldnt even get good money for it nowadays with them losing so many fightls lately. Would I pay to see it? You bet. But I regret it wasnt made a few years earlier.

Erdei only looks like crap vs Garay. He will rule the division in the near future. RJJ and DM shouldn´t fight vs nobody. they should take care of their health.

Yeah but in fairness Garay is probably the best guy he has fought so far apart from perhaps Gonzalez who's style was made for him so will he be able to cope with the big boys? Tarver, Johnson, Briggs etc only time will tell of course, i agree with your last point though.

On a funny note, Roy was asked his opinion of Erdey just before the rematch with Tarver. He said who is Erdey.
Its funny how new talent is being underestimated.

I disagree that Darius and Roy could not fight anybody today. Ok, there are 4-5 guys at 175 who would beat them, but they could hang on with most of the other top 20 and still make money.

But money is not what they are after, so if these two old lions decide to come back, they will risk big for one more chance to be champ and probably lose by ko again. It is hard to give up on boxing, when you were champ for a long time.

Just look at great warrior Holyfield. He was great. Real great. But the old lion just does not know when to stop. I hope we wont have another tragedy like with Ali if this warrior keeps fighting. That fight with Larry Donald should have given him the hint that its time to hang them up.

Why would Roy have heard of him though, he's not big news in the states. A lot of professional fighters don't pore through boxrec like we all do.

Perhaps because Erdei was WBO Champion?
I dont know but that might have a reason to hear of him? Who knows, you may be right, top 10 people are totally ignored by champions; its not like they could be potential opponents or anything. Right? :TU:

Also because the Federations put out their own ratings once a month and all members are notified, so relaince on the bogus and ridiculos boxrec ratings can be ignored without missing a beat on who is who in boxing.

Nah, I think that Roy pretended he doesnt know Erdei because he knew he would lose against him for sure and wanted to play the ignorance defence. Arrogant, yes; but very safe.

And for
he's not big news in the states
, you must be an American. I heard rumors that far, far away from the Galaxy of United States, there are some small islands were about 6.2 billion of peculiar creatures roam about called non-Americans. Rumor has it some of them might even know how to box. Nah, couldnt be true. Must be just rumors. :TU: There is no such thing as a non-American.

Err actually I'm English. The WBO isn't held in the highest of regard by a lot of champions, and the WBO champions are often the least recognisable. Just because you hold a belt doesn't mean your well recognised. How many WBO champs do you reckon would be well known to American fighters?

Also why would Roy be thinking about potential opponents seeing as he's unlikely to fight again?

James, regarding light heavy the WBO-belt was of course more worth than e.g. the IBF-belt. and actually it wil be the same. Hoye or Woods are a farce of a champion.

the best cruiser holds the WBO-belt.

since the Klitschkos held the WBO-belt it was more prestigious than the ones Lennox didn´t hold.

Joe Calzaghe is actually regarded as the best super middle.

Times have changed, James.

James, the remark was made before the Tarver rematch. Roy was still considered the top lt-hv then. He thought himself as the best amd definitely he didnt think of retirement at the time. He was in fact calling out the Klits and Tyson. :D Definitely Roy was very much into boxing then. Retirement was not in his mind and most people picked him to ko Tarver easily.
If Lewis would have said (when he held the WBC best) he doesnt know who Wlad is, would have been a lie. He know full well. So did Roy.

Also Roy had about a dozen belts far more worthless than WBO at the time.

I heard that Roy is even now thinking of a come back. Perhaps he can win some belt, but his blinding speed is gone. He is rich enough not to need this anymore. But I would still buy any of his fights. He was one of the best lt-hv of all time. But his best days are long gone. When you lose by ko 2 fights in a row, the time for retirement has come.

I cannot believe I have read some of the ridiculous opinions that I have today! None of the belts today are worth shit, except perhaps the Ring Magazine belt, which itself is not entirely correct because it lists Vitali as champ, which he cannot be until he defeats Byrd! As to a belts worth prior to today's standards it went like this!

WBA was regarded as the first organization that branched and awarded the belt to the actaul lineal champions in I think 1962. The WBC came along some time in the late 60s, or early 70s and with it two champions. The IBF came around 1984 and was the last organization to hold 15 round title bouts after the WBA and WBC had dropped to 12 rounds. The WBO came around 1988, or 1989 and has always been regarded as the forth class of title and then the title explosion of the 1990s, WBU, IBA, IBC, WBB, WBF and so on, so being a title holder nowadays doesn't mean shit when there are 10 fighters that call themselves champion of a division! Times have changed, and certainly for the worse in boxing!
